South Yemen was more developed, Sunni but less populated aligned with the Soviets. Puntland just wants autonomy, not full independence. Somaliland (the former British colonial territory) does want independence and has some backing from Ethiopia.
You should take a look at north east india & Myanmar. A lot of ethnics are gaining momentum for independence over there. Like Nagaland, Mizoram, Arakan, Kachin, Chin, Kayin people.
In order to achieve independence, the population must support themselves and be the majority; the native population is a tiny minority so it will never happen. In addition, they lack cultural backbone and language. Vive le France.

There’s no way that Rojova wil get independence even though they should, the second one part of Kurdistan breaks away others will try to do the same. That’s what Iraq, Turkey, Iran all fear.
Kurds are like Poles in a way. We were partitioned and stateless for a long time, just like the Kurds. My nation took on the pressure of Russification and Germanization simaltenously. There were failed uprisings but Polish national identity survived. Kurds will get freedom as well in the future.
@@polishstick0609 idk about that, the kurds never had a state since there was no need for it. recently it's come into play because of the napoleonic/liberal ideals of nationalism and such arriving to the middle east post colonization.
So, I know it's just a technicality but the Ethiopian constitution actuallt states that any of its federal regiojs can secede. Through a due process of referendum and time. Knowing that I'd say Tigray should try this, but I don't really know if Ethiopia would respect their choice
That article in the consititution was drafted mainly by TPLF that was ruling the country and Tigray until recently. They had a far better chance to do so in the early 90s same as Eritrea but they decided not to for various reasons, some being: landlocked and entirely surrounded by unfriendly nations, resource limitations namely not enough arable land (especially now that what they call "Western Tigray" is being administered by the Amhara regional government), border disputes with the Amhara and Afar regions in Ethiopia as well as Eritrea and more importantly a seccsionist movement has not been very popular (now might be more than not fresh off the war).
In the longer term, we are now looking at the probability of consolidation. Three huge empires: a Chinese one comprising Asia and (possibly) Australasia; a Russian one comprising the old USSR plus most or all of Europe; and an American one comprising the Americas and, maybe, for linguistic reasons, the UK and/or Australasia...the wild cards are Africa and (what will be the last really large more-or-less democracy) India, which I could perhaps see uniting as a fourth empire (and it would be the most democratic of the four). Sounds dystopian. And it is. But that is where we're headed in the next half century, unless quite a few things change dramatically.
Brasil has very close ties to Russia and China due to BRICS+ so falling under an actual American Empire sounds pretty unlikely to me (Brasil already suffers the consequences of American and European imperialism though, but its tight connections with USA's rivals is helping Brazil out of that a little)

Couple things about west papua - though my words should be taken with many grains of salt The bird's head peninsula in the north has always been it's own separate province, even west Papua was just Irian Jaya and is usually not included within the west papua indipendance movement. And as I have mentioned, only recently was papua separated into 6 provinces, it was previously one province called Irian Jaya, however it's separation has highlighted that the desire for independence varies regionally, so an independent state would, most likely, not be the entirety of west papua. It's also worth mentioning that the intentions of the new provinces are for being able to better aleviate the problems faced by papuans, however I am no authority on wether or not that may actually come to fruition. Terima kasih
From Scotland here (which may also be independent one day, though who knows when). I'm interested in the DNA test though also skeptical of it. The family tree research my mum has done on both sides of my family all are either Scottish or Irish or other Celtic routes in the British Isles. But we keep thinking there must be some Italian in there somewhere because both me and my mum have been thought of as italian, as well as my mum's dad when he was around. I also seem to take a tan better than would be expected from a white celt haha, and seem to have a different temperature tolerance too.
Are you from lowland or highland? If you're from the lowland, how come do people there use a language that's highly identical to people from Berwick-upon-Tweed, Sunderland, and Cumbria?
This is a great video. I liked it a lot. You have a definite Roman nose. The Italian in your heritage doesn't surprise me. Neither does your relatively small percentage of North Afircan heritage. The Moors inhabited the Iberian peninsula for a very long time, after all. Your northern European ancestary did surprise me. I just don't see it. You also have a cool accent.
I know you do not have bad intentions but in 8:32 you are using a picture depicting "Abdullah Öcalan" - recognized as a terrorist group called PKK internationally even in EU. You are mentioning "self-defense" but these groups have burnt villages and even killed babies of their own ethnicity in Turkey. I invite you to do your research deeper and be more mindful about this issue.
south yemen wants the indepenence not the north houthi troops are busy attacking ships in red sea using Hodeidah port by the way this port It was close to being controlled by government forces but the United Nations and the United States stopped it in 2018.
I am Dutch, but my father was born in the 60s in Dutch New Guinea. I am not pro-Papua or anything like that. What I do know is that Sukarno hated the Dutch so much, that he also wanted to incorporate Dutch New Guinea into Indonesia. The Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) and Dutch New Guinea (Papua) were two different administrative entities. But Sukarno wanted all the areas that the Dutch had colonized and to continue this under the Republic of Indonesia. But how come my family is from Dutch New Guinea? That is because my family is mixed race and my other family is Moluccan. After the independence of Indonesia my family was banished and Dutch New Guinea was to become the new country for the Indos (mixed race), Chinese, Moluccans and others. Because the Dutch government did not want to transfer us to the Netherlands. It must also be said that not all regions in the Indonesian archipelago wanted to belong to the Republic of Indonesia, such as the Moluccas and Aceh. Anyway, eventually Dutch New Guinea was transferred to Indonesia under false pretenses and my family migrated to the Netherlands. Between 1950 and 1963 about 350,000 people migrated from the Indonesian archipelago to the Netherlands. Currently there are 2 million people with an Indonesian background living in the Netherlands. But if I may give an opinion about West Papua, it is that ethnically, linguistically and culturally it does not belong to Indonesia. But it is part of Indonesia now, so I hope that the Indonesian government can make Papua prosperous in the future.
Lol there are 1300 ethnicities and 700 native languages here, so who you really count as belong to "Indonesia"? 😂 Indonesia is just a national identity not some ethnobased identity like you have in Nation state Europe
As someone who lives in Indonesia, it is quite the controversial topic. Whenever we talk about it, it can be difficult or even scary. As there are lots of problems in that island, ranging from prices to even human rights. Recently a large chunk of the trees will be chopped down for palm oil productions, which angered the locals as they have a connection to the forest. A lot of Indonesians oppose the idea of it gaining independence, however there are a few people who began to recognize the issue and start to think differently than what the gov intend to. This situation is honestly quite messy; I discussed this with a friend not too long ago, they're also torn about this. The independence organization committed several atrocity but also the people in charge are just as corrupt and atrocious. If you ever wondered, was there a point in time where Papua would never be part of Indonesia? There was. The first Vice President of Indonesia, Muhammad Hatta, opposed the idea of incorporating them as part of the republic. As he believed that they're ethnically, linguistically and culturally different than most other ethnic group here. But the rest didn't agree with him as they want to unite the entire Dutch East Indies to be succeeded as Indonesia. I wish I could talk about this more honestly, it's an anxious convoluted problem in the back of my head. Anyways, thank you for stating your opinion :)
Yes. Thank you for your last words. If West Papua isn't as prosperous as it should be. I, as an Indonesian, am not hesitant to demand our central government to let go of West Papua.
@@hanggaraaryagunarencagutuh7072 Im glad to know that im not the only indo here to be open of it's secession. You should take a look at north east india & Myanmar. A lot of ethnics are gaining momentum for independence over there. Like Nagaland, Mizoram, Arakan, Kachin, Chin, Kayin people.
I don't know about Myanmar and as a Indian from Nagaland, it's not like that more then 90 %population still with union of India. .
How about the Bektashi Order, that country proposed by Albania at the UN!
He already made a video covering it
I made a dedicated video about them a couple weeks ago!
How bout a vid about anarchist territories throughout history :).

you forgot about French Guiana proposed to be independence from France to be called republic of Amazonia
In order to achieve independence, the population must support themselves and be the majority; the native population is a tiny minority so it will never happen. In addition, they lack cultural backbone and language. Vive le France.
I think Puerto Rico had proposed to become independent from United States too, but I wouldn’t know what their full name would be called.
If French Guiana becomes its own country in the future, then their nationality would be Amazonian with their full name being Republic of Amazonia! At that point, South America would have a total of 13 countries!! 🙂

As a Syrian, Rojava has been renamed to AANES (Autonomous Administration of Northeast Syria), as they in no way want to secede from Syria. They want autonomy for the Kurds from the regime
Rojava sounds better
@@Lockfly I guess so, but AANES emphasizes its commitment to autonomy
only for the kurds or like, can anyone go there? (like iraqi kurdistan)
sounds good, i hope syria become a stable country.
@@Darkest_matter there's some restriction on movement between regime and AANES areas, but in general anyone can go there. Plus the area is probably majority Arab so...
There’s no way that Rojova wil get independence even though they should, the second one part of Kurdistan breaks away others will try to do the same.
That’s what
Iraq, Turkey, Iran all fear.
True, it might encourage Kurds around them to do the same.
They already are independent.
It's just a matter of recognition.
@@Mr-DNA_ AANES have already said multiple times they don't want independence but a reformed syria under democratic confederalism

Brasil has very close ties to Russia and China due to BRICS+ so falling under an actual American Empire sounds pretty unlikely to me (Brasil already suffers the consequences of American and European imperialism though, but its tight connections with USA's rivals is helping Brazil out of that a little)
Hello, can you please do a video on Pashtunistan, for the Pashtuns/Afghans in north-west pakistan. It's been going on since the creation of Pakistan, and is really really interesting

Your ancestry results just make perfect sense. Meanwhile I’m about 100% Eastern European on ancestry and everyone thinks I’m German
I wasn't very surprised, yeah! Although the 30% Northern European was larger than I had thought.
@ that is interesting indeed. That’s like one grandparent being Northern. If I were to guess you probably have all 4 grandparents had an ancestor from there that brought up the percentage.
They change as more people from your area take them. Mine used to be all over the place, but now are just 99.6% Portuguese, which is what they should always have been.
East European ancestry? Not precise enough. I have Polish ancestry mostly
@@polishstick0609 i said Eastern European bc my mom got small percentage of Russian and Baltic. The majority was specific and made sense but I just said Eastern European to represent the whole.
Suggestions for a Part 2. I don't necessarily thing the following will actually become sovereign nations in the coming year, but I feel that they are worth at least mentioning.
1. Bougainville (I know you've talked about it before, but since this is the most likely one in the entire world right now, it is definately worth mentioning in this topic.)
2. French Polynesia (interesting because the major thing that is the issue with them gaining independence is simply the fact that the government of the islands is taking it's time for it).
3. Ambazonia and Biafra
4. Greenland and the Faroe Islands
5. Republika Srpska and Vojvodina
6. Barotseland
7. Székely Land
I also highly suggest that since you are Portuegese, discuss the independence movements in the Azores, Madeira, and any other ones that exist in your country that most people probably aren't aware of.
***I'd also mention the special situations with Somaliland, Transniestra, Catalonia, and the push for a full declaration of independence in Taiwan.
I'd also mention the specific back and forth circumstances for Scotland (or as I like to call it this regard, "Old Caledonia"), New Caledonia, Puerto Rico, and the Murrawarri Republic (Australia), French Guiana, the Canary Islands,
Other areas to note: Khalistan, Palestine, Republics in Russia, status of Northern Ireland, the East African Federation, East Turkestan, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Hawar Islands (Bahrain), Balochistan
^There was supposed to be an independence referendum in the Chuuk Islands in Micronesia in the 2020's, but any updated information about it was difficult to find (at least the last time I checked).

Papua New Guinea and Bougainville are finalizing the process for Bougainville Independence. It will be a country soon
Autonomous Region Of Bougainville in the Pacific is getting independence in 2027. Funny how you mentioned new Caledonia that had a failed referendum but did not mentioned Bougainville which 99.8 percent voted for independence.
How about adding the Republic of New England to the list

Couple things about west papua - though my words should be taken with many grains of salt
The bird's head peninsula in the north has always been it's own separate province, even west Papua was just Irian Jaya and is usually not included within the west papua indipendance movement.

But it is part of Indonesia now, so I hope that the Indonesian government can make Papua prosperous in the future.
if every ethnicities in indonesia become independent, there would be more than 700 of them.
I believe they have the right to govern themselves and make use of resources from their own land. I've seen a couple footages of how they're not treated right by the central govt. I wish i can discuss this with more indonesians, it can be overwhelming or even scary to talk or even ask about this
