You didn’t get scammed. The price sounds right for reserved seats. You can get cheaper tickets that are not reserved, but then you’ll have to be in line till you find a train that has available seats or basically be standing till someone gets off and you take that seat. There are great online offers and packaged deals, so maybe try buying online next time:) Or you can get a JR pass. It’s worth it if you are traveling a lot in Japan.
We really fell in love with Nara so every trip Japan, we will be buying a JR Rail card to make the Nara trip more affordable
@@unknownvlogs yeah, you did not get scammed. The worker did not scam you. That’s the going rate for the Shinkansen to Kyoto or Osaka from Tokyo for reserved seats. It’s even a bit more for the Green car, which is like Business class, but totally worth it imo. Also, you should’ve picked window seats for view if you’re buying reserved seats.
As far as food, they stopped the concession carts recently, but most people buy Ekiben at the station, which are like bento boxes of various foods of your choosing so you can eat it on the Shinkansen. Some really quality stuff for about $6-$12.

On our recent trip in February, the shinkansen tickets from Tokyo to Kyoto were roughly ~115,000 japanese yen one way so yup definitely makes sense. bummer that the JR rail pass took such a huge price hike or else it would have gave them so many more day trip opportunities.
Good to know! When we left Nara for Tokyo, we had someone help us understand the cost and why. I feel stupid watching it back because it’s so easy to travel 😂 I blame my 3 hour sleep
@@henlolneh 115000 (about $1000) would be an absolute scam for that distance! Unless it’s a total for a large group! 😅 The average price is 14,000~15,000, and 18,000 for first class.
The reason why the bullet train costs that much is because you are travelling across the country... Get plane tickets and go through the hassle of checking in etc. and pay similar price if not more.. But for the bullet train you just sit tight and you are there in a couple hours.. The price is right too.

Shinkansen is pretty expensive and 150£ for two people to Kyorto is average price I have to say.

Fun fact: slurping noodles is not viewed as bad in Japan (in most instances) :P
Also, sometimes you can find bins in convenience stores :D

If guys have a chance to visit Kyoto, I highly recommend visiting a bar called Bee’s Knees!
PS If you want to buy in the UK look at a place called Barton. It's gorgeous, quaint and they have natural springs. Good place to live

Why are you disrespecting the slurping? That's literally how they eat noodles over there. Don't be one of "those" travellers. Slurping in Japan is a sign of appreciation, and shows how much you're enjoying the food. It's encouraged.
That's their normal way of eating noodles and it's a compliment to them meaning that the food is delicious! Try to eat it that way and you might find liking it~

I’m loving these videos! I really felt for you guys when you were getting the tickets! 😢I often use the machines cos you can take your time and check the prices yourself. Also the bullet trains offer a cheaper kind of ticket but without reserved seating, which means there is a choice of limited free seating but it’s first come first serve (otherwise u left standing 😂) hope you guys enjoy your trip !
