My Dad's tiger strip uniform is my favorite. His Army time was crazy. He was in a Nike Ajax battery at Bliss. Bliss was even emptier in the 60s. The only way out was to volunteer to be an MP in the XVIII Airborne Corps. A few years after he got out, my Dad and the guy he left Bliss with joined the Florida National Guard's SF team. I think that's where the tiger stripes came from.
The Air Force had the right idea for using Tigerstripe but their execution really sucked. They could have gone with it for the Airman Battle Uniform but they had to use UCP's colors.

On the Army subreddit, most of the folks who enlisted at the time have nostalgia for the BDUs, despite the uniform in question not exactly being used overseas (except maybe for Panama and Kosovo). Having been a kid at the time, I remember seeing the impact the pattern had on culture while the Army was lying to itself over the magnificence of the then-newly introduced UCP. And finally, the cavalry uniforms of Teddy Roosevelt's rough riders. Special mention goes to the DCUs of the early 2000s. The chocolate chips have their place but for function's sake less was more.
What's interesting is 369th Infantry Regiment an all African American army unit (famously known as the Harlem Hellfighters) was placed under French command by General Pershing and where issued French helmets and weapons for combat. So they were the only American unit that went into battle with the French Adrian helmet and not the M1917 Brodie helmet
The uniform worn by the US Army in WW1 was first worn in 1902 when they moved away from a blue combat uniform. Several changes were made through 1918. The french were still wearing blue in WW1. You are also wrong about the BDUs. I wore BDUs on 3 continents from 1981 to 2005. AS did the entire US Army. The UCP was the worst uniform in 249 years of US Army history!

The confederacy only surrendered because the entire south was destroyed, soldiers were starved and wore uniforms that were ripped to shreds, and the confederate soldiers were exhausted from fighting for almost 5 long years, and there was no hope in trying to win after the battle of Gettysburg.

The navy's current camo uniform is pretty squared away. Great camo pattern. I like the "Don't Tread on Me" patch and the upper arm pockets are raised so you can properly roll your sleeves. But I still have all my OCP uniforms and they wear like pajamas. So comfy.

One time someone tried to buy something for a discount at my business, and they said that "desert storm was a busy time and I was a young marine." Really weird considering I was in the Navy and was 8 when desert storm started.

3 of my 3rd great grandpas fought for the Union during the Civil War. One of my 3rd great grandpas was in the Bucktail Brigade and I managed to get his uniform recreated. Had another one that was a Zouave in the 2nd Delaware that I'm working on next.
As a civil war enjoyer, at 0:23 seeing the Confederate Soldier with a WINCHESTER 1866 RIFLE *THAT HAS A BAYONET ATTACHED* hurt my eyes. (to you non history folk let me tell you what's wrong: Pretty sure whoever made the image wanted to use the 1860 Henry Rifle, but instead used the Winchester 1866 [its direct descendant]. Both rifles were incapable of attaching a bayonet. Second, the Henry Rifle was very rarely seen in the war [it was mostly a private purchased weapon, only 1731 were government purchased] and when the Confederates did get their hands on it, they mostly did not have the materials necessary to reproduce its ammunition or the gun itself. And also, the Winchester 1866 was made in 1866. That was a year after the Confederates had already surrendered)
The "chocolate chip" pattern has always been a favorite, not just because of its association with the '91 Gulf War but also because it was used as the Global Defense Initiative's uniform in Command & Conquer back in the day. I was sad to find out it had been replaced with the coffee stain pattern. Fun fact, the pattern was originally developed in the fifties or sixties when it was believed that the US would have to potentially intervene in a conflict in Israel. They even made helmet covers in that pattern for the M-1 helmet. I own a pair for the nostalgia and for cosplay. I had some gear left over from my time in the Navy and selling it didn't feel right.

The Vietnam era tiger stripe is above the plain OD green but absolutely nothing tops the multicams. Light, breathable, and a crusty brown tint that made you look like a working man. Shame it got replaced with the twice as thick, non-breathable neon green ocps that felt like starched cardboard no matter how many times you washed it

Tiger Stripe originally came from Vietnam. ARVN based it off the French Lizard pattern who based it off of British Paratrooper Smocks from ww2

We looked like prison janitors and I'm glad they're gone. Irredeemably unaesthetic uniform.

Spats are rad. I'm sure theres a reason we don't use them anymore (I've never worn any) but they sure looked good on the uniform.
