    Ugh. My c5 is doing this. Discovered it yesterday. OH! A suction cup removes the center cap very nicely and prevents scratching.

  • @35057
    @35057 2 роки тому +1

    I’m sure you solved this by now but my c5 was making the same obnoxious clicking noise. I cleaned and dried the axle thread completely, lathered it with red locative and torqued it down to 160 ft lbs. let it sit overnight and let that locative set up. That seemed to have worked and it’s been about a year. Still good.

    Yea I changed the fluid and filter in the transmission and changed the diff fluid. Tighten all frame bolts, axle nuts , everything and mine still makes a noise shifting to drive or reverse. I may tear my transmission apart to see if there’s something wrong

  • @melvinfenner5440
    @melvinfenner5440 5 місяців тому

    This noise went away after I added extra "friction modifier" to the differential. The noise when I turn corners was gone after that but came back in about 1-1/2 years.

    I just bought a C6 Z06 from a doctor who babied the f out of it. Dude never even turn off tc, and I've notice this clunking sound too. It sounds to me like it's coming from the diff though. What about tightening the wheel stops mechanical noise, I wonder? I'll do this, but I doubt that's the noise I'm hearing from mine. However, it's brand new to me...so I could just not know the car that well too.

    Can the sway bar links be changed with the car's weight on the wheels or does the car have to be raised with the wheels off the ground?

    • @DirtydogMech

      It would probably help to raise it up a bit to take the weight of the bolt and nut.

    That fixed it! Thanks for the video! I've been looking for the source of that sound for *years*! Even took it to a dealership and they couldn't find it.
    Haynes manual suggests there is some kind of retainer on the 2012+. Maybe they found this problem and corrected it for 2012?

    • @DirtydogMech
      @DirtydogMech  4 роки тому

      Awesome I'm glad it worked. As far the retainer I dont anything about it. I just changed the fluid and I also threaded and tighten the old nut on top the new one just for safe measures. Over kill maybe but as least the new one is on

      I was reading on the forum where people have tightened used shafts 160 and then later the shaft snapped. Something about being stretched once when new and then after that 160 is too much. It’s probably all BS though.

    I've got a twin to your C6, mine is a 2007 Victory Red Base, and I have the Morimoto headlights too. I've been chasing a clunking sound for a year! Mine sounds like it's in the front end though... I can even feel the clunk when it happens. I've had the front leaf spring replaced, wheel hubs all four wheels, front upper control arms replaced, tie rod ends, brakes and calipers, ugh... Still clunks! The last shop I've had it too said they think it's the leaf spring in the front, which I already replaced. They think it was installed wrong... I'm having that checked out soon. I'm curious how loud was your clunk and did this resolve it? Thanks!

    • @DirtydogMech
      @DirtydogMech  3 роки тому

      My clunk wasn't not super loud but it was noticeable. Mostly when taking a turn and taking off. I'd check the front shocks for play at the top mount rubber , check your sway bar links and sway bar bushings check your motor mounts for leaks, check and make sure the subframe bolts and tight just check all bolts all over to make sure they're tight and check structure to see if there is any cracks in the fiber glass. I'm sorry I don't have a definitive answer or solution

    • @joshuacarnighan916
      @joshuacarnighan916 2 роки тому

      If you say you can feel the clunk it may be the sway bar end links. Cheap part. Had same issue on my 2006 base, felt and heard a clunk in front driver side and replaced the sway bar end link and it did the job. Common problem on these.

      @@DirtydogMechbro I having a howling sound and its clearly coming from the back. could it be the axle nuts? or the wheel bearings in the back wheels? it only starts at 35-65mph and it doesnt matter what gear I'm in so I'm confident it's not the tranny. you think I should check my axle nuts? do loose axle nuts make a little howling sound??

  • @idunnobouthat6632

    FY just cuz yeh read it on the internets doesn't make the information accurate. Get the real specs from a real manual. A torque wrench is NOT a ratchet. Get it snug tight with a breaker bar & THEN use the Torque wrench to turn the fastner about a 1/2 turn if you know what your doing to arrive at spec.
