The Jelly Belly factory was a favorite destination for our kids' school field trips and scout activities. The kids would ride the train around the factory, see how the jelly bellies and other candies were made, lots of artwork made from jelly bellies, and the saving the best for last -- the free samples at the end of the tour. But this came to an end during the pandemic, as they closed the Pleasant Prairie WI factory in 2020. I don't think they do anything at the North Chicago factory. California is still open, if you happen to be close to that location. Of course, the goal of the free tours was for you to buy stuff. Our favorite was getting the big bags of Belly Flops. Large bags of beans that did not meet quality control. Shapes were wrong, mismatched colors, etc... Tasted the same. Best thing was that these bags were at pretty good discount.
I know the California one its a place tourists would stop for a break in Fairfield, CA before they head to their main destinations in San Francisco, Wine Country, and Sacramento.

My favorite flavor has always been Island Punch. As of late I've been using Sports Beans for fighting game tournaments and I must say they really do work.
This video made me realize that I haven't had Jelly Belly beans in quite a while. There's a Beanboozled box in the pantry, but no one has bothered to open it. Maybe tonight's the night. I don't really have a favorite flavor. I like the recipes, where you'll take one or two of one flavor and one of another, like lime with creme soda. They're just fun to play with.

I remember once visiting the jelly belly factory. They say that they spend a lot of time experimenting with flavor until they get the jelly bean flavor just right. Like, I guess instead of just something that tastes approximately "cherry" they make sure that eating the jelly bean and eating a cherry both give you pretty much the same flavor. The blueberry flavor that they make is probably the only candy I've ever had that actually reminds me of a blueberry, rather than some abstract "blue" candy flavor like "blue raspberry" or some other made up one.
Always thought the watermelon ones were the most clever with the green shells and red insides! In the 80s they used to have apricot which were great! Not long after that they seemed to do away with putting those super potent light blue mint ones in the assortments!
Jelly bellys are my absolute favorite candy. I've been obsessed with the juicy pear flavor forever. Idk how they managed to make it seem genuinely juicy.

Yeah, I can think of no other food product that is supposed to mimic another that comes anywhere as close to "accurate" as Jelly Belly beans. Can't say I have a favorite flavor; pretty much anything but licorice and I'll be happy! (My mom had a deal for my brothers and me growing up. She would get us big boxes of jelly beans but we had to give her all the black licorice - which was great cause none of us liked that flavor!)
I fondly remember Jelly Belly because I live in the area near their factory in Fairfield, California. I have taken countless free tours of the Jelly Belly factory where they show you the history of the candy, the machines that make them, and tons of art made out of jelly beans! My favorite part was the free small pack of jelly beans you get at the end of the tour. The gift shop is enormous with every flavor and more. There's also a section just for fudge. My dad's favorite thing to buy was their "belly flops," which are 2-lb bags of jelly beans that weren't high-quality enough to sell (e.g., shaped wrong). Overall, I'm a big Jelly Belly fan and I think they deserve the credit they receive if not more! My favorite flavor has to be buttered popcorn because it's a perfect mashup of flavors and it's not too sweet.
I loved Jelly Belly. I remember going to the Jelly Belly factory in Fairfield, California a few times as a preteen as my family often commuted between San Francisco and Sacramento. I loved the root beer and Dr. Pepper flavors. I also remember doing the Bean Boozled challenge once (and never again). I ended up eating the "canned dog food" flavored bean and that taste stayed in my mouth for 4 days despite the constant brushing teeth and mouth wash. Scarred for life!
This is really fascinating. Thank you for producing such excellent content. I never knew how difficult it was for Jelly Belly to shift from Candy Corn to Jelly Beans and the fact that their brand name is associated with quality Jelly Beans is cool.
I love this topic! I find it so interesting that my favorite candy has such deep roots. While pancake is a great flavor, I personally love Juicy Pear the most. I’m not sure why but it hits different.
I'll never forget with these, my mom's a teacher and would use candies as rewards in the classroom and when she asked what the kids wanted, they said jelly beans, so my dad got a costco sized container of jelly bellys and the kids DID NOT LIKE THEM. One was actually crying when he asked "do we have to finish them?" Clearly those kids were not fans lol
Never was a fan of jelly beans in general. The only time I ever recall buying any Jelly Belly beans was for Thanksgiving 2013, along with a bag of popcorn, a loaf of bread, and a bag of pretzels to recreate the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving day snack plate. Lol
Fun fact. George Harrison loved Jelly Beans. His sister Tells a story about when the Beatles were first starting to get popular in the USA she used to throw jellybeans onto the stage at George to make him laugh.
It's been so long since I had Jelly Bean. I think Green Apple was my favorite, but I know for sure that they were my childhood favorite. There's just hundreds of flavors to try and I don't think I could ever pick a definite favorite. 😅
They used to have a jelly belly factory/distribution center in Pleasant Prairie, Wi. It was a fun destination for friends and family who had kids from out of town. They threatened to close it around 2017, then changed their mind when Haribo announced they were opening a factory up the street from them, and then suddenly changed their mind during the pandemic, and just ended everything. Haribo is either opening soon, or just opened.... The gummy bears guys. I thought they were going to keep it open forever and ever when I went on the tour in about 2018, and they had added a small batch test kitchen to the end of the tour where they could work on ideas and get immediate diverse public feedback. Now it's just another empty warehouse with the Jelly Belly Red/yellow stripes around the top of the building.
If you're ever in California, go visit their manufacturing plant. The tour is so much fun. And the cafe is quite good. And there's wine tasting. I've actually gone three times and loved all of them.
If you have the opportunity to tour their factory in Fairfield, California, DO IT! It's well worth a visit!! They offer free tastings of course and have an area of "interesting" flavors.
I love Jelly Belly. I used to live in Cleveland, home of the biggest candy warehouse in the United States, B. A. Sweeties. They have an entire section of a wall dedicated to a Jelly Belly dispenser, separated by flavor so you can make your own mix. My personal favorites are Berry Blue, Very Cherry and Sizzling Cinnamon
That pancakes flavor must be a fairly recent addition, I’d never heard of it. My favorite is probably Orange Sherbert or Pina Colada. Buttered Popcorn is a good one too, especially if you combine it with Blueberry to make that blueberry muffin combo that they recommend.
Jelly Belly Sours are my favorite… of any candy! They don’t last more than a couple of days when I get them! I go back to ‘98 with them…when they were labeled Sassy Sours.
Jelly Belly jelly beans are my favorite brand of jelly beans. There's no comparison on quality and flavor variety. I would love to visit with their R&D to see how they hone in on a product flavor.
Nice video! Yes! Jelly Belly! Definitely my go-to when I visit mall candy stores (yes they still exist!). My favorite flavor would have to be the sour orange one from the Jelly Belly Sours set; the sours in general are the ones I go for. This is an interesting transition for the company too from one type of seasonal candy to another associated with a completely different holiday. Come to think of it though the big candy companies do make seasonal candy for every holiday that has a candy that goes with it.
I remember that Jelly Belly had a huge wall length ad in the Travis AFB PAX terminal. And despite only being a few miles away I never got around to visiting the factory.
When I was a little kid jelly beans were the filler my parents would put in Easter eggs which more often than not ended up in the trash (or saved as the candy of last resort when all the other Easter candy had run out). How times have changed.
@@tylerboothman4496 Yes! Those things were softer and the "filling" inside felt like they took shortcuts when making and didn't heat up the sugar enough so it almost had a crunch to it when you bit down.
I think their creativity in so many flavors is what makes them fun and exciting. The bertie botts line with harry potter is probably the most genius move they ever made at the time too ^^
I’m canadian and I think if you had the time and energy to cover Giant Tiger it would be amazing. I would love to know why I’m so goddamn addicted. Jelly Belly is my absolute favorite candy! Their flavors are so intense and accurate. I remember when they used to print "recipes" on the back of the bag. Blueberry and buttered popcorn together to make a blueberry muffin was my favorite one.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and the location 90 minutes east of SF in Fairfield, CA is their corporate headquarters. I went there 9 years ago for the tour and it was awesome to see how they make the beans! They also have a huge jelly belly store on site with pretty much every flavor they make in bulk. If you come to the SF Bay Area, it’s a must see! You’ll only spend a few hours there, but it’s cool to be a part of history!
Peach has always been my favorite along with tutti frutti! I love Jelly Belly!!! Never tried pancakes and maple syrup though so I will have to give that a try. Great video! 😀👍
Back in August of 2017, I met Herman G. Rowland, the chairman of jelly belly. We got started talking about cars in Monterey and he said “wait here”. He went to his Ferrari, grabbed a box of bean boozled and a bag of not yet released Krispy Kreme jelly beans and he even gave me one of his business cards. It was shaped like a jelly bean and I still have it. Super cool guy.
I grew up in California not far from where they are headquartered and I remember in the 2000's they had Jelly Belly stores where you could get free samples and take pictures with the Jelly Belly portrait of Reagan.
The Bertie Botts Every-Flavor Beans are a nice way to end up with a candy dish of nothing but pepper, earwax, and vomit flavored jelly beans after all the edible ones have been consumed. They really didn't have to stick with what had been mentioned in the books up to that point...
I remember watching an episode of "Unwrapped" that featured the Bernie Botts beans. They made it very clear that the vomit, earwax, and grass-flavored beans were among the very few beans that were NOT made using all-natural ingredients.
Hey, COMPANY MAN….I’m relaxing watching this after a long hot day, of seeing the pyramids of Giza, and the sphinx!!!!! VACY in Egypt…..from a midwestern man!!!!

Hey Company Man, could you do a video discussing the differences between Thuisbezorgd/JustEat/Deliferando, Delivaroo, and Uber Eats in Europe? I'd love to hear what you have to say.
I love Jelly Belly so much to the point where I hope they never go out of business. I've tried every jelly bean out there and I have yet to find one that's better. The problem that I'm having is that they're getting harder and harder to find. A lot of candy shops that did distribution are closed and now most retail companies don't sell individual flavors anymore. Plus they don't have most of their big name licensing like Disney and Hello Kitty. Maybe things changed but something tells me they've peaked.
I also like how they put out advertisements and packaging notes on how you can combine flavors to make stuff like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or various other combos. I was poor growing up, and Jelly Bellies were a little pricey, so I don't have a favorite, but generally I liked the fruity and soda flavored ones.
I LOVE JELLY BELLIES!!!!! I have even been to their plant in Fairfield California, where they have a huge mosaic painting made of jelly beans of Ronald Reagan...they even sell "Belly Flops"...Beans that were kind of deformed, but tasted the same...It was a great tour!!!!!!
It was not the first jellybean in space due to the Challenger, cause that shuttle blew up in atmosphere and never got into space. It was a pretty big deal at the time.
Very well done! And even though I was very familiar with every bit of the story, I really enjoyed your telling of it! I worked in sales and marketing at Jelly Belly from 1989 to 2005, my first 12yrs building the international (export) business, then the last few years as overall head of marketing. I was lucky enough to be there and play a part in JB Sours, the Harry Potter flavors, and JB Sports Beans. An amazing company and culture. Even on rough days, all i had to do was leave my office, walk 100yds to our Visitor Center, and see the joy in the faces of visitors from around the world. It would always put me back in a good mood! Oh, yeah, my favorite flavor is still Juicy Pear. Thanks again for a great portrait of a cool family and company!
I took a tour of the Jelly Belly factory years ago, at the end of the tour I was given a big bag of jelly beans, mis-shapen rejects they called Belly Flops. One of my favorite factory tours!
Jelly Belly is literally the only jelly bean worth buying imo. I never realized why I can't stand other brands until you just mentioned it - the insides aren't flavored! My favorite flavor of Jelly Belly has to be either Margarita or Pina Colada. The pear flavor is also up there.
Despite not liking jelly beans (texture thing) this company was a big part of my child hood. My dad worked on racing speed boats called Super Cats, and one of the ones he worked on was Gone Again Jelly Belly. Having the branding on it meant we got tons of merch and so many free jelly beans.
They were huge in the mid to late 90s. I remember where I was when I tried my first one. It was popcorn and I was 15, on vacation. Every now and then I find bags of 'Belly Flops' which are their rejects all bundled together. The flavors are often unrecognizable but still super tasty.
This just took me back to my childhood in the mid 90's, going to Blockbuster renting vhs tapes, sega games, and buying buttered popcorn jelly bellies every Friday.
I LOVE Jelly Belly. Top Pear and Ripe Banana are my favorites. I've been on the Jelly Belly factory tour at least twice--once as a child and once as an adult.
Jelly Belly is truly one of the most underrated candies. Just the sheer amount of flavors means they probably have one of your favorites in a jelly bean. There are so many flavors that you don't see in other candies: blueberry, cantaloupe, pear, blackberry, plum. The list goes on and on.
I remember a marketing rep for jellybelly explaining you can combine two different flavors like coconut and pineapple to make piñacolada. I tried a bunch of concoctions after that.

Have you ever tried the vomit one? It's terrifyingly accurate.
@@JakeLovesSteak thankfully I have not
This is really fascinating. Thank you for producing such excellent content. I never knew how difficult it was for Jelly Belly to shift from Candy Corn to Jelly Beans and the fact that their brand name is associated with quality Jelly Beans is cool.

Jelly beans are my favorite. My grandma always had jelly bellies on her counter. The day they ran out hit me hard
Lol
Its amazing how they made the Krispy Kreme beans taste like they were actually fried.
Fun fact. George Harrison loved Jelly Beans. His sister Tells a story about when the Beatles were first starting to get popular in the USA she used to throw jellybeans onto the stage at George to make him laugh.
Thank you David Klein! Your jelly beans were the greatest.
It's been so long since I had Jelly Bean. I think Green Apple was my favorite, but I know for sure that they were my childhood favorite. There's just hundreds of flavors to try and I don't think I could ever pick a definite favorite. 😅
Buttered Popcorn and Juicy Pear are easily my favorites but yes, they earned their reputation, it's well deserved.
Yes popcorn !
The 7up line of soda flavored jelly beans are a personal favorite. If they ever come up with a sprite flavored jelly bean, I'd buy it.
If you're ever in California, go visit their manufacturing plant. The tour is so much fun. And the cafe is quite good. And there's wine tasting. I've actually gone three times and loved all of them.
favorite flavor? I love cotton candy and cream soda (but not together)
If you have the opportunity to tour their factory in Fairfield, California, DO IT! It's well worth a visit!! They offer free tastings of course and have an area of "interesting" flavors.
COCONUT is BY FAR my favorite Jelly Belly flavor 🤤🤤🤤🤤 But I've never even HEARD of the Pancake & Maple Syrup flavored ones! Thats wild!!
I am a lifelong addict of jelly belly jellybeans. My favorite flavor is so hard to find in stores or online, Berry Blue. But I love it so much.
I've gotten to visit the Jelly Belly Factory in California and it was so cool. I love the lemon ones.
I live in the town where the Jelly Belly factory is. We finally made the big time with our own Company Man episode!
I love these things. I've been to the factory in CA twice and to the warehouse in WI. Too bad the warehouse has been closed to the public.
My family used to visit the Jelly Belly factory when we’d take ski trips to Tahoe.
My favorite flavor is green apple.
I have never liked Sizzling Cinnamon. Sensitive tongue.
Starburst jelly beans around Easter are the GOAT among jelly beans. However I admire Jelly Belly as a novelty item.
That pancakes flavor must be a fairly recent addition, I’d never heard of it. My favorite is probably Orange Sherbert or Pina Colada. Buttered Popcorn is a good one too, especially if you combine it with Blueberry to make that blueberry muffin combo that they recommend.
0:24 Point of order, Mars is still privately owned by the Mars family, not publicly traded.
My favorite is the popcorn mix with blueberry to make “blueberry muffin”
Jelly Belly has hundreds of flavours! Many of them are brand-exclusive. Too many flavours to try before I die!
Fave time of the week when Company Man posts!
I love that they seem like a carefree fun loving company willing to try whatever flavor someone thinks of.
Nice video!
Did you have those giant (like 3x the size of a normal jelly bean) ones that were somehow gritty and softer?
@@tylerboothman4496 Yes! Those things were softer and the "filling" inside felt like they took shortcuts when making and didn't heat up the sugar enough so it almost had a crunch to it when you bit down.
Jelly belly is legit good. I haven't tried them a lot but I've never been disappointed
I've toured one of their factories before! It was really fun :D
I think their creativity in so many flavors is what makes them fun and exciting. The bertie botts line with harry potter is probably the most genius move they ever made at the time too ^^
when I was a kid, it blew my freakin mind when I bit into a green watermelon jelly belly and it was red on the inside 🤯
For a company to make something taste exactly like earwax or dirt, to as great as Krispy Kreme doughnuts, has longevity in my eyes
I’m canadian and I think if you had the time and energy to cover Giant Tiger it would be amazing. I would love to know why I’m so goddamn addicted. Our city is getting our second giant tiger (Sault Ste Marie Ontario) and it’s kinda bizarre. We had two Walmarts for like 2 seconds or so and it didn’t work out. I know giant tiger is a lot smaller and lower quality but frig Canadians love our GT boutique!!!
We went to the Jelly Belly factory in San Francisco and they offer an amazing tour there- I highly recommend it!
I just love these! I am also a fan of the licorice flavor, but hate the buttered popcorn one. I'm just weird I guess.
Buttered popcorn is my personal favorite. Amazingly accurate taste.
oh my god i actually got it recommended 2 minutes after uploading
1 minute for me. Algo is crazy
Jelly Belly is my absolute favorite candy! Their flavors are so intense and accurate. I remember when they used to print "recipes" on the back of the bag. Blueberry and buttered popcorn together to make a blueberry muffin was my favorite one.
Imagine the guy in the lab that’s able to say “Yep, that tastes like a used bandage.” 🤔👍
Went there several times for school trips, don’t have a big sweet tooth but I always loved getting a big bag of the sours in their reject sale bin.
I'll eat the pepper over sour apple or coconut any day.
It baffles me how accurate those flavors are.
Living the Bay Area on school field trips we would go to the jelly belly factory in Fairfield. There is a huge jelly bean on the sign as you pass it on the freeway. it was SO FUN my favorite field trip lol. I wouldn’t think they are doing it now! But I definitely taking my son there soon!!!
True I been to the Fairfield, CA one and its the one I been to when I was a kid on Field Trips.
JellyBelly will always have a soft spot in my heart. When I was 6 years old my dad and i used to buy the Dr. Pepper ones and eat them together
Hey Company Man, could you do a video discussing the differences between Thuisbezorgd/JustEat/Deliferando, Delivaroo, and Uber Eats in Europe? I'd love to hear what you have to say.
This is my favorite video you have made so far mate!
Love Jelly Belly! The greatest candy and certainly the only jelly bean worth having!!! Very cherry and the sour line are my favs.
I will die on the vine for Black Licorice Jelly Beans
The buttered popcorn and coconut beans go so good together
