Those countries are now clamping down on lack of respect for local and International Laws.
There should be other alternatives, why is starlink the end all be all? It's like we're losing out on something. If SA can't support and put money in it's own citizens to develop these things then go for Chinese companies. Too many options.

I see a lot of commentators are focusing on the BEE with so much negative emphasis that kind of makes a regular citizen a bit angry, but we need to go by the rules and regulations. We are a sovereign state.

As long as the local companies get to the rural bits eventually, this will be used only as a stepping stone. But, the reason we don't have fiber there yet, IS the government. See the last 30 years for context. Bloemfontein, where Telkom's head exchange is, already had fiber optic telecommunications in the early 90s...

For those judging SA go and look at how long India blocked star link, it was for 3yrs. It was only offered to be active from this month in April. They told them they need to work with local companies or they won’t exist at all. In the end you need to protect local businesses no matter what. Look at what Temu which was launched this year February in SA and now it’s April but it’s driving local businesses crazy. Regulations need to protect the public and the country overall.
Local businesses has obviously not helped so far. If they have their own rockets etc go ahead. I’d say it’s just a way to keep the traditional system going, on cost of people across SA that relies on this for stable internet access with greatly promotes education and economy
