Gorgeous, old fashioned artistry in an age where only technical virtuosity appears to matter. I never tire of Horzowski's taste, subtlety and charm. Irreplaceable!

Not a single "notey" phrase in the entire opus, God bless him! What lovely sound! What charm! What imagination! An what a SWEET person he reveals himself to be over and over in all his playing. The only pianist I've ever heard who plays Jimbo's Lullaby and The Little Shepherd as though he truly UNDERSTOOD them. These are not pictures of childhood. This is a dream about what childhood, perhaps, SHOULD have been like. Artistry is so much more than "good piano playing."
I was lucky to hear him play a concert in Switzerland in 1973. He was in his eighties. I was shocked years later to find out he was still alive. I think he made it 105?
Exquisite playing, indeed, Nosh! Horszowski's mother studied with Mikuli? I didn't know that! Of course, Mikuli was a pupil of Chopin, & also taught Rosenthal, among others. H. hailed from Lemberg/Lwow/Lvov/Lviv (as did Rosenthal) in Galicia, for a long time part of Poland, now in Ukraine. No doubt H's mother's studies were at the conservatory in that city, where for some years Mikuli was a faculty member. That city produced many fine pianists, incl. E. Ax & Jan Gorbaty (1 of my teachers).
Sorry, but all this pedantry on his PAST; enough we have HERE a man in his 90's, could barely see or even hear that well, performing some of the most beautifully expressive, nuanced, communicative piano playing ever recorded by anyone in the recital this was from. Not the powerful virtuosity; it isn't required by the music anyway. It seemed the older Horszowski got, the better he played. We are fortunate he lived long enough play a recital like the one...and we have this recording for posterity.
I am in shock! So great! Thanks for sharing!
I didn't know this interpretation.That's really fascinating,deeper and slower.thank you!

This slightly slower version is so much better than the others in my opinion. Thanks for uploading!
Lovely. This has such playfulness and imagination. I can see the characters.
"The Snow Is Dancing" is absolutely mesmerizing. Gorgeous!

sings Debussy, so delicate is his playing, sings! He "speaks" Debussy's Children's Corner"! Also, his Debussy playing is soothing to the ear.

Curious about what you mean by "notey".
92 years he was great
Lovely. Everything about it is lovely.
Absolutely superb.

So well said, Bloodgrss. This is the Spirit of Ecstasy.

I doubt it would be possible for a young pianist to make a living playing in this style (ie not 'crash, bang, wallop,') in this day and age.
Wow...
🥰😍💘❤
Me, too, Nosh.☺
Sorry, can't spell (or much else) and listen to Horszowski at the same time!
