I just watched both pt. 1 and 2 of your video about setting up the NCE UTP panels. You have provided me with so much information. Now watching Power Cab set video. This is great!! Thank you for taking the time.
Hey I wanted to Thank You for your video's . I just ordered my NEC Power Cab today from Model Train Stuff . I had a layout when I was a kid a 4x8 one . Starting up a new layout , the NEC system seem like a good one too expand on . Keep up the great video's lot's of good info for us newbies. This is my first layout using DCC I'm really excited the loco's sound great and look so much better than the ones I had in the 70"s .
You can run 4 new modern can motor locos. You can add a sb5 smart booster that will be 5 amps. The question is how large is layout and what do you plan on doing.
Right now I just have a 4x8 layout and would run maybe two or three at once. I'm planning to expand in the future or even completely change to a around the walls layout but the NCE system seems very easily expandable and could suite my needs nicely it seems. Thank you for your advice and the wonderful videos!
Great info. I´m using the Powercab and have a 20x1 switching layout. Sometimes the locos stall on the track. Do you think I need a booster or maybe put more track feeders?
Great video Arthur. I've been looking at this system. I've seen conflicting reports about how many engines you can run simultaneously with the NCE Power Cab? I've heard anywhere from 2 to 5 to 8. I'd be interested to know your thoughts. Thank you.
Good afternoon. I am in a jam; I just received a Althern GP50 HO scale locomotive off Ebay that already has a digital address of #3150 programmed with the seller's NCE DCC programmer. I only have Bachmann's EZ Command DCC Controller that only provides single (#1-9) digit addresses. I spoke to Train World in Brooklyn, called Bachmann and NCE ... none could help me. If I purchase a NCE Power Cab starter set, can I run that locomotive with the existing #3150 address?
Loco stalling, first clean wheels and track, oil wheel bearings. Get a LED 3mm put 1000 ohm. Resistor on it to insure you are getting voltage. This is test light. You need to insure you are getting juice to all parts of track. More feeders and soldering rail joiners will help. One engine running you do not need sb5.
just started, thanks for the grounds up explanation on this controller. it was highly recommended . What would power switch machines ? a separate transformer ?
IF YOU CAN REACH THE switch I would use ground trough's caboose hobbies. If not then tortious Machines and a 12 vote DC power supply and simple mini switch DT
Yes there many steps . To make it all work and power cab is limited in capacity. The Pro Cab 5 amp system far better option for the signal and detection.
Had lighting EMO and killed Proerhouse Command station. Pulled the System one out and it did the job until the newer system command station was repaired and returned.
Did I hear you correctly that you can only have ONE UPT panel daisy chained off the original PCP Panel? I bought my PowerCab thinking I could daisy chain numerous additional panels around my layout and move or use additional cabs in other locations..
Yard mod is were the control knob has center point roll one direction engine goes forward and roll past center and the engine goes backwards. Have never used it in 20 years. You set it as step when you change or set cab number.
I recently purchased the nce powercab. And im having some issues, I don't know if it is just the way it works or if I got a dud.? Sometimes when I power on the system is it normal for it to show a non existing cab address that does not exist nor have I ever programed it. Keep in mind I purchased the power cab brand new. I changed the clock to show track amps because I was having a lot of stalling and stopping... is it normal for the amps to jump up and down constantly. I also have been noticing that I will take the locomotives up to speed, and hit recall to adjust the other locomotive speed, hit recall again to go back and it shows all zeros and the only way to stop the train is to hit the EMERGENCY STOP. We called nce and the guy had us do program 5 x enter 12x to reset the system. That's about all the help they have been. Sorry so long. Just been frustrated. Thanks
The cab address on the Power Cab when you start has to be 2. Will not work if not 2. Unplug power cab from PCP. panel. Hold down "select Loco" button and plug back in. Cab address should be flashing. Enter 2 press enter. next will come yard or normal press 2 again. Then go to bottom and press ESC/PROG button. and it un plug from PCP left RJ12 jack and plug back in. Should read 2 and the unit red light should come on and it should work if connected to a piece of track with DCC engine one it.
Hi Arthur, Thanks for your videos and I have subscribed! I recently purchased the NCE Powerhouse Pro r (wireless 10 amp DCC system, so hope you don't mind helping me if that's OK?> I purchased this system recently, and just now got a chance to start testing it with a couple different decoders (the one included with the system NCE D408SR & a ESU LokSound XL V4.0). I am modeling G Scale LGB & Bachmann Spectrum locos and have isolated 2 moguls so far in order to install DCC decoders Problem is that it seems to be auto reversing as if the booster is treating the track like it is a reverse loop (and I have the switch set to normal on the booster), yet I am not using a loop but rather a 48 inch section of LGB track for testing purposes. o my bench (and have already experienced a run away due to the system resetting and then auto-reversing the loco direction. Sometimes I will turn on the system and instead of moving in the forward direction, instead will be going in reverse, even though when I last powered off the system it was set to forward (again acts like the booster has auto reversed the track power)? Sometimes while operating, it will seem to auto switch to the opposite direction, but this seems to be happening more in Wireless operation, and I have set/programmed the loco to not use DC, but DCC only.. Not sure if it is in the Pro Cab hammer head control throttle that is the problem, or if its in the booster or command station, but have noticed when the reset occurs the Pro Cab LCD screen with flash the second screen of bootup before going to normal operation status...but again operation will be reversed and not corresponding to the correct orientation of train direction as compared to the controller normal operation. I have also noticed that when using it as wireless if I'm using yard mode (meaning I can use the encoder wheel to scroll forward and train will move in that direction until I scroll it backwards and it will find a center stop and if I continue in that direction it moves in reverse), It seems If I'm doing this and especially if scrolling back and forth rapidly, then I will see the Pro Cab Throttle LED show what looks like a momentary reset as mentioned above...like when the system is first turned on 2nd screen...showing the software version, and then after that the direction controls will be reversed. And this will keep doing this as I keep using it. Again it is acting like something may be wrong with either the Pro Cab Throttle, the booster or perhaps even the wireless antenna box, or perhaps it may be in the Brutus power supply not providing constant regulated power? I cannot be for sure it is the pro cab wireless throttle alone or / and if it may be something working incorrectly with the booster or Command station. Have you ever heard of this happening before? Might you know the problems that is causing this? Both engines/locomotives have been isolated and 2 different manufacturer's decoders, so I doubt this could be due to the Locos or their decoders, but perhaps there is something I missed when doing the isolation process or decoder installation, but I doubt it as I try to research, study and be very thorough before doing anything. These are two LGB Moguls, so isolating the motor from the contacts & wheels to the rails was straight forward. You can contact me at tcblgb@gmail.com Any thoughts & help is very appreciated! Tracy
what lead is positive on the track and the DCC track connection it doesnt have polarity marked. Two red wires brilliant. Does the transformer for existing connection stays hooked up.
What ever one you want it to be, you just need to keep it the same all the way around. Take old box car and paint one side red and one side white put big + and - on each side. or Red and Black. Their really is not positive and negative in DCC. But same rules as AC or DC apply.
If you have existing layout and was working of a DC power supply just disconnect it and connect the track bus leads to where the other one was and all should work just fine. Size and total number of engines comes into play. But should be all you need to do.

Would set up layout test as you go and see what happens. If need be you can get SB5 smart booster. But first lets set it up and see what happens.
Whenever I try to change the CV bell function, after the last step of pressing the escape button and when I try the bell button, it doesn't work and the display screen shows the letter L. All other functions will work except for the bell until I unplug the power, then plug it back in. Only after I do that will the bell work. Any thoughts? Why the there isn't an on/off switch, and having a clock that doesn't keep current time seems strange also.
CV has a range for the decoder, for the function of vol. number has to be in that range. You call up that CV and it gives you what it is set first then you hit enter and put new setting and then press enter. Hard for me to do this in this communications.
arthurhouston3 it is difficult to explain, but I can get all of the settings to change, but I find it odd that after I hit "enter" I have to unplug the power then plug back in and everything is fine
I have that problem on the odd occasion. It seems to be caused either by low voltage even if it is for a micro second or a quick short. I haven't pinned it down exactly. Sometimes I have to reset all of the CVs (CV 8 to 8 on a Tsunami decoder) and set up the engine again and that clears up the issue. Make sure the track and wheels are extra clean and if possible always use a capacitor on the decoder to preclude the momentary loss of power or voltage drop.
Why does CON keep showing up on my monitor? It won't go back to loco. Train just sits there an ideals a long with horn an bell functions, but no forward or reverse?
That engine number is in a consist. Go to consisting keys and press delete enter number press enter. That should solve problem. Let me know May have to go find consist. And delete it.
@@arthurhouston3 thanks it worked, idk the cab is just giving me problems or just this at least. It's like everything has scrambled to different key functions. For instance my direction button no longer does anything an neither will my increase/ decrease button will function. It just releases the air brakes. My kids must have gotten a hold of it while I was away from work. Lol.....
Unplug controller from plug. Hold down 0 plug back it it should reset to default. Now the power cab has to start up first. Not sure what power cab does. I will try in AM.

Used 22 or 20 gauge wire from track buss 14 stranded. I solder all connections. Soldered to rail joiners. Have some 18 ft sections one set of feeders in center. Did not do a video on this.
I just bought this and already wanna chunk it in the trash. Why doesn’t it come with an easy plug n play, I’ll go buy feeder wire tomorrow since apparently shows don’t sell it which makes no sense, this system just makes it difficult and overly sophisticated everything. Legit don’t have a clue how to connect the track to this at all, soldering?? The booklet it comes with shows like feeder wires with rail jointer looking endings go underneath the rails and makes it seem so simple, why not have it included with the starter set? Leaves you needing to buy something else just to use it.
You never seemed to address how the connections are made form the Power Panel to the track. Everything else I got from reading. Maybe a new/full tutorial would be in order?
Yes. But I don't know what to use exactly and how to connect them. But I do have a DC set of wires from a Bachmann DC train set bought in December. Could I just strip one end if the wires and connect it to the track?
Will do another if I have a power cab come though the shop but instructions in the box show clearly in a picture were the two track power wires connect.
found a problem brought the ole multi meter and guess what have a dead power rail one connection is fubar. Touch on existing wiring the ole transformer can be be hooked up into a dead short. 2 wires 50% chance of burning up your power cab.

Why the there isn't an on/off switch, and having a clock that doesn't keep current time seems strange also.
Kevin Spielmann you need to press enter not esc to apply.
arthurhouston3 I do press enter first.
@@christophergalvan8 Did you get message on resting the Power Cab. It was wrong. With system on go to PROG/ESC button bottom left. Press it until you see Set Common Station. Then press enter until you see. Reset Command station press 6. Do it.
@@arthurhouston3 yes an thank you again for helping me through all this progress an new layout.
Do you have a video for how to make track feeder?
Used 22 or 20 gauge wire from track buss 14 stranded. I solder all connections. Soldered to rail joiners. Have some 18 ft sections one set of feeders in center. Did not do a video on this.
You mention at the beginning that the male connector plugs are the RJ-12 type. FYI they are actually the RJ-11 type.
No you cannot use any DCC system on a DC none decoder engine. Most decoders if set to run on DC will allow your DCC equipped engine to run on DC.
@@jwrailve3615 be happy to answer all your questions. FB Grande Pacific Railroad.
You only have what? You need to reprogram engine or turn DC on.
You never seemed to address how the connections are made form the Power Panel to the track. Everything else I got from reading. Maybe a new/full tutorial would be in order?
Dale Saylor you run leads from the terminals that say track power to the track buss wires.
There don't seem any wires supplied and I don't know what they should be.
To the point!
I have a few questions on the power cab. If you want to message me
What is the price on this controller
Look at Tony's Train Exchange they have what I think is the best prices.
I am having trouble setting up my nsw nce cab

Thankyou for that i will do that 👍👍
If I gave you my mobile number could you talk me through how to set up my nice cab
can i use code 83 test track
Yes
Isn't most of this info in the book?
found a problem brought the ole multi meter and guess what have a dead power rail one connection is fubar. Touch on existing wiring the ole transformer can be be hooked up into a dead short. 2 wires 50% chance of burning up your power cab.
You cannot have the old power supply in use at same time
will blow the DCC system.
Still sounds too complicated. I'm staying with DC. They still have a way to go if you ask me. Doesn't sound user friendly.
Each to there own but currently 95% are DCC. It's not that big a deal but makes wiring and operations 1000s times simpler.
