A wonderful representation of one of my personal favourite meals. Pickled tongue so tender with great tasting homemade mustard, vetkoek soft inside with crunchy crust. The acceptance of such foods as this depends mostly on culture, perception and personal taste. Try this if you haven’t yet, you might just come to like and maybe even love it as much as I and many others do. Great stuff you 3 ❤️🙏🤗🤗
My mom makes tongue once or twice a year. My kids saw it in the pot once and were "turned off" and would not try it. I love it and bring it home, to enjoy on my work sandwiches. I snuck it on to my kids sandwiches once but they found out and now they always ask me, "promise it's not tongue?" I'm more than happy to keep it all for myself. Great vid, I am always so excited to see your new episodes show up in my subscriptions.
This dish is a labour of love, not something I would eat. Loved watching how you prepared it. The Vetkoek was the highlight, lovely presentation as always 🎈 thank you so much for sharing.
Loved your video! The fried bread looks amazing love the mustard sauce and the pickled tongue too. Was looking for a recipe on how to pickle the tongue myself. The best part of the video is your gorgeous dogs!
I received a package of pickled tongue and it's been in my freezer, not knowing what to do with it. I'm looking forward to fast forwarding to assembling sandwiches! This looks great, thank you!
Hoekom is bees tong so lekkerrrr? Want hy het nooit 1 leuen vertel nie, hahaha! Fantasties julle! Gou bietjie vra, het jul dalk resep om te pickle, ons in die buiteland en kry net vars tong, het een probeer pickle, maar nie dieselfde geproe nie! Liefde groete daar!
Hi Karoo. Have you checked out our sweet and sour pork video? Great camping recipe a real family favorite. Video - ua-cam.com/video/hcj1Qi6wFw4/v-deo.html
Maybe just for clarity, the tongue was pickled / brined in advance. (you can buy pickled tongue in South Africa). The pickle contributes to the pinkness of the cooked tongue.
Next time you eat that, leave off the tomatoes and mustard and put pickled beetroot on the vetkook. I am surprised, though, that you did not have any gelatine. is it an Afrikaans thing that you do not eat it??
Is this PICKLED?? Did I miss something. Looks like you just slow cooked it with water and vegetables. Don’t you need salt and vinegar to pickle something? I’m confused. Lol.

Thank you so much James! Really means the world to us. Cooked tongue is a real treat in our house. They never seem to make it to the sandwiches....😉😁👍

I have got to try this. I think I would make the tongue the day before and slice it. Then pan fry with potatoes and eggs for breakfast. Yum.

Hi love the recipe. I make tongue but mine never turns out this beautiful pink colour. Please help 😊
😋😎🏆
Looks good and all but what part of this tongue is “pickled” ?
Also instead of cake or bread flour what can I use ?
Is it possible to use another oil if u don't have canola oil
Absolutely!
Isn’t this just boiled tongue? What makes it pickled?
The tongue would have been pickled in brine first.
The tongue that was used was pickled.
Waars die Marmite mater! Vetkoek moet Marmite op he!
🤣👌
Praat Afrikaans champ.

Will definitely try the pickled beetroot!
Ummm, pickled?

It is already pickled when you buy it (in South Africa). Like corned beef .. in brine, not vinegar
It says pickled tongue recipe. I just wasted 15 minutes watching a video that didn’t even have a picking recipe. 😢
When I saw you peeling the tongue I just knew the doggies were in for a treat.
It was never pickled?
