YAYAYAYAY Axe can pull off the intro now! Remember the time they played this song live and he could hardly keep up for a minute ? That was when Mendez had really short hair.
+Jonah Bazan Me too. I used to only listen to Dirge for November's first 2 minutes. One day, i took a chance and decided to listen to the rest of the song. I've been listening to Opeth ever since.
I'm always amazed at how natural Opeth makes transitioning into cleaner vocals, and melodies, then straight back into the more metal sounds. Also Mikael's humor is drier than the damn desert, and its amazing.
Hahahahaha he is so funny! "Don't blame me, I'm just a clockmaker from Swede" and how he makes everyone do headbangs without music and saying "That looks pretty stupid up here" hahahahahahaha
LOL, I was surprised! My first time to see and hear the band, I was just curious checking out a PRS SE model named for him, found this link.. saw this dude that looks like a Bee Gees & Abba singer, I thought he'll just do some modern alternatives, and then the rest is history. Awesome band, tight riffs.
First song I ever heard from opeth, I was standing amongst the food dealers trying to eat my burger, I was wearing a slayer shirt and every two seconds some one would scream "SLAYERR!!" at me and so, naturally I had to respond, meanwhile I hear this insane double bass and riff in the background of the slayer offs, turn round and head for the stage it was coming from and I was stunned, ever since 2011 I've sweated all the older album's almost daily 🤣
Lopez had style and was such a smoother drummer..Axe has a hard time replicating anything that Lopez did..you can hear it in any song that Axe plays that was originally done by Lopez. I remember I saw them in concert shortly after Lopez left the band, and Axe was struggling big time...he has gotten a lot better over the years, but I don't think anyone can play Lopez's beats like Lopez. He is on an entirely different level.
Opeth songs feel incomplete without Lopez infectious jazz sections... Every song was so atmospheric with mikael and his dynamic and change ups. Lopez was the soul of Opeth, driving 10 minute songs.. now it’s just technical dribble with a feel of branded expression. Like cradle of filth without Nick barker.
I can't figure opeth out. I hear they're metal, so I go explore their music and it's opeth. Idk. Maybe my brain is too smooth for their music. I'll come back when I have more neuronal connections
he still has good mid-highs, his lows are just...yeah...awkward to listen to, but at least he can do it and still does it,even if its like for one song nowadays
It's pretty simple....if you are a real artist, you can only write and play what you are feeling. He doesn't "feel" the anger, etc, needed to be honest doing Death metal anymore. I'd rather him channel his creativity where his heart is and be true to himself as an artist, than to be just cranking out the same recycled shite the fans want, like Slayer. From there, it's up to the fan to decide if they want to walk that journey with the artist or not. It's that or risk becoming a "greatest hits band" like Maiden almost did.
" The fan to decide if ' they ' want to walk " and so on and so forth is incorrect sir. A fan is one person and would therefore not be referred to as " they ." You are obviously too much of a dolt to comprehend that your pronoun usage is erroneous.
what a fucking performance i can't believe how much i dislike death metal in general but i'd give anything to hear akerfeldt growl and sing to me all day
Just found this band by listening to "Sorceress".... now he is growly voicing... not my cup of tea... but the music is great. When he sings normally his voice reminds me of Todd Rungren and I like Todd Rungren.
The mix isn't focused on the kick drums enough, they just sound like a costant bass note throughout the whole song. The attack should be a top priority, especially when the kicks are so fast
and yet his growl is still more appealing than any treble overshadowed growl i have heard in my like decade of listen to this music. not to mention his actual singing voice paired with his musical writing brilliance just destroys everything ever known to death metal and prog.
I love how even though his vocals are damaged from growling for almost 30 years, He still tries his hardest to do the growls as best as possible for everybody even if it hurts his vocals, I'm a gen z (Born 25th of December, 2005, I'm 15 as of rn) and I love them so much, I'm so sad that I was never into their music until now, I was only 11 when one of the guitarists (?) left and it saddens me that I'll never get to see them perform live, Same as Metallica,, But I love both bands music, I'm gonna wait for two bands to come out, As good as Opeth and Metallica, To be the next them, To be as good as they were, Opeth and Metallica will forever be a legacy
It never ceases to amaze me how Mikael can go from the most diabolical of growls to the cleanest and prettiest vocals in one single song, yet both are so fitting.
It's such an unfortunate shame that my mother Margaret Ann Stout Ford Pickett of Pickett Educational Resources does not love me. I graduated Valedictorian of Mclean School of Potomac Maryland , yet my mother would not want to include me. I was accepted into the University of Delaware at the age of 17 while my brother only had the option of completing Community College just to get into the University of Maryland !! Yet my mother wanted to only include my brother Dwayne Webster Pickett , and not include me. I will never have any contact with either one of them EVER again. All they do is insult me and put me down. They were abusive to me and my brother and my mother would not care in the slightest if I dropped dead right this second. I am permanently out of their lives , which should result in the 2 of them being overjoyed !!
My daughter Oriana Amber McGee permanently out of my life as well. When I spoke French in front of my daughter Oriana Amber McGee at my parent's former residence in Ford's Colony ( Williamsburg , Va.) ....my daughter accused me of " showing off ." Even though I majored in French while attending the University of Delaware. I must not speak French in the presence of my daughter Oriana Amber McGee as I would be " showing off ." I must be silent and allow her to speak French which apparently she believes would not be considered " showing off " for her to speak French...only me. I will never have any contact with her EVER again. She was abusive to me and does not love me.
The others would hold me responsible and blame me for the way that THEY feel. They would have me believe that perhaps I should be ashamed of myself if I am beautiful , intelligent , and talented. I am not ashamed and I will not make myself look ugly just so others can feel better about their appearances. I will not apologize for being gifted and beautiful.
It's too bad that I am not allowed to speak French. Especially since I was considering becoming a translator. I would only make others feel badly because they do not understand the grammar or speak the language as well I as I do.

@@marwanmohamed877 i have listened to it, and honestly the original sounds better. The remaster has some definite clipping in a lot of areas. The remaster feels way too bass heavy and lacks a lot of dynamic range. Everything feels too loud all of the time.

Hahaha this happened to me, when I first discovered Opeth someone showed me Hope Leaves and Demon of the Fall and the heaviest band I probably listened to at the time was probably Tool. That was many many years ago now and Opeth's one of my favorites. Eric's suggestions are all great starters but you should really just dive into their discography hardcore.

ghost reveries is definately an album to look into! if you want songs that are 'rough and mellow' then check out porcelain heart, ghost of perdition, Birge for november, bleak, I find opeth very similar to tool. Tool and opeth are in my top 5 bands of all time. The more you listen to them the more youll start to like their music.
I luckily Saw them 6 years ago when they were still making great music and not the super soft stuff. Not saying it's bad music, but old Opeth is wayyy better.
Before, I just knew that this band existed. The opening monolougue made me a fan.
Actually his higher growls are still quite good, he only seems to have lost his lower voiced grunt
I believe he just uses a different technique live for the low growls, one that isn’t so harsh on his vocals
YAYAYAYAY Axe can pull off the intro now! Remember the time they played this song live and he could hardly keep up for a minute ? That was when Mendez had really short hair.
awesome band !!!!
These guys are fucking great!!1
Bueno!, pero Martin Lopez complementaba una mejor bateria...
Opeth was the metal band that got me into growly vocals cause their music is so beast.

Berly Tannyono Putra Me neither
