Some countries honour the elderly. Sad the way some elderly parents are discarded. Great movie. Made me sad in the beginning but ended beautifully!

Nearly a hundred years ago. We get a window on the time from a perfect little film. What a warnhearted main character...the little man who made this country proud of it's immigrant.

Wonderful movie! Reminds me of my immigrant relatives in NY way back then. How they loved becoming citizens! So sad what has happened to immigration in America...and detrimental that the goal is less about becoming a proud American.

😢😊❤ An amazing film. Never seen b4. Enjoyed immensely! Hits all emotions. A keeper 4 re-watching a great movie & well done 4 early 1930's movie.😁. The fathers love & truth abt happiness n life means honest generosity. N the end it's not how much stuff as how many memories. Thx Pizzaflix!

It had its highest viewership during the deep part of the great depression. Social security was a new idea, to keep the elderly out of the Hoover camps. Hollywood was fully onboard.

I came 2 c Natalie Moorhead, the blond wife of the oldest son. She always plays the bad-hearted woman. She had a small part here, but lived up to her reputation, though she did fill the pipe at the end. Ha! Good ol' Natalie! Check her out!

so, what was it? drama? comedy?
somehow mixture of both, but very lite mixture.
there is something nice about Lee Kohlmar's acting, something nice about his silly voice/speaking, something nice about his silly facial expressions, something nice about his (extremely) lite jokes, but in general, the all 'business' is very calm, very peaceful, too much 'friendly'. it seems that the expression 'let's-go-haywire' was out of question for the director. the total amount of all components of the film is JUST TOO LITE, no 'drive' at all, no 'push', no 'kick ass', just a nice story but not really exciting and not really memorable. kind of 'bubblegum' film. I think the 'elderly' viewers more than 50 years old would find it a great movie and the 'youngsters' under 30 would find it a lousy film. the 'truth' lies somewhere in the middle, 64/100 ;-)
