That's the nature of AM radio, the sound fidelity tends to be not as good as FM radio. The technology used in AM broadcasting is more vulnerable to interference than FM broadcasting.
Makes me miss the old weather radio station Youngstown had before they shut that off and had Cleveland (Mahoning & Trumbull) and Pittsburgh (Columbiana, Mercer, & Lawrence) used instead.

Yep they had human voices till about the late 90s when they significantly cut costs and laid off humans for computerized drone voices.
