Bill of materials, table of contents, and datasheets are in video description. Version 2.5 and version 5 (it literally says version 5 on the board) are similar, one uses application 1 schematics from BGA427 datasheet, and the other uses application 2 schematics from BGA427. Application 2 schematics has more components and provides more amplification.
Good morning! First of all, thank you for sharing and for taking the trouble to do this work. I am interested in doing a single antenna installation, in that case would you recommend installing a PCB version 2.5 even if it gets an amplification lower than 5.0 or is the single antenna configuration in PCB version 2.5 not recommended? Thank You!
(Edit: First I'd like to give a major thanks for making these videos, they're immensely helpful and I really appreciate your effort putting these together!) So, at 46:28, you basically (bypass) short the resistor having both ends connected to the same pad on the flex board so why leave it? I think it's going to put full voltage to both sides, yes?
3.3 volts on one side of that resistor, and 2.7 on the other side going to the LNA. By shorting you giving 3.3 volts to that LNA. Now, by all electronics laws you shouldn't be doing this, because LNA will distort. But, for some reason it works just fine for BFU550AR. With this jumper, you getting more far stations. Without that jumper, you don't get those far stations.
It looks like in this video you are only using the version 2.5 board, is that correct? Also, is it true the version 5.0 boards require less modification to the radio? One seller on aliexpress for the version 5.0 boards has it listed in the description that the board only requires one jumper wire. Is the one jumper wire the proper way to install the version 5.0 mod board? I'm not seeing in your this video where you cover the version 5.0 board even though in the thumbnail and video title, am I missing something? You cover everything meticulously! I've got 3 different versions of the mod coming to compare for myself which has the best quality and your videos are the gold standard on how to install everything, keep up the great work!
He would have RST jumper only listed. It would work, you will receive the FM. But realize you have signal exiting that LNA transistor, going through a cap, and then going through another cap on the version 5 board. That doesn't sound correct to me. So you'd have to put a jumper across that cap. Next to that cap, you have a cap and a coil, so why would you have a cap and a coil to the ground hanging from your FM antenna? That also doesn't sound right, so you remove a cap and a coil as well. Up on top next to LNA you have stock 47 pF capacitor which we replace with 100 nF cap. I guess you can leave it alone, but if 100 nF caps are supplied, replace it, or if you have a 100 nF laying around replace it. We talking about FM here and the difference will be in how many "far" stations you will receive. For example here in Sochi, I am able to receive FM from Krasnaya Polana, that's 30 something kilometers away over mountains, and from Turkey, that's 250+ kilometers away over the Black Sea. It does make a difference when you take your radio into mountains, where there are no FM to listen to. I would also order BFU550AR transistors, and replace that LNA in FM tract, so that you have more amplification for the FM. Stock amplification is 9 dBm, and you will have 18 dBm, and the scale is no linear, so it is more than twice more. As far as AM/LSB/USB/CW you are using different antenna, so what you do with FM does not affect you. Version 5 board is same as version 2.5 board, the only difference is how BGA427 LNA is implemented, other than that it will install the same.
Very interesting! one question, if using the dual antenna setup, why you need to remove the condenser and coil and replace input condenser for FM Radio? I thought this only was need to do if using the single antenna setup to receive both FM/HF signals with the original antenna. But if HF signal comes from the external antenna, I don't see why we need to take them off and replace input condenser. I will appreciate your feed back on this! Thanks!
@@codernovYes I understand. But is this really needee? Why not leave oeiginal components when this is only used for Radio FM circuit as originally? What's the improvement removing the cap and coil and replacing cap compared to leaving the originals?

Per my previous post, I did some more research. I am using CEC firmware and when I go into the HF receive mode and switch to FM radio broadcast receive, the audio is heavily distorted. I found that shorting out the 1kohm resistor to the right of the audio driver clears it up 100%. Not sure why this is, but maybe you can explain? Either way, I soldered a jumper from the resistor at the 'T' of the trace from the bottom right leg up to the top of the next capacitor (shorting that one , essentially.)
gracias nuevamente y felicitaciones!!!!!!!
So in V5 ,do you remove the 2 caps and coil of v2.5 and remplace.the capacitor? I do ,.with the excess of 2.5 caps and FM is outstanding.
Install for all version is the same
is the EpROM upgrade absolutely necessary for this upgrade?
I would say yes, because to use radio fully you need r3b0rn firmware, which requires eeprom. You could use CEC, but then no spectrum, no fun, bare egzumer.
What is choke value ?
cunado cambia los transistores BGA427 & BFU550ar. Los inductores que valor son? 15 mh (minuto 9.19).
puedes dejar un link donde comprarlos?
I bought mine here aliexpress.ru/item/1005006838043805.html
Thanks for all your work on this, I could not really tell the difference but am inclined to go with a dual antenna setup. 73 G0ACE
The safest option
@@codernov Thanks for your reply.
What make and model multimeter do you have
brymen BM869s
So that is liquid you use to desolder?
Low melting point solder. Melting point is like 90C. It stays molten a bit longer, that way you can make it molten on both sides of the chip using 1 solder tip and take off your chip.
@@codernov Ahh, Thank you
R3b0rn
What is this mod for ?
Receive HF
@codernov but doesn't it receive hf already out of box ?
@@KaKiBaKi 20 meters, 40 meters, 80 meters
@@codernov się what is this mod doing exactly. Better range or ability to idę all freaquencies or what ?
EEPROM Reset
