Dustin has been one of the best people I’ve known in my life. He brought love and laughter wherever he went. This world was a better place because he was in it. He gave people help and courage to be the best of themselves. I’ll always be grateful and blessed because you were my friend in this life. Rest in peace Dustin. You are so missed by all of us.

Not interested in his weight. He's a great speaker, a great communicator. And, by the way, for those of you who have issues with his weight - do you think it's easy for him to stand up in front of a crowd, knowing that at least half of them are going to judge him just the way you do? If you spent one day at that weight, would you have the guts to stand up and speak like that? No, you wouldn't. So pipe down and give the man the kudos he's earned.

He is currently Director of one of the largest VA hospitals in Southern California. His hospital has over 2,200 full time employees and is the care provider for more than 50,000 Veterans....so much for his leadership qualities, right. He has been in that position for more than 2 years and is looking at a promotion. He is a "kick in the ass" to be around and can bring a room to tears with his adventures from the Deep South. Most importantly, he does not give a shit what others think about him......but I do....I am his friend. Its an honor to call Dustin my friend.

I never understood the summertime twice a day practices either. I too, lived so far out from the nearby town, my dad would just drop me off in the morning and pick me up that night - no sense in burning an entire tank of gas driving there & back twice…ate at the local circle K and slept at the football stadium between practices. Luckily this regimen only went on for a month (preseason). If anything, the pain of over exhaustion put the scare in all of us to be ready when the season kicked off. Purely a mental exercise…

How funny! As a Texas mom, I was laughing m head off.
My background: One of four girls raised in the northeast by mild-mannered, scholarly parents. They never watched a football game until they had sons-in-law. I married a lifelong Cowboys fan. We moved to Texas and raised our sons here. They both played football. Their opponents in peewee football became their teammates in middle school. Those opponents became their teammates in high school. Those opponents became teammates in college. When hurricanes and wildfires hit, everyone is on the same team. Whenever leaders and followers are needed in school, work, community or anywhere, they know how to pitch in effectively. The strength, skills, team spirit, doing your best in your role, respecting the leadership, and playing through pain and exhaustion until the job is done are values that serve them at deeper levels as they grow older.
Am I saying football is the only path to these outcomes? No, but it’s a good one.

I am reminded of my father. My dad states very clearly that he was born with no academic aptitude, athletic talent, or any kind of artistic ability. But he is a nice, friendly, philosophical guy who had this innate wisdom. He is a mailman who charmed and married an attractive, fun-loving orthopedic surgeon. Talk to my dad and it takes about two minutes to see how he captured my mom.
