Hello Mr.Smoak. I've been watching your videos for about a year now and have enjoyed every one of them. You have inspired me to get a new 2016 iron 883. And as a result my dad is now a proud owner of a new iron, he got it about three weeks ago. He had sold his 2006 dyna about 2 years ago and was not going to ride ever again because of crazy drivers out on the street. But because of you Mr.Smoak he now owns that 2016 iron. You are the reason why I'm able to ride with my father before old age hits. I'm getting my iron 883 in September when I turn 18 and can sign a contract thank you so much for your videos and giving me the ability to bond with my father in such a way that not many get. Keep up the great work. And I look forward to seeing new content in the future.
Really liked the lighting in this vlog Mr S! Keeping the Iron makes sense and you'd keep yourself interested with those proposed mods. I kind of like the look of the new Roadster, but from some angles it's a bit of a hunchback... Plus I'd agree the rear fender has been bobbed just a bit too keenly.
Shawn, one of the things i love about your bike IS the mid controls-no WAY i'd put that cafe kit on $600 or no-and as far as forward controls i'd just get a FortyEight-for me,mid- is best!
Hey Dude. I'm over in Scotland, near Edinburgh. Not passed my bike test yet but looking to get an iron 883. Just wanted to thank you for your posts as they are fun and interesting, in my opinion the best on UA-cam as far as Iron vids go. P.s roads look awesome great (nice place) Happy riding!
+Christopher Meehan - Awesome Christopher, the best of luck with the test. I hear it's much tougher for you guys... You're way too kind, I really appreciate that sir! Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
Don't forget that most rearsets don't fit with stock style exhaust. Lately been thinking of rear sets too. Those passenger pegs are helpful when going through some pretty tight turns.
+MotoZixxer - The exhaust is a concern of mine. Every image I fine of them installed seems to be from RSD, and they have their 2-into-1 exhaust installed... I'll call them before ordering anything. Thanks man!
Half the fun of owning a Harley is gradually making those mods to tune it in to your riding style and comfort. There are just so many products out there!
You shouldn't apologize so much. Your videos turn out just fine. MOF better than mist other vloggers do, and you always do a consistently good hob at it. Keep them Iron vlogs coming. I do love them. Ride safe.
Keep the Iron?! Good plan. Hope you can get a bit of a discount off those rearsets bc 600 is a bit stiff. Now the 1200 kit doesn't change the quicker ratio of the 883 primary, right? So ultimately a converted 883 is a harder accelerating bike, right? Should be awesome. As for the lighting of this video, I thought it was great but I am nostalgic for when I lived in the PNW. Dramatic cloud contrasting lighting can be a nice reminder of those times.
My son in law had an Iron 883, with me being well over 6 feet tall I couldn't get comfortable until he fitted forward foot pegs then it was great, as a bike it was very good, in fact I bought my first Harley on the strength of having rode his. Roland Sands stuff is even more expensive over here in the UK, it works out roughly as Pounds for Dollars which means half as much again,$600 would be £600 here.
Wonderful video Shawn and the lighting was just fine. I have said it before but I am so envious of the roads you have to ride on. As for suggestions, discuss it with Kelly and decide what will be best for both of you. Frankly, I would modify the Iron rather than buying a new bike. It would be very hard for me to part with that ole girl.
I would keep and modify the Iron. You can do a lot with it. The 48 is nice I thought about getting a 48. I like my 08 1200 C and maybe will just modify and look at changes with it... Take care , I enjoy your videos. Your vids helped me get over the winter blues waiting to ride.. From Toronto, Ontario
Buddy of mine has a Superlow 883 *My profile picture* , he is looking at doing the 1200 kit on it. it's cheaper than buying a new bike, and still getting more performance out of it. Cheaper way to get a 1200, and still having a really nice bike. I love the 883 body ;)
Hey Shawn, you remind me of an Information Technology guy, over analyzing things;) Keep the Iron, put the RSD Rearset on and give it a try, that will keep you occupied for a year.
Great ride fella. Love the matt black on the iron, looks awesome and sounds sweeeet. If I ever upgrade I want a blackout bike, mine has too much chrome for uk weather, lol. I'm kinda falling for the triumph speedmaster, you ever had a bash on one? Always wondered why you carried that mirror, now I know, lol. I thought lighting looked coolio man, the sky towards the end of the vlog was epic. I'd be keeping that iron fella and I know you love it. Hope that's what you wanted to hear, lol. Tcrs ✊
Yet another great video. And the lighting?. It was great. At least to me it was. So, with that being said let me give you my opinion on the Sportster Roadster. I have three words for you. actually six. Don't Ride It. Don't do it. Why ? Because you need to eliminate motorcycle and car etc payments. Eliminate all of your debt. Then take the extra cash and build the sportster you now own into something you REALLY like. Imitate the Roadster. But to your unique aesthetic. Put money in savings. Buy that Yamaha 125Pro if you need to make payments on something. Then Kelly can have fun. She is so nice. Always fun to watch her videos with you. This is strictly my opinion. You have one life. One chance to have fun. Just DON'T RIDE THE ROADSTER. Otherwise you'll buy it. Hehe
I crunched some numbers and discovered it would be cheaper to buy the NRHS stage 2 1250 kit for my Iron than to buy a Roadster, so I would have to suggest the same.
I always enjoy your rides on the Iron. I love that Denim Black color, but had to go with Vivid Black on my Forty Eight since they didn't offer Denim Black. Will you be taking a Roadster out for a test ride soon or will that temptation be too much to pass up? I'll be anxiously awaiting your Roadster review video And raining the bell at the end of the video, lol. I stopped by my local Harley dealer last weekend to pickup a new seat for my Forty Eight and checked out the new Roadster. It was nice, but it sits higher than my Forty Eight which I wasn't fond of.
Hard to beat the 883. I really like the 05 because it has the tall suspension. 25K and she still feels, and runs like new. I love the 60+ miles per gallon I get. It would be hard to give that up for more power I don't need. If I got the new Roadster I would have to get rid of that uglyyy rear fender. The fender on the Iron to my way of thinking looks so much nicer. I think keeping the Iron is a smart idea. There is so much you can do with one to make it just the way you want it.
Hey Shawn I have drag bars and the RSD 2 in 1 slant with the noise reducer on my Matt denim iron and I love the look. The RSD rearsets look great you have to do it and the 1250 kit! QUESTION .. Can you explain the difference between the roadster and iron rear sus other than travel?
If it were me, I would look at something completely different then what you have. You have a dual sport, cruiser, bagger, and for most of the time a demo spyder. I have a sportbike, but not much fun to ride the distances you ride, so how that is probably out. I would say something like a long distance F800GS/R1200GS. Since you are getting BMW, perhaps a x-country bike with some easy off roads might be fun for you. Kind of what I am thinking of. I have 3 Ducs and yes, 1 of them is the bike you said was the ugliest thing you ever saw, the Diavel, but with the 1198 and Monster, I want something that is completely different then what I have. Variety is the spice of life!
If you can't decide between modding the Iron or getting the Roadster, flip a coin. Heads for the mod, tails for the Roadster. You don't have to go with the result, because how you feel about it will tell you what you really want to do.
im thinking the 1200 mod as well instead of a new bike. i'd do it over our long Canadian winter though. im curious about your fairing Shaun. what kind is it?
So much for Kelly getting the Iron and you getting a new bike huh? I think it'll be funny as hell if you fall in love with a Guzzi, I doubt you will because they are odd and have their quirks being a transverse twin but it'd be funny. Then again you should be paying payments on Kelly's new truck that you should be getting her.. she needs a nice F150. If you are going to modify the Iron you should build it into that NIghtster you loved so much with the clip ons and flat track/cafe style rear fender and rear sets.
I had the same problem on the weekend with the alarm! It wouldn't shut off for me to enter the pin. I replaced the battery in the key fob and all went well. I rode the roadster at a harley demo day. It's a super quick bike, but i still love the Iron more. So I am thinking of doing the 1200 or 1250 kit myself! Yourself a motorcycle tech, what are your opinions on a Harley Screaming Eagle 1200 kit vs a Hammer 1250 kit? It looks like you get a lot more of a kit for a cheaper price going with the Hammer kit. Any advice would be wonderful. Thanks Shawn!
Hey Shawn. Did you buy your fairing for the iron matte black or did you have to paint it. And if you did have to paint it, did you just spray it with a spray paint??
I kept my 2016 Iron. I bought it used from Craigslist with just 300 miles. Then I bought a used from HD dealer 2017 Roadster with 91 miles. I hear that a 883 with a 1200 kit is not as well as a performer as a factory 1200. How do you feel about that for I am not by any means an expert and you have quite allot of knowledge? In any case I only have the two bikes and love them both. The Iron is my first Harley and I really like it. But the Roadster is definitely a different beast. My problem is now I want a 2020 Softail Lowrider S and I think 2 bikes is my max. As a new biker (recently 2018 retired) not sure what to sell. Any advise will be appreciated.
just take the money you paying on the other 2 bikes and car and put all that towards the SGS payment and knock that loan out quick.then you can pay my F3-s off and buy me a new Spyder RT special series LOL sounds like a plan to me. haha
I just traded my iron for a roadster. loved it but having a ninja , the iron was gonna blow up or crash. I bought to cruise and take it easy but I'm a dumbass. was thinking of doing the same upgrades but the roadsters Brake and suspension upgrades are fkn great, the walnut tank takes you further. All it took was a test drive. I'm just sad I can't do upgrades to the roadster and make it my own yet .
Every time I get something paid off I say "Man, it's going to be great to not have any payments for a while!" Then I immediately go and buy something else. haha!
Hey Shawn, I was wondering if you could post a message in the description or even reply to this comment about your gear? (Especially backpack) thanks :)
Hi Sidar, the gloves are Pokerun Easy Rider fingerless gloves, the jacket is the wearable inner liner from a discontinued version of the Firstgear TPG Rainier jacket and the backpack is a Klim Nac Pak. My main backpack is the Klim Krew Pak. The helmet is a Shoei Qwest and the camera is a GoPro Hero 4 Silver. I hope that covers it... Thanks for watching and commenting!

We talk about you over on HDForums.com sometimes Shawn, on the Sportster section. Come over and join us. Robert Robb is a member too.
Oh really..? Well I'll have to bounce over there and join the forum. Thanks Curt!!
I'm sure you would be a big help when members of the forum has problems with their bikes. As you will see there are many sections of HDForums.
Hey Shawn, you remind me of an Information Technology guy, over analyzing things;)
Keep the Iron, put the RSD Rearset on and give it a try, that will keep you occupied for a year.
I really dig the Roadster and I'm looking forward to the Roadster MotoVlogs Shawn!!
Keep the Iron and do a 1200 Kit, it's such an awesome machine.
The Video came out great actually, very high quality.
Cheers
Sounds like a plan. Take the ole Iron to the next level. Wasn't Kelly talking about getting a bike a few weeks ago????

Good plan! Much cheaper then a new bike.. A 48 would be nice right? LoL...but I am impartial you can say :)
Sweet regular old iron you got there. Looks real nice!
Shawn, hold off on the 1200 Roadster. Wait for the Beemers and try the R1200R. Then make a decision!! Rick
I really enjoy your moto vlog's on the Iron 883, and the Road King, shame you got rid of that, but looking forward to the new upgrade's on the Iron.
I crunched some numbers and discovered it would be cheaper to buy the NRHS stage 2 1250 kit for my Iron than to buy a Roadster, so I would have to suggest the same.
Great plan I would love to see the build love cafes and use your hard earned dosh and take Kelly somewhere nice !👍🤗
I always enjoy your rides on the Iron. I love that Denim Black color, but had to go with Vivid Black on my Forty Eight since they didn't offer Denim Black. How about a video on that tuner, love your videos.
Hi Shawn - what cafe fairing do you have installed on the iron? Liked and subscribed!
If you can't decide between modding the Iron or getting the Roadster, flip a coin. Heads for the mod, tails for the Roadster. You don't have to go with the result, because how you feel about it will tell you what you really want to do.
i love my Iron! The 883 is perfect for my commute. After our Yellowstone trip I may have a different opinion and be looking for a 1250 kit. :P
Keep the Iron!! I am getting an iron now particularly because of your vlogs. What camera are you using by the way? Is it a go pro??
im thinking the 1200 mod as well instead of a new bike. i'd do it over our long Canadian winter though.
im curious about your fairing Shaun. what kind is it?
Would definitely favor the dark horse chieftain. That is one sweet bike.
So much for Kelly getting the Iron and you getting a new bike huh? I think it'll be funny as hell if you fall in love with a Guzzi, I doubt you will because they are odd and have their quirks being a transverse twin but it'd be funny.

What Fairing is on your iron? It looks so good! Love your vids man
Hey Shawn. Did you buy your fairing for the iron matte black or did you have to paint it. And if you did have to paint it, did you just spray it with a spray paint??
Well, the trade in on the Iron would be a good deposit on a Dark Horse Chiefton B-)
keep the iron! check out hammer performance's 1250 kits. you can make a much better bike than a factory roadster
seems like it would be cheaper just to keep it as is and use your rears as reverse highway pegs!
and here I thought I was the only one who likes petroleum smells. My favorite is an oil derrick.
I kept my 2016 Iron. I bought it used from Craigslist with just 300 miles. Then I bought a used from HD dealer 2017 Roadster with 91 miles. Haha, yeah, just keeping it real.

Sweet! Many thanks dude and keep the awesome videos coming! I'm really loving the sportsters :D
Dang that was a good Vlog!!!!
Keep the Iron, its way to cool to part with.
How tall are you?
I am 5'9", and wonder if maybe the pegs will fit me better. I mean if you are taller.
I am getting ready to buy one of these soon... Love this bike!
lighting was fine :]
if it isn't broken don't mess with it what i always say i would love your 883 Just the way it is always good videos
What about the Dark Horse?
Shawn, what exhaust is on you Iron?
buy a scout. it will be faster than the iron right out of the box.
I've been looking at rear sets for the Roadster as well, the RSD are very nice but a tad pricey as you know, Chainsikle also make a decent set for around a $100 less, they have some images located at chainsikle.com/menuitem/viewmenuitemproducts/id/9
Whatever brand you decide on for the rear sets I really hope you will be vloging the install.
Thanks again and keep the vlogs coming.
Oh and the lighting was perfect :)
1250 kit.
Hi ShawnI like your thinking I have been looking at the new Roadster XL1200CX and think yes that's what I want, then I take the Iron out and think I love this bike even as a 883 in full standard trim its a great bike. The only short coming is the 2015 suspension but this can be sorted with Ohlins rear shocks and progressive springs up front!I have found the rear set you are on about and they look cool (www.rolandsands.com/category/33/foot-controls) but my little lady wife goes on the back of mine regular so a no go for me.The 1200 kit is a lot of money for not a lot of gain compared to your tuned 883 or have I missed something when riding 1200 models? One thing I would like to agree with is the Iron is not a cruiser I have put a deeper saddle on which allows for more leg room and it transformed the way the bike feels and rides because you are higher and slightly further back the Iron corners and feels a lot better than standard.Ride safe and keep Vlogging.Stuart Worcestershire UK

Send me a PM if you can with 1-2 tips on collours - rendering settings! :)
Iron American Dream youtube. Share it. I need a new bike.
at least take the roadster for a test ride......then ull know
Keep what you have and put your money into your retirement account. You'll be able to buy more bikes later. I know, that doesn't do anything to help with immediate gratification. Lol
I like your style man. Keep up the good work. Check out my channel if you have the time.
