did anyone else see the line where we could win that game when they were at 10. Give the death toucher the pump spell since it also gives trample, pump it even more with landfall and then they either lose all their board or go to four and the next turn we'd have killed them with skoa.
I said in another comments thread that I think the reach is what actually breaks it in draft. Because then other colors like white, black, and blue, who have strong flying creatures, can't even go over it.
i have no idea why they decided the chrysalis was appropriate as a common. it would be busted at uncommon, but at least it would be rarer - as a common its just stupid. at least eventually it will be so heavily prioritized by a lot of people that various shades of GR(U) decks will suffer from lower card quality as people try to force the best decks
I also just realized that for some reason this time white isn't the color that is very good at spamming tons of tiny creatures and tokens, even though that's usually a big part of its color identity. Eldrazi-token spam is just a lot more effective and more prevalent in green and blue.
I know everyone's focused on Chrys, but I'm surprised not to find other comments on this: In the last game Suppression Ray didn't work the way its supposed to. You can't stun a creature that was already tapped, so the Skoa shouldn't have gotten stunned and you should have won. Both the release notes for MH3 and the rulings on gatherer state that the spell only let's you stun creatures that the spell tapped. Skoa was already tapped from attacking on you turn.
This is going to be a great video to watch 3 years from now when they announce Modern Horizon's 4 and we get flashbacks of Writhing Chrysalis. Absolutely hilarious that they stuffed TOO MUCH value on a common.
Yeah, I hope it doesnt end up warping the format too much around it. Im not very hopeful though. I genuinely don't understand how this got through testing.
Not that it needs the extra support, but curving Fanatic of Rhonas into Writhing Chrysalis sets you up with 9 mana on T4 even before making a fourth land drop. I'm not ready to call it a mistake but *crikey* it felt broken.
gotta be honest most of these games were not particularly interesting, I highly doubt this set is gonna be an all timer there are so many mechanics and pockets of synergy in this set, but what good does it do when a 4 mana 4/5 that ramps you (and has reach) is at common and better than most rares?
I know i have a very small sample size, but this looks a lot like a 'lets draft en route of my first 2 pi... ohw never mind Eldrazi might be open" ... :/
one of those stupid card where they literally amp up every dial on a card. chrysalis probably should have read (at common at least) +1 until end of turn
It's just every aspect of the card is pushed like 1 level to make it busted. If it didn't have reach, if it had 2 toughness, if it just made 1 spawn, if it only got +1/+1 until end of turn, if it cost 5 mana. Any of these probably would have made it very good but not stupid busted.
@@magicmeff1442 at least in arena. MH is supposed to be a draft set first with modern plants second. Plus limited is much easier to test than constructed. It's embarrassing that it ever made it out of r&d like that.
at ~40:00 is it not better to signature slam the phelia? the chrysalis and nadu being separate modified creatures means it hits twice, to break the shield counter and then kill phelia right?
im not sure, but i do think the creatures deal the damage at the same time, which means it gets all the damage, removing the shield, and then it survives.
I heavily suspect they made the bombs even bombier in this format, not just 'cause Commander Horizons, but because they knew it was going on Arena, and they didn't want inexperienced players to just never be able to win against better ones. Except the experienced players will still win with the busted commons and their deck just generally being better drafted, and the uber-bombs just ruin the games between experienced players, which was originally supposed to be the whole point of Modern Horizons in the first place...
I had a couple long games recently that my opponent said were "boring" because we had lots of removal and life gain. Apparently instakilling people with Eldrazi ETB is fun but actual interactive gameplay is boring
@@wesleydolsen some people play the game because they like competing at games, some people play the game because they think its fun when cool shit happens XD Magic offers a lot of different experiences!
@@minasparker1421 but is a card cool if most of the text never really becomes relevant? I haven't seen someone cast an Eldrazi titan and actually attack with it because it's an insta scoop for the opponent, that's boring to me. It may as well say 10 mana: you win
I think the only way to beat chrysalis is to outsynergize it. I’ve been brewing energy decks with the guy that gives exalted that has given me the way to attack past chrys.
So if you had a draft that went totally insane, do you think you would run 10 of Chrys? I feel like you could go 24-0 in draft queue like that. Glimpse the Impossible? No, Glimpse the Chrys!
Crys is amazingly strong with anything that creates spawn tokens, buffs spawn tokens, ramps with spawn tokens, has colorless in mana cost, .... Honestly would be easily fixed by either just upshifting the rarity to reflect the bomb it is, or making it 0, sac an eldrazi: gain a +1/+1 counter so it doesn't grow stupidly big without consuming resources while still being very strong
I won't deny that chrys is a stupid card for a common, but I just played 4 of my 7 matches against r/g and destroyed them all. I think you are still right about synergy mattering a lot in the set. Forcing the best color combo and cards doesn't always work. Also chrys does die to spot removal and I think the black decks are heavily underrated and drafted
feel you on the chrysalis, insanely busted got my first ever trophy (not many opportunities cause i do ftp and am bad) the other night by just taking 3 of them, a couple altisaurs, and a dreadmask and could not believe how hard these things cracked heads even against opponents that had clearly drafted with more intention
The guy with 4 chrysalises in a row... what a beating!

He said that but he didn't have the land for landfall
You were supposed to bring balance to the win rates, not leave them in darkness!
Malevolent rumble being up there in the numbers makes sense, since it curves into and finds Chrys
Or picks up the colour/third land you were missing for the T3 Chrys. It's an absurd bit of smoothing.
I like how the cherry on top is that the thing has reach. Was reach REALLY necessary?
I said in another comments thread that I think the reach is what actually breaks it in draft. Because then other colors like white, black, and blue, who have strong flying creatures, can't even go over it.
That guy who just scooped at 24 life after you dropped a third Chrys...

Hahaha, the opponent ending game with 4 Chris and titans vanguard as his 5 creatures in graveyard.
I loved the consigned exhale of defeat after being 'only' able to color fix, and put out Nadu turn 3 on the play
I didn't watched the video yet but I have to agree with the title. Crys is absurd!

Crysalis, ruiner of happiness.

If it said "sac an eldrazi: " instead of "whenever you sacrifice an eldrazi"
52:47 format defining and hilarious 😂🎉😅
Everybody hates Chrys!
WOTC should legit ban the card in limited.
I for one love chrys

Win or lose. Wizards just wants it to go fast so you can pay for another draft. Here you go, common bombs.
Yeah, set feels already dull after 2-3 drafts. No reasons to spend money on this
Pick 8 chrysalis is not okay 😂

12:25 nadu over the bg double counters guy for this deck ?
Thanks for letting us know that the Chrysalis is stupid. "Stupid" count: 33.
I once drafted 3 Molten Gatekeepers with 3 Chrises and all I can say is they work well. I didn't even need to swing much at most games.

Commenting for Nummys benefit 👍
This draft also had a really sweet UR energy deck, but you 1000% made the right choice to be in RG
Chrysalis is next level, i've 4 in my current draft, and i wonder why ppl keep passing it

8 rumble 20 Chrys and that's the deck :P
Is Crys only good with itself or is it good for ramping to certain big things?
It does both very good. Usually your fatties your ramping into make their own spawn
both
To continue, both; that's what makes it so OP.

Will it be this bonkers in pauper?
no its just too slow
and it has reach
just as i typed this econds later 32:20
I guess boardwipes can get you right back into the game against chris
Definitely could have had a good jeskai energy deck, aether revolt is insane.
Red Green is probably the best colour pair due to the broken Chrys...?

haha same comment, wonder if he runs drafts between SF matches
I didn't realise they had bot draft already for MH3
You said you were concerned about the format, what did you mean by that?
If a common is so game warping, it’ll get old really fast either winning with it or losing to it.
Back to OTJ?
Never seen common to be the best card in the set.
he beat gootecks ? im poggin' over here
Consign to Memory pick rate is about to rise.
What's the big deal? it's just a common mythic :)
Don’t sleep on the Gatekeeper with all the scion generation.
writhing sisters rise up
I´ve spent 4000 gems on this format and im done - worst format in a very long time.
Format is great, but it certainly is quite powerful. Everyone got the opportunity for big comebacks and tempo swings. Also LMAO at the bots
big fail it should be an uncommon...o well format sucks
This set just got much less fun due to this stupid card sadly.
MH2 got such fantastic limited experience that I was expecting similar for mh3😢
this format seems kind of dumb
oops wizards made another bad format
This format is the worst in years.
Yep, looks super boring

Gee, i wonder if having 1000s of viewers who can freely join your draft and dodge your colors has a large impact on your decks?
