    I've been trying for a while to do this and your video REALLY cleared up several things for me. MUCH appreciated Horace.

    I know this is an old video but I watched it today as recently got this game for my two youngest boys. I followed it as close as I could and made my own Thomas themed map for them! Thank you for the advice as it really helped.

    Great Video! I hope this helps spread this approach to the hobby to a wider audience of model railroad enthusiasts.

    Might get this as a substitute for a real set, don't have the space at home sadly.

      TANE can be decidedly much less expensive than building a real MODEL RR. You can build your own small, in your scale, community, or a period Santa Fe route from L.A. to Chicago. Depending on the power of your P.C, of course.

    Could you do a tutorial on how to set up industries and how to get them to work properly? Thanks this tutorial was great. I want more of them from you!

      @@horacefithers6146 Uh oh lol. Well maybe you could make some videos of you figuring it out. We could all learn together. It'd be fun watching you fool around trying to get it, and watching you make mistakes would show us what not to do lmao. Just a thought. I'll watch whatever you do out out though!

      Zack Bobby The multiple industries that Jointed Rail makes simplifies it. It does take a little trial and error though, lol.

    Hey Horace, I'm thinking of getting trainz 2019. In your video it shows you speeding up in areas. I've also seen that in Approach Mediums videos as well. I'm curious for something you built here how long does something like this take to actually build? obviously the better you get the faster you would be. I'm just on the bubble right now

    • @wizardofodds8239
      @wizardofodds8239 2 роки тому

      I'm not Horace, but. The length of time it takes to build a "layout" on your computer screen depends on how important it is to you. Detailed, or Slap&Dash! The most time I spent was Learning how to use TrainZ software. TrainZ documentation is sparse, so it helps to get more "how-to" from sites like this one. After working with it, your mouse speed will improve. Deciding which assets to download from several thousands takes a lot of time as the project advances, or if you are trying to recreate a particular Railroad or period of time.

    What do I have to buy/download (don’t forget the sim itself) to get this with all the assets? Are the assets already in the vanilla game?

    • @horacefithers6146
      @horacefithers6146  4 роки тому +2

      There a several asset categories associated with Trainz (and Trainz 2019). There are builtin assets that are available to all authorized users of the game for no additional cost. There are DLS (download station) assets that are donated (uploaded) to the N3VGames asset database by third parties. There are hundreds of thousands of these on the DLS. There are DLC assets (usually routes or rolling stock that cost extra). These are sponsored by N3VGames although most of them are done by third party asset developers under contract with N3VGames - N3V builds very few assets themselves. If you go for a SILVER, GOLD, or PLATINUM subscription you get access to a lot of DLC content for no additional cost. I have a GOLD membership which cost abou $15 USD per month (less if you buy a year at a time) - a bit less than the cost of an HO scale Accurail freight car kit. There is also a First Class Ticket that lets one install certain items for a small monthly fee. There are 3rd Party payware assets such as those from K&L Trainz or Jointed Rail. You pay the developer, then download the assets from their website(s) and install them in your Trainz database. Jointed rail has Approach Medium's Dry Brook & Esopus Valley route for example. Finally there are 3rd Party freeware assets from third party developers who for what ever reason didn't want to upload their assets to the N3V Trainz asset database. Both K&L Trainz and Jointed Rail have freeware assets on their sites. Trainz Forge and Trainz Forge Weebly are other sources of freeware assets.

      If you want to start building a route, you can get started with the free stuff. At some point, however you may start coveting a particular locomotive and after seeing video of a route decide you want to be able to run trains on it more than you don't like paying for stuff.
      -
      There are a number of free routes on the DLS. However, the quality of these routes is all over the place. Some are gems, others were made for 10 year old versions of Trainz and have next to no visual impact. By BC&SJ route (shown in other Trainz videos on this channel is available free from the DLS. However, it does make use of content from some DLC routes and use some payware locomotives (if you try to use the associated session) but you can always ignore the associated session, plop down what ever trains you feel like using, and drive 'em until the (virtual) wheels fall off.

    Hi and thanks for the video, very helpful. I'm new to Trainz and have TRS019.; I wonder if you would know why , when i lay the Road 2L 02, it has no traffic like I see in your vid. Cheers and thanks again for the info in this vid

    • @julezrobdog
      @julezrobdog 4 роки тому +1

      Hi again. I figured it out. In Surveyor Mode, in Edit Environment I clicked on the world icon and found traffic was enabled.... but apparently cars will only spawn in certain regions. So still in Surveyor Mode, I went to Edit Route and changed the region. Only certain roads in different regions are working for me and now I have flowing traffic. Cheers again for your videos.

      There is an option in Settings (under the upper left corner menus) for turning traffic on/off.

    I notice when you add the road 2l 02 cars immediately start driving on it. Why doesn't that happen when I add them? I can't get cars to drive on the roads.

    The mouse control is vey annoying to move arround and rotate. I wish this game had the same controls like Cities Skylines, Planet Coaster, etc. It makes the game so much easier.

    Horace, can you suggest a way I can learn Trainz. I bought Simulator 2019 and I'm totally lost. Are there books or videos? I see this one from you and it's very informational. Do you have others? I will subscribe and see what else is available. Thanks!

      You should also check out the Approach Medium UA-cam channel.
      And the N3V Games channel.

      If you're in Surveyor and not seeing traffic there's an option in one of the menus that will cause cars/trucks to drive while editing a route. If you're not seeing traffic while in Driver mode, I think there's another option in the global settings that enables/disables car and truck movement. If this doesn't help, try asking on Google "Trainz enable vehicle movement"

    How can you rotate the texture direction the way you did?

    • @horacefithers6146
      @horacefithers6146  4 роки тому

      Hitting the square bracket keys [ and ] will rotate the textures 90 degrees clockwise or counter-clockwise. Or one can grab a control in the F2 (scenery mode) panel to set finer amounts of rotation. Holding down the [ or ] keys will continuously rotate textures as one paints with them.

    Hey Horace.i hav 12.do you think i should upgrade and get a better pc..what specs on your machine ol m8

    • @horacefithers6146
      @horacefithers6146  4 роки тому

      Of course you should buy a better PC! Well maybe not... Actually that would depend on, how much $$ you have available for a computer upgrade, your existing computer's cpu, gpu, and memory, and how much you need/want/gotta-have the better graphics available in TRS19. Also, which routes do you want to run? Highly detailed routes need higher end cpu/gpu to keep fps up than simpler routes. Do you play other games that would benefit from a i9-9900k / 2080ti or do you want to sign up on folding@home to use your new super-duper computer to help figure out a way to defeat covid-19?) AMD, Intenl, and nVidia are all going to be releasing new cpus/gpus "soon". When they do the prices of existing stuff will likely fall a bit.
