***** Pretty well yeah :). Hoping to take some blacksmithing lessons soon. All of my learning is self taught, so a basic review will hopefully fill in some gaps :). How have you been?
If that ball peen hammer is a regular hardened hammer then you did a dangerous no no move, never strike one hammer on another hammer, they can chip/explode and send sharp fragments flying with very high speed
Hay Man I'm a beginner blacksmith, how do you keep your material hot for so long I use the same material and process in this video but when I take it out the forge (bright yellow hot) I only get about 5 to 8 seconds before it's black and unworkable takes me about 2 hours to do 1 bottle opener (I use a 72lb London pattern anvil with coal forge) thank you and I appreciate your videos.
this is such a common thing i get asked and its so hard to explain through words alone. i dont know your circumstances such as air temp, how long your piece is in the fire etc. can you film your process at all? if you can send me a vid on instagram or facebook i can maybe help you out. im on facebook as Nath Oo and on instagram as nathan.baker.creator
Awesome. Thanks for posting. Do you have any recommendations on how to get started blacksmithing? Maybe a good book for a beginner? Small scale stuff like this is appealing. I've seen one guy use an old brake drum, laying inverted, with a blower coming up through the middle, to act as a forge.
A great "starter book" is 'The Edge of the Anvil'. It is in a 2nd edition (maybe even later) and shows very clearly the general basics to start smithing.
Hi Nathan,, cant find your new channel,, I keyed in (a blacksmith's tale Nathan baker the artist) idea..you can put the channel in your own favorites if that helps.. Peace bro.
How hot are you trying to open it at? I'd highly recommend doing that stage at a yellow heat if it goes orange put it back in the forge and take another heat. You may have wrought iron shoes if it is splitting at high temps. One thing to watch on the videos I make is what I do at what heat. I'm going to be making a video on this next as nobody ever talks about it. But it's THE most important part of the craft.
If there's one thing the world needs, it's more bottle openers... However, that one is super cool.
Mike Jones Knife & Tool Cheers man, its just a simple design that works
So satisfying to watch the speed of progress.
Great Video! Great Job!
Awesome work!
I always love your videos. Great job!
sharpshooterjd Cheers dude, hope your getting on well

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Useful!
Nice.
The bottle opener: Most important tool in the shop :D
It certainly is! Saves the teeth anyway!
Yup. For medicinal purposes of course.
@@workingwithiron and lighters too:)
genius! never thought about using a ball peen hammer as a ball end punch
If you do then anneal it first, or at least heat the stroked end to remove the hardness, or it can shatter
@@workingwithiron thanks, to be safe ill just use a wooden hammer
Good work.
sibco96 Thank you

What size tools are you using and material?
20x6mm flat. Punch is around 16mm X 5mm . If you use inches you may have to convert that 😉 hope this helps.
@@workingwithiron thanks buddy! I'm using a horse show but I can't expand the circle without a side cracking open

It's so quiet! Very cool though.
***** Working on the sound, didnt realise it recorded so quietly at the time but have noted it for the future.
Sick size???
20x6mm

The things a man will do for a cold beer
Zo, nu eerst een Bavaria!
That Olmsted looked like claymation. The grainy and out of focus quality caused by me not wearing my glasses.
stizan24 Haha brilliant!
Great Video! Great Job!
