This video took me back a good 3 or so years! Not had as much time to watch your channel as much as I used to but still as great as I remember. Nice to hear you seem to be doing well Shawn, I love that you're still doing the vlogs. 👌
Howdy from Texas Shawn. I started watching your videos when I was in highschool, dreaming of owning an iron 883. Now I'm 24, just bought my first motorcycle, a 2016 HD forty eight, and just rediscovered your channel again. You talking about the old hospital brought back memories of your past videos and my time in highschool. Thanks for sticking around. Keep up the great reviews and vlogs!
I enjoy the Daily vlogs very much and watch it everyday, it's a routine, that I like, even in the summer. I noticed in one of the comments that You have to be the Nicest Guy on UA-cam, I have to agree. You always seem to roll with the punches that life throws You. Your a Good Husband, Father, Tech & Dog Guy! When You first picked up the 48 and would take Kelly out for preparations for Her MC Course, that she would take out the Spyder and seemed Very comfortable on it. So the Ryker would fit Her just right, I agree She still wouldn't ride in the cold, but God Bless Her, She'll be a Riding Lady in the Warm weather. Thanks for taking Us along for the ride.
Shawn, you’re so right that hospital looks like the one on Emergency and the Old School Hospitals I grew up seeing in the 70’s and early 80’s. I love the Sportster 48 and the graphics on the tank. They remind me of the old AMF Days. Nice Vlog. 😊
Shawn thanks for the ride on the 48 Cool Wheel. I have found myself being more cautious riding as I get older. Kelly will be very cool on that Ryker. Great Vlog. Be Cool and Ride Safe.🇺🇸🏍
I'm a subscriber to both your channels! My wife just took off on her 48 as I began watching this video! We both love that bike! I just put a 2 into 1 exhaust and a 1/4 fairing on it for her!
I had a Forty Eight for a year and half and loved it, but had to upgrade when I started taking longer rides and taking it out for weekend trips. I always enjoy your videos 👍🏻
My Sporters in Maine originally came from your dealership Shawn, West Coast HD.., purchased it from a Coast Guard member out east here who bought it new in your neck of the woods. Thanks man great video!
I know how fear can keep people away from things they love doing. But one day she will come around. At least she will ride the ryker/spider. Maybe in the summer she may have the confidence to ride the 48/ iron. Just encourage her, she will come around.
I'll ride in the cold when spring arrives because I'm excited & a new riding season has arrived but I don't have the same enthusiasm in the fall when I know 5 or 6 months of winter is ahead. Hopefully only a couple more months to go until spring for us northerners.
Great video as always Shawn, sorry to hear Kelly is still feeling not safe on the bikes, but shell feel alot more comfortable on the ryker for sure.. Alot better feeling safe and having fun then being stressed and not enjoying it that's for sure.. couldn't u trade in the 48 for a ryker? But man I love my sportster alot and they are quite fun to ride.. Keep up the awesome work as always .. 😄😄😊😊
I think she will definitely ride the Ryker more, but she still loves the 48. We could trade it in for sure, but we've decided to keep it regardless. There's an almost certain chance that the Sportster line will be dropped by Harley... Maybe as soon as the 2020 lineup! We want to have one of each of (arguably) the most iconic models of the modern era. Thanks Julien!
@@ShawnSmoak didn't know that they were going to drop that line of bikes. Dont blame u for keeping it as what's not to love about them. Always appreciate u replying to me and chatting with me. Keep up the awesome work as usual.
Mr Smoak this is another good video which I enjoyed very much, I have to say it’s only 9 more sleeps until I get my 2019 iron 883, you have been a big influence regarding this and I’ll put a vid up once I get it. Kindest regards from uk.
Got another glimpse of the Bigfoot mural down the laneway Hahahaha. I know what you mean by the obsession dilemma, I've got one at the moment for a Royal Enfield continental 650!
Think Kelly would be way more comfortable on a Ryker. Glad you are keeping her Shawn, Just had some Progressive 444's put on mine, so much nicer ride that the stock shocks. Thanks
Seems kind of strange listening to you talking about the 48 Special like she's a 'new arrival' to the Smoak Stable! Sorry to hear Kelly is not getting on with the 48 especially as she likes it so much, I heard you mention in one video about putting flat bars, moving the footrests back some, and changing the gearing, but didn't hear no more about it. I thought that would be a great idea to make it more user friendly until Kelly got her confidence in the feel of her. (especially as she gets on with the Iron) (I'm sort of assuming you could return things to stock when you want to) I'm with Kelly, I hate the cold too! Oh, and why anyone would watch this channel and not the daily vlog is a complete mystery to me??? Do yourselves a favour folks and check it out!
Maybe the only upgrade id want on it would be a larger gas tank. I know you would have to fill it a lot if you actually did some riding on it long distance.
@@renniesmith8073 even that's too small. You need a 6 gallon one for the long ones. My 500cc BMW had a 6 1/2 gallon one on it, and it wasnt a bit of overkill. I could ride from Menifee, California to Ventura without having to stop for fuel.
David Greve a 3.4 gallon tank will get you about 175 miles out of a tank. Believe me you will be ready to stop for a break by then. A 6 gallon tank would look ridiculous on a sportster. They do make a 4.5 gallon tank that was on the super low. But the iron tank keeps with the looks of the 48.
He stepped up to the plate and bought a Go-Pro #7!!! How cool is that?!! Its the special way he has it installed that sets it apart from other makes and other Go-Pros. No static. Crystal clear chatting! Great moving picture vlog! And he loves what he does!
What about trying your good lady on a triumph street twin. Real easy to ride and super fun. Not intimidating at all. Feet in the better position too for confidence. You could borrow it too as it’s a great little bike. That HD is too heavy......
I knew about the 48. It's a Special? How is that different from the regular 48? What is the difference in handling from the Iron since the 48 has a fatter tire up front?
The Special comes with taller bars and upright mirrors, plus a ton of chrome that the standard 48 doesn’t have. It’s hard to compare my older Iron to this 48 because of the advanced and highly superior front forks... The fat front tire is only noticeable in loose gravel or sand, as it floats instead of cutting-in. Otherwise, no advantage or disadvantage that I’ve found yet... Thanks Jeff!
I do watch both of your channels so yes sir I knew you had it. Just wondering if you will keep both if your wife tells you she doesn't want to ride the 48 anymore. We don't have any of that moss here in Houston tx. It amazes me that you can ride on it. I'd bust my ass at least once on it.
We've discussed the 48's future and decided that we both love it too much to part with it, regardless if she ends up with a Ryker... That moss is pretty crazy around here. It seems to almost appear over night when the rainy season starts. You need to go over it as if it's an icy patch... It can been fine, or cray slippery! You just don't want to find latter the hard way..! Lol Thanks Rodney!
Because the bikes always run perfect, with plenty of performance still and hold their highest resale value... When you mod out a bike, you'll always look back on it and remember the fondest times were when it was stock and the most reliable. If you have to change everything, you probably picked the wrong bike at the start..! On some bikes, small little tweaks are needed here and there, but that's fine... Thanks Carlos!

Good looking bike Shawn I like the 70s 80s graphics on it

Shawn, I think you might be UA-cam’s most likeable guy.
Thanks Paul!!
I'm with Kelly when it comes to riding in the cold. It didn't used to bother me but now that I'm older it makes me miserable. Hurry up Spring.

Love your sportster vlogs. The 48 is a beauty. I still love my old 883. I'll be happier once the snow, and cold are gone and I can ride her again..

Thanks for riding an affordable bike for a change!!! The other bikes are sharp but way out of my $$$ !!!
I think Kelly will have a blast with the Ryker...waiting to see Kelly try one. 👍 Cool looking bike.

Very nice bike, great lover of Harley's. Are you planning a trip at all?
Thanks Linda!! There is a trip in the works, I let you know as things get ironed out...
I forgot the name of her, but in your daily vlog you finally got to see & meet the dog that got the name "Hill of the Barking Dog".

David Greve that's a simple upgrade! The iron tank will swap on with minimal modifications

David Greve the 48 has a 2.1 gallon tank the iron a 3.4 gallon tank.

It’s a National Cycle Fly Screen...

I want a Harley but I also want it to be quiet. Do you have any insight on 2013-2017 Breakout or 2014-2017 Low Riders whether they're quiet or not?
Mikotiini just keep it stock!
All stock harleys are quiet. They sound like sewing machines to most people lol. You have to do a pipes upgrade to get more noise out of them.
Not as quiet as BMW but with stock pipes not really too loud. I keep my Harley’s
Your channel is great. Do you have any advise for me? I just started my own motovlog channel. Thank you and ride safe.
