- This is the first performance ever by Siouxsie and the Banshees (Siouxsie Sioux, Steven Severin, Marco Pirroni and Sid Vicious) at the 100 Club Punk Festival on September 20, 1976. The 24-minute setlist consisted of a punk rendition of 'The Lord's Prayer' which included parts of 'Deutschland, Deutschland über Alles', 'Knocking on Heaven’s Door', 'Twist and Shout', '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' and 'Smoke on the Water'. They were billed as "Suzie and the Banshees".
I was there!!! It was very raw, and exciting and thrilling! I saw so many of the early punk bands, and many of them went on to make great records, including Siouxsie and the Banshees!!!!
Lucky sod!! Did you see Sid throw a bottle at The Damned that night? Was this the night he chain-whipped the music journalist Nick Kent at the bar too?
@@mjh5437it was a glass he threw & the nick Kent incident wasn't this time
siouxsie asked for three microphones because she "wanted to be not two times as loud, but THREE times as loud" and "heard of peoples' bowels dropping out at certain frequencies and thought it might cause a hell of a scene" god i love her
actually i don't love her, she was racist and horrible to robert smith and horrible to get along with
@@magdalena1603 is that true? Do you have a source please?
Punks were wearing swastikas not beacause they were raciscts, but because of its shock-value.....It was a part of their attitude, that actually was non-political. After the infancy of punk they had to adopt a more mature style and approach: no accident that Metal Postcard is an anti-nazi song with a John Heartfield collage on the cover....Their first single, Hong Kong Garden was written because she and her friends were very upset when skinheads attacked a Chinese Takeaway (called Hong Kong Garden) regularly where they used to eat, and told the skinheads to go off...not to mention the song Israel etc. How would she be racist? Better think it over.......
@@magdalena1603 Evidence please.
I'd like to have heard people's vowels dropping to the floor.
Guy in V-neck t-shirt and sportscoat asking his friend, "This isn't Roxy Music. Where ARE we?"
Was just talking to a mate in work today about this. This was 46 years ago yesterday. Both avid Punk and the Pistols fans. We discussed the idea of "Wish I had a time machine to go back to September 1976 at the 100 Club, I'd fucking stay there, a one way ticket with no return type deal". It looks like the guy at the front has a tape recorder doing the old 70's bootlegging. Maybe this is the recording copied to death?? God bless the chaos of it all. And if that's really Sid, then he's keeping a beat on those drums. Historic upload, thanks for this just because it actually exists.

Love Sid's drumming ☺️
From the photo looks like he didn‘t have much to bash 😂
Incredible and legendary recording! Amazed that this exists. Kudos to the recorder.
From this to something like The Last Beat Of My Heart.I love both, and everything in between.
Love that song. Perfect melt of Kraftwerk and Kate Bush.
True piece of music history preserved for our listening pleasure.
I'm just stunned by Siouxsie's voice! It's amazing 😍
Its history so just enjoy it
Viv Albertine says that this is the best thing she ever saw and made her want to play guitar 🙂
Was this gig before or after Viv became Sid`s girlfriend?
@@mjh5437 I didn't know that Viv was Sid's gf. I knew she was Mick Jones' gf 😅
Thanks for uploading. I've been looking for this for ages.
Thanks for sharing this 🙏🖤
fucking so cool to hear this live. Amazing, I can see it in my head. Thank u so much for computering it for us. i saw the creatures in London 1998 at the GARAGE and an evening with siouxsie..budgie and the kodo drummer from japan in another place. This band was a carnival on wheels the good the bad the ugly...…show it baby cuz there is a monitor on u us now,
It's long! But the crowd don't let them stop. A good thing 😃
Sid Vicious on the drums and Marco Pirroni who played guitar on the firsts gigs (later from Adam & The Ants) not less
Marco was the only one who could actually play during this
Marco was in the Models, Rema Rema before the Ants.
@@ultrachromatisme3534 and I think he sounds the worst!😌
@@zaradragonia9863 none of them sound good
@@ultrachromatisme3534 I disagree wholeheartedly! It is the very essence of what the punk movement stood for and reflects the sound of the time. How dare you come to our site and abuse our loved ones 🙂
Siouxsie's voice is very powerful here, but I prefer it once they got a bit more polished. The band added new members and advanced tremendously musically in the two to three years after this. You can tell there's already a lot of potential there with this first performance though. And I'm equally surprised at Sid's drumming, since I hadn't heard this in its entirety before now.
Alguien que haya ido a ese concierto?? Que genial como me hubiera gustado haber estado ahí
Sid... on the drums! :0)
It sounds very good/interesting and inspiring. Oh how I wish I had been there!
I always say, if I could time travel, I would go back to this time in the UK to witness the birth of SaTB
@@TrentVanegas I grew up in England as a child. I only wish the family had stayed..
@@zaradragonia9863 I was growing up in Notting Hill only a couple of Miles away from the 100 Club on the night of this gig but hadn`t started going to gigs yet unfortunately,,I would only have been about 12-13 in 1977
how the fuck did you get this? also i'm honestly surprised at how great they sound as a unit especially sid as a drummer lol
I just heard in a diff interview from the same year that she had Sod back her up on drums and I was like: ? 🤯
Yes it sounds like it was rehearsed! Sid's drumming is good and the guitar playing just goes along with the rest. But Sioux's voice sounds amazing
@@B4NDllKOOT_ ""Sod Vicious""? lol
Didn't sid want the drummer job I the damned but didn't turn up.. blinded a girl at a damned gig with a broken glass
so at the end, everyone gets to know that sid was better drumer than he could ever been on bass?? jaaa and i thought the rumour about sid playing drums on siouxie was fake
Marco
sids doin alright
Is this recording from the tape recorder being held by the dude In the front middle?
Fucking brilliant
Maco whent on to form the models they were brilliant
this doesn't even sound like siouxsie during most of it, it sounds more like the slits. which i mean it makes sense since they were from the same place in the same time and budgie drummed for both bands
Couldn't disagree more really. Doesn't sound anything thing like Ari and it's far too VU to sound like The Slits. The Budgie thing is pretty irrelevant too, especially as Sid's style is so far removed from Budgie's
It sounds nothing like The Slits. It’s also all the songs Siouxsie said they played.
Budgie didn't join the Slits till couple of years after this
it sounds like a much less mature version of her voice, and budgie wasn’t involved with the banshees until 1980
Where did this come from? Wow! As a huge fan of English punk and post punk music this is the bees knees 😅
❤
I'm a big fan of Sioux's early work from 76-81. After that they turned commercial 😔
It is good they became commercial, they would have split up by then otherwise...Anyway,they were already commercial by 1981,they had hit singles in the Top 30 and performances on TV in Top Of The Pops in about 1978-79.
@@mjh5437 yes I understand what you are saying. I mean that their music was different then. It was still sticking to their initial 'plan'. After Juju it just sounded kinda jaded and boring (to me anyway). I suppose you could say I am a fan of their early stuff only. I like the Creatures as well 😘
They made some great music after that, but really lost the raw stripped-back sound.
commercial is the nature of music, it is made to be shared, humans making noise is only truly appreciated by hearers, yours is therefore a moot point , they didn't set out to be bedroom musicians.
@@georgerichardson7728 indeed. Doesn't mean that it has to sound like shit🖍️🖌️
Anybody know what this was recorded on?
A flaming potato
kmart toaster
my converse shoes
Coke, heroin and beer I'd bet.
Was sid vicious on drums in this gig ?
Yes he was, that’s Sid Vicious before he joined Sex Pistols
And people make fun of him for not playing Bass right...
@@xgeex7540 because he was a drummer
@@MaxViciousWorldOfArt he was neither,😂
Are Robert smith meet sid vicious on the band? Anyone know?
Sid is on drums on this recording. His only performance in the band. Smith stood in on guitar for the Join Hands tour and then much later did the single Dear Prudence, the Hyaena album and Nocturne live album with them. Sid and Smith never worked together
@@feydharkonnen woww..thanks for the info mate🤘🏻

That crowd looks too rough for Robert smith
And it certainly doesn't sound like the future Siouxsie that came out with Hong Kong Garden 😳
Sid is actually better on drums than he is on bass. That's not saying a lot, but still
Let me correct you a bit, Sid is actually better on everything when he’s not on smack (such as here). The first few Pistols shows and the early version of Bodies actually had more than adequate bass from him, even the Scandinavian tour in late 77. Just threw it all away by the time they got to America
Always thought the bloke with tge tape recorder at the front reminds me of Budgie.
No wonder they continued the band😃
Who is barking??🤔
i love steven severin he went from the most punk to the most pretentious and if that isn't the best progression-
to think he was even a part of this is so strange considering how much of a pretentious vampyre he is now
Oh no.. Is he pretentious because he writes ambient albums and soundtracks while working as a publicist? A pretty decent and withdrawn character, if anything.
Rubbish.
I personally can't stand Severin!I find his high and mighty English attitude very annoying and he speaks so softly.
I just can't see him getting drunk or anything else. But I like his bass playing as I think bass can be a very tricky instrument especially for this kind of music. He went from total naivety on bass to being a proficient player
Annoying angst..but good surface for developing first album..they were serious. Yes, i've been fan since realized satb, 1984?
They were kids
annoying name and annoying piece of art on your annoying computer photo.oh im just so so annoyed LOL.if u do not know what this means please run along. This is siouxsie sex pistols and more at inception first time playing ever. annoying angst? Please do not label shit anymore.
That would be a great band name.
I think Marco is the worst player and he was apparently the 'good one'!
Same tempo, same rythm, same tonality, same one note "songs". And someone is sxreaming while noone knows how to play any instrument. Same as today s standards for many "musicians".
The guitars and Siouxsie are really good, but Sid's drumming is beyond woeful
