Thanks for being very up front with the fact you were provided the review copy by Renegade. I've seen recent discussion about other outlets not suitably disclosing their relationships on reviews. I don't buy much into the "they gave you a copy so it will be a good review" philosophy that others do, but I still appreciate the honesty. I especially liked that the tagline is unobtrusive but present anytime you were making review comments. Great way to do it and I wish others took similar steps. Keep up the great work! :-)
The text is far too small. The background being changed would help but the font size also needs to be increased quite a lot.
I like that your reviews include player count reviews!
I added that section because I wasn't seeing it consistently covered elsewhere. I'm glad it's been useful for you :)
Agree with David M - your in-depth reviews are fantastic, but the fact that you consistently include how a game plays at all player counts really make your reviews stand out above the rest! I almost always play games with my husband only, and a lot of good games are just not good at all with 2 - but it's notoriously hard to find information about how various games actually play with two! So thank you!
This video's audio drops out again & again, leaving blank spaces of silence so that lots of words are inaudible. I've noticed this in some of your other videos as well, but this one in particular has a lot of it. It's frustrating, because I love your playthroughs & reviews.
Note: I just realized that these audio drop-outs are only occurring when I watch the video on my TV's UA-cam app, again & again in all the same spots even when I rewind. But when I go to those spots in the video through my phone's UA-cam app, those certain spots are fine, with no audio drop-outs. What the hell?!
I was so confused why you didn't have a meeple for the leftmost player, and instead has a big green cube, then I realized which character you had and cracked up. Its a small touch but I love it.
I wasn't a fan of the volcano ability that burns all the cards at a location. It pretty much ruins the tile.
How do you feel about house ruling? I 100% agree with your concerns about the first player marker, and it gave me an idea for a "scheduled vendor" house rule; pretty much set up for next turn this turn, and have the information available, just not be able to actually play on it till next turn. It would take up (almost literally) twice the space, but would make future decisions more possible. Just a thought. I figure that you wouldn't really want to discuss house ruling in an official review as it takes away from the core game's ideas and mechanics, but what are your thoughts here?
I see where you are coming from, but honestly I think this would make the game far busier than it already is and won't help out enough to make it worth it. I listed this as a neutral point for me because I don't see it as an issue with the game, but more of an interesting side effect of the location draw that could potentially be frustrating but I don't think needs actual fixing. Please let me know if you end up trying this out and let me know if it works better than I fear :)
Hey Jon nice review! Pre-ordered the game already, but was waiting for your review.
I've seen other reviewers comment on:
-Actions spaces feeling very samey, most being basically just get cards.
-Very Luck dependant.
How do you feel about those two ideas?
I didn't find the locations samey, in fact I really enjoyed the variety of actions they gave. Of course they are mostly "just get cards" but the ways in which you do that are all over the place, and some involve other things like moving your shelved cards around. In the end this is a set collection game, so it makes sense that the majority of actions will involve acquiring cards.
Regarding the luck dependency, I went into this with some detail here: ua-cam.com/video/S9Y41xG_YEg/v-deo.htmlm4s
Hey Jon think you got the editing mixed up. At 10.29 you start your review but then it cuts to the middle of your gameplay explanation again. :)
Huh, I think this may have been on your browsers side because I haven't been able to recreate it.
Good production!
Great review. Do the wooden card holders come in the game?
Parker Sutton No they don't come with. I should have made that more clear, I happened to own them already.
JonGetsBored where did you get them?
I don't remember :-\ I threw them into an amazon order a couple years ago I think but don't recall any specifics.
I found these on Amazon, may be the same ones? www.amazon.com/Panorama-Wooden-Playing-Card-Holders/dp/B017IG19EY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1511398345&sr=8-4&keywords=playing+card+holders
Yep, thats them :)
your audio is horrible.
I'm always looking for ways to increase the quality of my videos, in what way exactly did you have an issue with the audio?
Thanks for the feedback, you are far from the first to mention this so it seems my attempts at slowing down haven't been effective enough yet.
I appreciate how fast you speak! I usually play videos at 1.5x or 2x and I appreciate your speed and clarity.
I don't have a problem at all with the audio
The problem is that the audio drops out again & again, leaving blank spaces of silence so that lots of words are inaudible.
