There was a waterspout in Florida that was just offshore, and beachgoers were acting if nothing was happening. It looked like a fully formed tornado, thick and solid. It then began to move inland and it started damaging buildings, sending big sheets of debris flying into the air which would've hurt or killed people. It seems that people don't take a tornado at sea as seriously as one on land.
That was same for us when Hurricane Idilia formed they had Tornados form flipped a car over in Charleston but lucky no folks got hurt

Usually watersports dissipate and because they're out at sea noone can view them until they get close. It's called a WATERspout.

Did you see the video of the carnival ride falling apart? The first piece had already hit the ground and a 2nd piece was about to come off yet people still stood around nearby and in line of all places, smh. No one tried to shut it off. An officer or security guard walks over nonchalantly to get those near it away. I just couldn't believe what I saw. People don't use their brains these days, lol...

Running with the danger is something we've all seen and apparently learned from in sci-fi movies .
They are in situation, nervousness takes over and can’t think straight. You have to have nerves of steel to stay focus so you can then know to run in a different direction. Or they are thrill seekers🥺
Years ago I had just left Myrtle Beach from vacation a couple of hours before a “harmless” waterspout came ashore and turned into a tornado destroying homes, businesses and motels and killing people. That’s why you never take a waterspout for granted. They mention this on The Weather Channel all the time. Looking at a waterspout you can’t tell how strong the uplift is and even a small one can hurt you or kill you.
A long time ago I saw the video of a woman somewhere on vacation with her family and they stood and watched a waterspout come ashore and it picked her up, she went way up into it as it turned deadly. It dropped her a long way away ripping her ear off and prettying much sandblasting her flesh and and almost tore her face off.
They’re nothing to laugh about on the water or when they come ashore.
Those folk saw it coming and welcomed it with open arms instead of getting to a safe location

When a waterspout reaches solid ground, it's considered a tornado.

if you watch the right person, theres a guy that runs and disappears into the pile of tents and chairs like its a pile of leaves and the way he runs is heroic, its like, its not an emergency but hes going for it anyway holding his shorts up and when he gets there he's like a dog chasing car but he gets there and you really have to give him credit for that.

Ive seen them on Lake Erie. That one was more of a mist. Pretty impressive when it looks like a solid water spiral that can be seen from almost a mile away.
It’s the same principle. On land it’s called a Tornado. Over water, it’s a Waterspout. This one decided to be both, I guess? 😅
Witnessed it in Southern Italy this past summer. Only difference from this clip is that it came in from land to than collide into the Sea.

For those wondering why, the people on the path of the waterspout are the ones who have companions and belongings on the same path. They were trying to save them. If you've been on the beach, you naturally swim within sight of your tent and companions.

So I live near Destin and what makes me SMH about this is the people running in a straight line away from the waterspout. Run to the side, out of it's path people.
This reminds me of the Beirut explosion video of a guy and girl on a jetski that dove into the water right before the shockwave hit.
And these people in the water barely fazed by the tornado. And some of those people on the beach were absolutely rocked by flying debris.
The best advice I was given after moving from one side of the country to the Pacific Ocean… “When the beach has no birds in sight, it’s for a good reason”

This happen to me n my kids decades ago on Coney Island beach. Right after my daughter saw the movie twister. She spotted it far out n yelled mommy the twister is coming. The entire beach ran. N we all flew. I ran w my kids so fast 💨 water flooded the streets n we were almost swimming home. Thank God I ran track in school !!! U can out run it if u get a head start but if not u will get hurt. Take cover asap if u can’t run. ❤ my kids are in their 30s n still talk about how fast I was running 😂😂😂

That was like a water dust devil in 74 I was 15 working on my brother in laws 17 ft shrimp boat and a full blown like e.f. 2 chased us on the Galveston bay! That was the first time I truly prayed!

This video should also serve to show you how much energy wind can pick up over water but as soon as it hits land, it immediately loses all momentum. That small sprout died after several hundred feet of passing the beach.

This is as far from a waterspout as you can get, we see these all the time on dry land and are often referred to as dust devils, they are small hence its only creating spray, that aside they can be dangerous in that they can pick up light weight items or launch furniture that has some kind of wind trap, the biggest risk here is been hit by debris, getting sand or grit in the eye but the wind itself is often nothing worse than a relatively gusty day.

This reminds me of how every time something seemingly dangerous happens, I'm always the 1st to run for safety while everyone else stares at me like im being dramatic. The crazy part is, the things that cause me to flea to safety are things you would expect to have alerted EVERYONE. Like a man setting off the weapon detector when entering the building, then fighting off the security guards for trying to check his bags. Yes the entire crowed would stand watching then they would all turn and give me the side eye for trying to leave quickly. I get so frustrated with that cause it really makes me feel like somethings wrong with me in the moment. But after watching this, I now know that I am just one of very few people in this world with survivor instincts.

Yep, lived just over the bridge from Clearwater my whole life, essentially, and couldn't even tell you the number of Christmases (or any holiday, really) we've spent on the beach. I've also seen far more waterspouts, from land and on boats, than I've ever seen tornadoes, thankfully. And in true Floridian form, I'll take a good, ole hurricane or waterspout any day of the week over any sized tornado, those things scare the everloving crap outta me!
Cracked me up watching some of these folks running like their lives depended on it though. Not their fear, mind you, just the silliness of the whole scene. All jokes aside, they probably didn't have any business being on the beach to begin with. Lightning is alot more prevalent in these parts and you can absolutely get shocked from standing on the wet sand if it strikes nearby. Most kids in my county are taught in school, if you hear thunder, go inside, or at the very least, get away from water/wet ground/trees and stuff. Many Floridians have at least one sketchy lightning story in their history. lol
