Good review. But from my experience, the best clam is the clamp you have at that point in time..... You gotta get the job done, so you use what you have. Later you think, maybe a different clamp would be better. Then you look at the cost.... and you start to think... well... what I had worked..... why not just keep using that. So..... Clamping is complicated. 🙂
Oh thank you Roger! Thank you Dan! That's some good ad vise 🤣 Never heard of a joist clamp (but that doesn't mean much!) and it looks very useful. You really live and learn on this channel! It looks like Bessey for me, but I'm going to keep an eye on Ebay and car boot sales for some of those older ones too. That old one where you fix two small units to a batten to make really long sash clamp is genius! Cheers chaps!
ha and ive got only one of those flooring clamps.... got lucky on ebay for that one. i need another to make it work better. currently have to mess about with blocks and wedges on one side and the clamp on the other side
I must admit on some of your dans roofing vids I can’t believe how many clamps he pulls out of the van. Lol he’s starting to look natural on the camera though 👍
I have a couple of Irwin's. They're good as an occasional third hand or for holding a glue overnight. I'm sure there are better clamps, but not much need for them.
I'm a Bessey fan too. I always appreciate seeing Dan in a video, he has a nice way with him, he's knowledgeable and laid back. He's the sort of guy I would love (in the enjoy sense, not physical!) and trust, to do work for me. What a nice fellow.
ive had exactly the same problem with the pair of larger irwin clamps i carry on my van. clamp the end panels on and they seem to move by a couple of mm. does my head in
I've had the mickey taken out of me for the amount of clamps I've got but they all have their uses. Some just don't fit in where you want them or the clamping actuator gets in the way of something. Bessey are by far one of the best.
I have a few of the long bessey clamps that Dan shows at the end, and I'm not a fan at all. Very unwieldy, and as Dan mentions glue can be a nightmare on them. If I'm so out of parallel that I need the clamping power that they provide then I've done something wrong. Pipe clamps, aluminium clamps, or the wooden ones that Dan shows are much better for most applications I find. I should really sell my bessey ones! I do like their other clamps of course.
@@SkillBuilder even after my terrible review/worst sales pitch ever? I have four of them. They're about 7-8 years old, but I don't think the design has changed (they look the same as Dan's). If you're interested, I'll send some photos through to the skill builder email. Might be next week as I'm not at home at the minute.
Use Bessey one handers for quick clamping but still use my 50 year old record g clamps (made in England) regularly for glue ups. Bessey K body clamps are great for large glue ups.
A couple of things Daniel could take to antiques roadshow there, no, not you roger, not just yet anyway😅 I nearly bought some Irwin ones today, glad I didn't now, thanks, very interesting.
I have a set of cheap slide bar clamps from ebay. One is already slipping. Rather than chuck it away I drilled a series of holes and use a nail through the relevant hole as a 'stop'.
I have arthritis in my hands and recently I was using an Irwin clamp and using my right hand only the handle snapped. I think I will have to invest in some Bessy clamps
Forsner clamp very popular with us welders as it works on leverage rather than tightness, realy good clamp to have. And sash clamps for assembling large jobs.
Nah never where a good design cox brand or not. Woden f clamp or a good old record sash or g clamp when the real joinery work has to be done. Irwin quick grips for quick jobs just to hold in place .
@@jamesdrennan890 apples to oranges most of those my man. A G clamp and a quick clamp. I have alot of the older Irwin heavy duty quick clamps before the pad design was changed and made cheaper/crapper. They are good, but for a six inch quick clamp I see better accuracy out of Cox. Zee Germans and those small Bessey clamps look very good/accurate though.
I got some from there a good few years ago I can't remember the make but they've been excellent, the guy from the Joinery place that I use had a look at them and he was impressed
Bessey make the best clamps and Yorkshire puddings 😅
Great combination Mark, clamps and puds. 😮
a member of Clampaholics Anonymous.. hes trying to keep it together
We've all got to stick together.
Bowtz
We missed that one
Nice👍
Get a grip
I didn't have experience with Bessey clamps, but Irwin Quick-grip XP is awesome! And they also have many interesting attachments!
Good review.

Dan really does take clamping seriously, and I agree that Bessey are about as good as it gets👊Thanks for the video guys🤩
Oh yes Del. 😮
👊🏻
Thanks for watching 🤩
Bessey for the win 👍
Bessey clamps are the best, i have plenty of them but plan on buying more. One can never have too many clamps, 👍😁🔨🌲🇮🇪
Great clamp run down Dan! Got some Bessey F-clamps at the same tool show and I’m loving the ratchet action! 💯😍

Bessy clamps all day long.
I work on my own alot and clamps are a god send
Spend a fortune on the irwin ones but the Bessy ones I have are better.
Gripping stuff chaps 🤣🧱👍🏼

Probably got a few more clamps hiding somewhere..
Thanks ! 🙏

My Irwin clamps move the end panel il try the Bessey ones thanks
Used air wins for years for the router and holding units together! Never had a problem!
Thanks Dan & Roger, love that big old sash clamp, not come across one like that, surprised you never mentioned pipe clamps, great vid thanks
Great video, many thanks
Clamps are definetly my best friend as well guys, I use the so many different clamps in the workshop and on site.

Can never have enough clamps.
Can never have enough clamps , looks like I'm going to add to mine now ! Cheers .
And when I do a big glue up, all the clamps are pressed into service!
Thank you, Jed Clampett.
Bessey clamps still best in the business, one of the few tools left that live up to the hype.
“You can give it some proper welly” … love it 🤣😂
Great run down of clamps guys 👍
Thanks Tyler.
keep up the good videos 👍
No Carver clamps though :(
Love a bit of vice information👌
Standard WD40 is not a lubricant!

Have you ever used [carver clamps ] really heavy duty last a lifetim. I wouldn't say cheap but probably the best clamp you can get

Idea for a short. Bessie clamp v Irwin pushing down on a scale
9:05 Look very similar to ones I got at Lidls a few months ago, was so impressed with them over previous Lidls clamps.

2:30 I had a Wolfecraft one like that, didn't like it
Cox, Solo clamp.
Still Made In Britain. 🇬🇧
Possibly the worst clamp ever they should stick to the mastic guns

Axminster sell what seems like an aluminium version of the plastic Bessie ones. Has Dan tried those?
Yes I have! The one I bought had a spring in one of the clamp pads. It was a good clamp and I still use it, however the spring part is now broken…
Elly May. Gets my vote then Granny and her vidles.
