My Mercari sales completely tanked when they did this! Even when I put in free shipping it still didn't help. In my opinion I kind of hope they don't do it.
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens. I’m intrigued to see the results from the uk in 3-6 months. It sounds like they had good results when they did this in the clothing category.
I love the idea of no seller fees, but having buyers pay an additional fee with purchases will not go over well. I think it would just give buyers ANOTHER reason (like having to pay A LOT more for shipping) to buy things on Amazon.
@@FlippingandPunching Look at what happened with Mercari. I don't sell on that platform, but I know a lot of people who do/did. I would rather these selling platforms just reduce their seller fees instead of gouging our eyes out. It's bad enough that shipping prices are pushing buyers away. Adding additional fees definitely won't help. Just my opinion. 😉
This is exactly what happened when Mercari introduced zero selling fees, the fees go onto the buyer. Mercari sales already weren't my main selling platform vs eBay. I still get plenty of higher dollar purchases on Mercari even with the fees. I also have bought several items on Mercari even as a seller it doesn't bother me too much but it also creates more negotiating room because the seller doesn't have to think about the fees.
Ultimately, that would give the sellers less fees which would make them happy. The buyer would pay a slightly higher price. It wouldn't be such a dramatic shift. I would be ok with that. I would love lower selling fees, lol.
I just lost my dog on Thursday. He was fine on Sunday. Monday he lost control of his back legs, Tuesday he was about the same. And On Wednesday he couldnt move anything but his neck. We took him to the vet on Thursday. His blood came back he just had enlarged prostate. And his disc in his back started to fuse today. But didnt explain the lost of movements. They gave him so meds and Told me if he gets worse to bring him back. But he passed over night. It was sad. We think it was his flea medication. It happened a day or so after we gave it to him. And if you read the side effects of flea medication this is know side effects in some dogs.

I'm not sure I see this coming to the US. I think the other countries got it because finding merchandise is a bit of a struggle there and this helps their market, where as here, inventory isn't an issue.
They said that inventory in the UK is just like the US. They tested the market in 2023 in Germany. They had great results. I am also not sure if it will make it to the US but it is very interesting to see what comes from this.

Glad you guys are safe over there. My understanding of the no seller fees in the UK is that it is only for private sellers not Sellers with Stores. I don't feel that they will attract average buyers with charging them fees. To attract people to look at eBay as a shopping option when making online purchases for their needs/wants/gifts I don't think adding more $$ as fees will do that. When I talk to people about eBay they usually say "but Amazon is so much faster and cheaper". Maybe I don't explain eBay well enough but I feel that the average shopper would not understand more fees on top of taxes and shipping. I wish they would do a public campaign about reusing, recycling, upcycling and being able to find what you need/want on eBay platform. Many of us sellers take time and effort to make sure we are putting out quality items; cleaning/prepping and even some times repairing to make sure items do not end up in the land fill and can get to a new home. This is just my opinion. Although making money a priority for me selling on eBay, I am a little bit of a romantic in that I want to save the world of its unnecessary garbage, LOL!
I agree what Ebay needs to do more to attract buyers. I feel like that has been lacking for years. I get feeling that eBay doesn't think they need to attract buyers since they already had over a 130 million users. This change international has added more sellers to the Germany market. They have been trying this since 2023 over there. The vibe I got from the reports is that ebay is stating more Sellers have turned into buyers because of this process. They are hoping to continue that trend in the Uk with these new changes. Hopefully these changes due help to keep more items out of landfills.
Most of us are already paying for a store subscription every month and a lot are paying advertising fees every other sale... so its not like they are reducing everything the seller pays to 0.
