Dude you are an ELITE miata owner/youtuber. Can't be more satisfied with this channel, worth GOLD.
You're the only UA-camr that I would sponsor, your content and attitude is so humbling, and makes me want to work on my car! :D
My hero
Snags and hiccups are a part of working on cars. I do it for a living. It's just the way it is. Sometimes you can improvise, sometimes you just can't. Every 10 minute job is one broken bolt away from turning into a 3 day ordeal. Good job man.
protip for when ever you do anything involving opening the brake system. if you depress the brake pedal fully simultaneously as you remove the line(obviously need a second person) then use a pry bar or anything to ensure it stays down the master cylinder will be closed and not bleed out over time. so you wont have to rush when youre opening the brake system. very useful if youre putting new soft lines on so you lose as little fluid as possible and makes the bleeding process easier and faster since you wont get air in the master cylinder
Every mechanic knows that rage, Greg. "Why won't this damn nut thread? I JUST TOOK IT OFF." -_-
I have run into seemingly endless problems with my turbo E30 setup. As awful as it sounds, I am happy to know I’m not alone in my misery! Thanks for the content dude. I have never and probably will never own a Miata but I keep up with you all of your videos!
Been missin your content bro. Good to see you back 🙌🏼 We still need to have our taco date 💁🏻♀️
We have to have both of our cars there, mandatory 🔥 I need to hear that idle in person
I'm 3 days into changing my timing belt using your awesome video guide (I snapped the thermostat housing, no biggy, just had to wait for parts). So glad to see you still making new videos that i can aspire to have to need in the future.
One bloke, One (and a half) Miata , one gopro + milkcrate addon and you get some of the best content on this site.
I knew this was going to be a piece of cake for you. Love seeing all of those new bushings. Especially like the background music.
I like the music and the detailed labelling. And for all the trouble the most important thing (after a battery charge) it superior lighting and camera angles. Thanks for a job well DONE !!!!
Thank you for sharing the good and the fixable with us!
Used to work at a sporting goods store sometimes I tried to face(line up the boxes) all in one breathe. Usually took 2 minutes for a section so I'd almost pass out.
Tip for disconnecting brake lines- Before you start, put a bar or something holding the brake pedal down about an inch, this locks the fluid in the master so you can take your time with stuff being disconnected. When the work is done, open the bleeder and let the pedal up, gravity will bleed out the air while you crack your congratulatory beer. If the car will be disassembled a long time, remove the brake light fuse or disconnect the battery so the brake lights don't drain it.
The struggle is real! Really cool to see you put so much time and effort to make a deadline. Idk how you deal with the stress man I couldnt take it. Keep hammering and you'll be doing laps at laguna in no time homie!!
There is something about your vid's that are so motivating for me. Last year when you where posting about swapping your trans all by yourself, it got me to drop the trans on my car and do the clutch and flywheel (at the same time I decided to install my turbo kit). So i asked for a week vacation from work and started wrenching on the floor with floor jacks and maybe about 40 hours of work and many rusty/broken bolts later I was spooling and getting used to a new 3 puck grippy clutch. A few weeks ago I was trying to install a whiteline sway bar and both bolts to one of my D bracket broke on the subframe (I was angry). I had to order a rivnut insert tool and some inserts but haven't had the motivation to do it ( I hate working on the floor). But I feel like after tomorrow there will be less swaying than usual on my car (hopefully) . Thanks Greg
Totally agree. Greg is a gangster doing all of this work lying on the ground with basic hand tools - out in the sun no less. He's motivated me to start saving for a turbo and begin work on supporting mods.
You coming back inspired me to spend a ton on making my miata close to what your beast will be like
Two words. ACE Hardware. A legendary selection of any fastener I have ever needed. If you have one near you I would suggest checking them out
This is absolutely brilliant. Perfect for helping me replacing the subframe on my Miata. Big thanks!
Minus having to deal with my rusty Midwest bolts, but hey, that's not anyone's fault.
Can't wait to see this thing on the street again! My head gasket blew so I'm gonna have to stop dragging my feet and proceed to actually build it like I always wanted. Needless to say I will be binge watching your build on repeat to help me along the way lmaoo
I'm mightily impressed with your knowledge and skills. And surgically clean waist-high lift-equipped dream workshop. And doing it on your own.
I'm sure this would have taken me a week, if I had had the guts to even start, which I doubt. KUDOS! All the best, Rob
I just want the wheel reveal already.
Great video. Thank you. You are not alone. Home project cars throw up surprises like a bad day after. Good psych job on yourself there, too. Asesome job. Its gonna be well worth it when its done!
Damn that sway bar is nicely positioned. I bought a sway bar kit for my Mercedes and for the rear one I would have had to drop the rear subframe to install it since the swaybar goes over the subframe... Well it handles much better with 34mm front swaybar compared to stock 28mm, rear seemed optional to begin with. Then there is the fact that theres a big iron block inline-6 in the front. Its TIGHT, there is 5cm between the aux belt and radiator. And theres a 3cm deep belt driven fan in between. I feel like a neurosurgeon after doing any job that requires removing the fan.
That some quick work there - and I feels ya on the nothing ever goes as planned. I'm still working on a coolant reroute hose that burst (rubbing on the engine bay shelf edge) replacing it with another and it just been a comedy of errors trying to get the right hose. Crazy.
I remember those days of doing it in the dirt on your back with simple hand tools. Bravo, brother.
Well done Greg. Chin up, it'll be worth it when it's done!
Good to see the car is almost done!! Best Miata youtuber hands down!! I gotta do a torsen swap on mine soon 😁
Super humble guy. One of the main reasons I got a Miata. Turbo coming soon for my nb? I think yes.
This is the video I've been needing! Thank you so much, You're the man greg!!
Glad your back at the videos.
So much fun to watch! : ) Can`t wait to see you drive that thing on BOOST :)
Also, you should really consider purchasing an electric impact gun. Ryobi's little $100 1/2" impact is surprisingly effective for 90% of bolts. It might struggle with a crank bolt or axle nut, but most suspension and drivetrain bolts, it can handle no problem. I run a kobalt brushless 1/2" and it has only lost out to a super stuck crank bolt that took an oxy torch and a snap on air impact to get off. Milwaukee and harbor freight's battery impact guns are also king. But bang for the buck (and the weight/size... its basically the same size/weight as a cordless drill) the ryobi can't be beat.
Always good when Greg uploads 🙌🏽🙌🏽
As always appreciate you taking time to make the videos on basically how to build my dream car 👌✌
I feel for you. I’ve been building a turbo Miata/project car for 3 years in the rain, dirt, and rocks and it seems never ending. Two things always break while installing/fixing one. Now I’m headed down the same road because HP goals with a house full of parts you’re scared to throw out because inevitably. Keep fighting entropy my friend👍
JSB = Jack Stand Ballin'. Lol
You are unbelievable. Looks like a nightmare job to me, but you do like it was nothing. Amazing 😉
And your camera work and
audio is very good...
Well done. 👍
@ 5:41...good pro tip but USE CAUTION when doing this. I junked a wheel bearing doing this to drive in my driver's side axle. Hub and inner race popped out.
I am thankful for air tools, Milwaukee tools, and two post lifts. 🙌 Greg here slaying away MVP
7:44 nice job locking it Craig, don't want anyone to drive off with it. ;)
Yea man, love it that you are having vids coming out days after one another, god keep it up, but summer is almost gone
Probably wont see the meat of the action until it starts getting warm again next year...
Good effort Greg. Lovin’ the recent vids. Now where’s those new wheels?
awesome job. power tools will help. pneumatic impact tool will really help. keep up the work
Yeah, Greg! Good hard work! Crazy good!
AWESOME STUFF MAN - Nice Job
Cars are so much work..... it’s amazing we all put up with it
Keep the videos coming! Great job
and i need 2 weeks to convert to poly bushings :-D
awesome speed and video, greg! keep things going
Creg uploads keep me motivated to upload. Keep up the good work Craig
was about to get ready for work when this showed up, i can be late again!!
Hell of a job that. Took mine out last year and the car started to rock forwards off the axle stands once I dropped the rear sub frame off. All the engine and gearbox weight at the front and not much left at the back once it’s out. Was a scary moment.
Killing it bro keep it up
You are a saint Greg Peters. Great work, great channel
Carpassion miata >>> fyeah miata
Wait a sec.... that snap on bag actually has a bottom?
I was in a work meeting when I read this comment, literally laughed out loud 👏😂
went to take a bathroom break to watch this vid. good work
My Hero :) Seriously, good job!
Love the video, great work. But i dont think your time really count if you already have that exhaust and the drivetrain removed 😅😂
You edit skills are good.
Chin up Greg lad, it's nearly done :D
Amazing man. But don't stress yourself too much
You're a machine😲👏👏👏
Try doing this and breaking off one of the studs that hold the subframe into place, that shit delayed me about 4 weeks to get it somewhat near fixed. Since it’s part of the chassis rail you can’t just replace it either. I now drive around with one subframe stud with a different thread pitch which is essentially just a long bolt welded to the inside of the chassis rail.. that shit still feels sketchy
nothing ever works out when i work on my car, that's not new lol
nice vid
That was quick but I am like a turtle when I work on my car. I just say this whole day I will work on my car smoke a bit, go inside when it's really hot and wait for the shade to come back to the driveway. That's the one awesome thing about living in Cali though, if you got good shade you can wrench on your car all the way till winter. Hope to see you at Laguna Seca
I second that emotion.
Hopefully you will change from a bad luck Brian to a good luck Greg
Call me childish but this was NUTS. Thanks for the content Greg!
Lovin the felly beat
Me fixing up my crashed miata, ah im almost done just a front bumper, goes to get the allignment done, and find out my subframe was bent 18mm, next pay day! :D
I like the new shorter but more frequent small update vids.
Probably a better way to keep/get more views/subscribers as well :P.
Pro at work here.. took me about 6hs just to fit a torsen 2 diff in my nb 😂
Nice
I know you uploaded this almost 2 years ago. But I hope you see this, I need some advice. Are the rear subframe braces necessary? Thank you in advance!!
6 months for engine swap and 5 speed swap still haven’t fully drove it , gotta bleed breaks, put exhaust on and alignment
Two wholesome bois
Bad Luck Brian? Hey! You mentioned me. Sorta.
Battery on gopro goes dead, illuminati confirmed
How did you know your subframe was bent? Wondering how to tell
Wish I was closer. I'd help you out.
You removed the subframe faster than I can usually get one axle popped out. The one piece axles suck to get unclipped!
Thanks for the video! Giving me an incentive to do my MG TF's front suspension. Gotta drop the subframe just to take out two frickin' bolts! The rest are easy. Such a crappy design.
Been putting off the job for weeks. Be glad you went with Mazda. British engineered cars aren't very good to work on!
Motivation motivation where art thou?
See ya laguna seca ill be there !!
Greg is my MCM
Cant you take the entire subframe down without taking off the control arms?
Hey Greg! How did you know your sub frame was bent?!?
Fast enough to watch it in the bathroom on the clock? I think yes.
How the cancer hell do you remove the brake line on driver side??
So could i just drop the whole complete subframe in one go?
If only that was that easy in the UK where every single bolt will be rusty and probably snap :(
7:34 the Male equivalent of a Gucci purse
I'd like to point out we have the same phone😀😂
When did you remove the diff to PPF bolts? Or did you not need to?
This car has a transmission swap that does not use the PPF. Otherwise that is an additional step.
NB Miata should be pretty similar don’t you think?
So close!!
Did you move to a new pad? Doesn’t look like your old house
wow much bent
many swaps
wow
🙌🙌🙌
Why cant you leave all the stuff on it minus the brake calipers?
Weight for one thing. And it all has to come off to swap the K frame in anyway. If you were swapping the entire thing, control arms and all, and had some help and more than just a single floor jack to support it, you could swap it all at once.
So this rear cradle cannot come out as one big unit, axles and all still in place?
It can, it's just easier to loosen and remove everything while it's on the car vs doing it on the ground
TheCarPassionChannel ok.. Thanks. Trynna get a full cradle from a parts car, trying to see what would be the most efficient way of pulling it.
don't you own any power tools?
