I feel ya. I stumbled across Kyle and Freehand knife sharpening while falling down the rabbit hole he also inspired me to buy a set of whetstones. I got the combo set at first and after more watching i elected to buy proper whetstones. I have a Naniwa 1000 grit on the way now.

Thank you Kyle for the very informative information on this set of these shapeni ng stones. I am just beginning to work with leather. This was very informative.

I have stones of this type and have found them to be much more trouble than they are worth. I can sharpen all of my outside bevels much easier on flat stones and manage the inside burrs with slipstones or abrasive paper. You can use the non-contoured faces of the stones so they aren't a complete waste. The real magic happens with stropping so don't neglect that step including the inner surfaces.

Very nice video. I just ordered the curved stones and am very hopeful they will sharpen well. I use pheil knives for wood carving.

Great information. Would the same apply for wood lathe gouges?

I think I would have better luck using these to sharpen a gouge than a flat stone. Nice review.

I have a Suehiro set of three similar stones, grits are 280 - 1000 - 3000. If they come from the same factory, that first stone might be 280 indeed.

Kyle How do you go about removing the burr that will form on the inside?

you need a slip stone or a matching dowel with abrasive.

If you flip it over, would it work as a normal stone too?

I really like them !! I have quite a few of the leather end punches that would work on . What do you think it would do for round punches and edge bevelers ? Thanks for your input and time . Great video Kyle!! Thanks again for posting another great video!! Take care and stay safe my friend !

Just not worth the expense or trouble. You can get exactly the same result with your flat stones or different grit wet and dry sandpaper. Looks like a commercial to me.

Yes, I wouldn't invest in them. But Kyle runs a business with these tools so I imagine it could save time having these around.
