I have this drum, and imho, it’s not that it’s a bad drum. It’s that it shines in a very niche market. If you’re playing in a group that calls for you to have a very minimalistic approach? This drum will serve you well. If you have a very melodic style, look elsewhere.
Speaking of, I also own this snare and would like to create as much ring/pop as possible for a 2nd snare. Any suggestions on head type to tune up that tight to achieve that super ring sound?
@@BrendrumJones I was thinking the same. I have a new Evens Hybrid head on it but doesn't get the ring (great head though). I'll switch it up with an Amabassaodr and let it sing. Thank you man, much appreciated
Cool review! I also own one. This snare was the first snare I purchased as a separate entity after I had played drums for a few years. This drum really helped me play better because at the time it really sounded fantastic to my ear. Really cracked and sounded like snare sounds I was hearing on Primus and 311 albums. I still own mine but have not played it in many years. My sound, skills and ear have changed a lot since then but I still remember learning a lot from this drum. Definitely a great drum for the price, not super versatile and kind of a loud crack, but with some control and some tweaking you can get some cool sounds of the drum.
Yeah Joe, i put this video on a facebook snare group and ask their opinion, most people love it and were saying they though it was a great snare. Its alot more popular then i thought. chat soon
I used to own this drum. Nice little piccolo. Definitely great for the gospel chops sound. Drum and bass would be a good fit. Prog rock, and new metal would work for this snare.
I am no drummer, But I accidentally got a Perl piccolo when I wanted a good snare. And everybody says it's valuable and keeper. All I wanted was to get that "Wallflowers" type of snare. And if you put about 3 mics for the snare, it is a killer!
Brendrum, I have a Mapex Metal Piccolo 13x3.5 snare. If I play that drum in a snare stand vs playing it on top of my 14 inch SNARE in the snare stand, I like the sound better!! Why is that ? I am a 69 year old Rookie ( actually not a complete Rookie, having played drums 55 years ago and now returned as a retirement enjoyment). No matter how I tune the Piccolo snare , I can't get that nice less resonant snappy sound as when I place it on top of the larger snare in the stand.
Thanks for the review! I was actually considering getting this snare recently, but I think I’ll pass. I have the maple one and am trying to get it dialed in so it sounds great at all tunings. I’ll fiddle with the heads and strainer.
Is there any general statement that sets brass drums apart from steel ones? I was searching for the B1330 but found this instead, I quite like this but would like to know the difference between it and the brass one.
@@CurtisBernard exactly I've had mine for almost 25 yrs and played hundreds of gigs with it in studio recording and on the road.Tuned correctly it sounds awesome. No one ever complained about my kit ever.

Excellent definition Lee. That sums it up 👍🏻 I'm gona pin this comment
I always liked the sound of piccolo snares, I know a lot of people don’t, but I like the pop you get off them
Yeah i like them too, if you need that sound, nothing else will do

@@Jake_IBS Yeah I would go with a clear skin , remo ambassador maybe , no damping and tighten a good bit. 👍🏻

Hummmmm, have you tried tightening the wires? that might be the difference or you could try dampening it with gels
Using a snare dampener such as a patch or a piece of tape to get that punch
I just got the maple one and I love it.

Yeah John, i think you could do a bit better its not bad as i said but go for the brass or the maple. chat soon man

I did this video it might help ua-cam.com/video/geeSZnhi9rc/v-deo.html
Sounds perfect for grindcore
Ya defo , great little snare
Any opinions about the model made out of maple. To be used in studio only?
Hey, it's a great drum played it a couple of times , would suit live or recording and it better than the steel
Maybe switch out that control sound batter?
Is piccolo the main brand or is piccolo a style of drum
Hey Shawn, that’s the type of drum, so you could look at other manufacturers. In this case the brand is Pearl
@@BrendrumJones thank you I order a piccolo I was thinking that was the brand
@@BrendrumJones I got one for ,53 bucks it's 13by 3.5
I bought this snare because I thought it sounded like Josh Freess' snare on Live Fast Diarrhea
Cool
I sooo regret selling this...
I’m was thinking of selling this to get a 14”
You have that thing sounding like @ss... It's your tuning, mine sounds awesome in the studio and live...
Jeez aren't you great, and a gentleman too, i see all that time at church has served you well.
@@BrendrumJones don't hate on honesty bro 😉
😅
Average??? No way …
I just think you could get better
1st off... Your batter head is way too thick for that drum plus it's as old as your mom.. It's your head choice, not the drum...
Lol I almost cried
Slap a single ply no dot head on there and hear it sing lol
What head would you recommend for this drum?
@@bizzjoe Remo Emperor coated top, Diplomat snare side, loosen the strainers.
