    RULES:
    The object of the game is to be the first player to play all the cards in their stockpile. Shuffle the deck and deal each player 30 face down cards for 2 to 4 players, or 20 cards for 5 or more players. Players do not look at these cards but instead keep them facedown as their stock pile. Everyone flips over the top card of their stock and places it on top. Place the remainder of the deck facedown as a draw deck.
    In the center of the table are 4 building piles you can place cards. Each building pile must start with a 1 then increase sequentially to 12. When a building pile reaches 12, you remove it and set it aside and a new empty building pile takes its place. In front of each player are 4 discard piles. Your discard piles will slowly collect cards as you play.
    The youngest player goes first, then play proceeds clockwise. On your turn, draw cards from the draw deck until you have five cards in your hand. Then, play cards from your hand, discard piles, or the top of your stock until to the middle building piles however you like if you are able. To end your turn, discard 1 card to any of your 4 discard piles. You do not need to discard sequentially, however, when playing cards from your discard piles to the budling piles, you may only play the topmost card. Cards in your stockpile may never be discarded, they may only be played to the building piles.
    If, during your turn, you manage to play all 5 cards in your hand, then you immediately draw 5 new cards and continue your turn. If you end your turn by discarding your final card, then your turn still ends and you do not draw to 5 and continue playing. If the draw deck runs out of cards, then shuffle all the set aside completed building piles into a new draw deck.
    A skip-bo is a wild that can represent any number. You are allowed to start a new building pile with a skip-bo. The first player to get rid of all the cards in their stock pile wins. To play for points, the winner of each round scores 5 points for every card remaining in all their opponent’s stock piles plus 25 points for going out. The first player to 500 points, wins!

    I got recommended your old Dominion video just now, and decided to watch it to finally learn to play Dominion in a clear, concise manner. That video was uploaded nine years ago, and then I noticed this one was uploaded just today. New studio, a little bit older, but still that iconic calm tone and measured cadence that I've grown to love so much. Thank you for having done these videos for so long! You and Rodney Smith from Watch it Played are my all time favorite people to learn tabletop games from!

    My family and I are obsessed with this game, so much fun once you get the hang of it! We played a 4-player game last night and it was a a blast (I didn't win but only had one card left in my stockpile card so it was an intense ending to the game!). Our family does NOT follow the "youngest player goes first" rule as that would just let me go first every game which isn't fair so we allow the player that has the highest card in their stockpile go first since it can be disadvantage starting the game with a higher number (especially a 12!).

    When I was a kid, my nana taught me a similar game called Sputnik. It was basically the same game as Skip-Bo, but her draw pile was comically huge. This ensured we never ran out of cards, but we also needed rubber bands to hold it together.

      That's awesome! And funny that you mentioned that because we keep saying we should buy a second Skip-Bo deck so we never have to reshuffle the deck in the middle of games 😂

    the numbers in the point game (5, 25, 500) a gcd of 5, so you can downscale everything
    you could score 1 for every card, 5 for going out, and play until 100

      @@Nbrother1234Then again, there's also the perception of bigger numbers sometimes being less fiddly to work with than smaller numbers.
      For example, consider monopoly money, but the smallest increment is 5 instead of 1 (and all prices are in increments of 5). Not sure how to put it into words, but there's just something about having increments of 5 (not 1) that kinda makes tallying your amounts of things appear much easier and feel more satisfying than increments of 1.

    It shouldn't be the youngest player that goes first but whoever has the highest card on their deck.

    • @gfrewqpoiu
      @gfrewqpoiu 7 місяців тому

      That is how we usually play it. It makes it so the player that has the least chance to get started with their deck at least has the consolation prize of going first. If there is a tie, the tied players draw a card from the draw pile, the higher number wins.
      During this process, Skip-Bo cards count like a 0, so they never allow you to go first.
      I have also heard of two variations that we usually don't play with:
      1. Skip Bo's may not be laid onto another Skip Bo (so you can't go 4, 5, SB, SB, 8)
      2. Skip Bo's on an empty space count as any number you want, not just as a 1.

    • @hankwheels
      @hankwheels 4 місяці тому

      That's exactly how we play it!! Our group is typically always the same so since I'm the youngest I would just go first every game which is NOT fair. So we play whoever has the highest stockpile card at the start of the game gets to go first. Works so much better.
