    Awesome Morgan and Peace dollars. Before PCGS and NGC started in mid to late 80's,ANACS were the main coin graders,they started in 1972

    • @jeffw1267
      @jeffw1267 3 роки тому +1

      In the beginning, ANACS would only authenticate coins and they didn't encapsulate them. So the coins could be swapped out. Later, in the mid-80s, ANACS did start to grade (though they still only put the coins in flips). And they had split obverse/reverse grading which I think the other companies should have gone with. PCGS revolutionized the industry with grading AND encapsulation though many investors lost fortunes with sight-unseen trading.

    Good video. It's more of a gamble unless you're polished enough to use the SHELDON scale before grading.

      For me I have to believe that my coins will get the grade I want, based on what certain grades are worth. If I'm confident, then I'll spent the money. But you'll often save money per coin the more you send.

    Generally a rotated die won't mean anything unless the reverse is at least 15 degrees rotated. Even then it might not add significant value to the coin.

    As a Morgan and Peace Dollar collector, I luv the video! Thanx for sharing! Curious as to why you sent to ANACS for grading versus PCGS or NGS?

      PCGS and NGC require paid memberships or going through an authorized dealer. ANACS does not, and you send it in yourself.

    Yep!.......ANACS is just as "STINGY" with grading these days as PCGS and NGC!.......Now I say this with regards to all coins that are NOT "MODERNS" i.e. Silver Eagles, and Gold Eagles from '86 to Present! ......And also not as Strict with Eisenhower Dollars!......I have been a collector for over 45 Years (Oh Yeah, before Coins were Sonically Sealed!) And I remember the days when ANACS was indeed part of the ANA (American Numismatic Association!) And some of those REAL OLD ANACS Slabs from 1984-1989 when the ANA sold off (Well REALLY, Just Got Out Of The Grading Part Of The Business) As by then both PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Company) had come on the scene first in January of '86, and then John Albanese Left PCGS to move across the Country in order to Establish NGC (Numismatic Grading Company) and then in 2002 he expanded into the NCS (Conservation Service For Coins) (And of course NGC Also grades Sports Cards, Comic Books, and also Started Grading PAPER CURRENCY!) But PCGS also followed them with the Paper Currency Grading in the Early part of this Century, As CCA was the Only Paper Money Grading Company before the "BIG 2" (PCGS and NGC) and believe me! CCA is Still the "Top Tier" Paper $ Grading co. As CCA has been doing it Far Longer than anybody else, and their Graded Bills carry a decent premium Over NGC's (PMG) and PCGS's Paper Grading subsidiary!!
    Sorry to get off track and write a Book! LOL! .......BUT I just wanted to give my 2 cents worth of opinion, as to how sometimes ANACS gets a "Not so great" Reports, or Opinions of "How the Coins in ANACS Holders should be considered RAW Coins!" .....AND I AM HERE TO STATE THAT IS PURE "Balderdash!"........Now as I said Earlier, I'm not a Fan of the way they Grade Moderns (I think that they Grade FAR TO MANY MS-70's And PROOF-70's on modern Silver and Gold Eagles!) But as far as Grading Early American Coins, they are Right up there with the "So Called, Tier-1 Grading Co.s Such as PCGS, AND NGC!....The ONLY CAVEAT I HAVE FOR THIS STATEMENT! IS THE FEW YEARS WHEN ANACS WAS......Well let's say....A bit lax, such as when a certain "Publishing Company" wound up purchasing ANACS and running it aground in the early 2000's! But again, this was just a short period in ANACS Storyline!.......I myself KNOW THAT NONE OF THE OTHER GRADING COMPANIES COULD EVEN BEGIN TO COMPETE WITH ANACS WHEN IT COMES TO THE HUNDREDS OF DIFFERENT "ATTRIBUTIONS" i.e "BREEN" "OVERTON", "VAM's" ("Van Allen+Malece") AND EVEN THE DIFFERENT VARIETIES THAT EVEN OUR COMMON AMERICAN COINS HAVE!! i.e FB (Full Bands on Merc Dimes) FBL(Full Bell Lines, on Franklin Halves) and EVEN "3 Or 5 FS" (Full Steps on our Jeff Nickels)!.....
    As a matter of fact, I myself have witnessed Graders from the big 2! Running over to the ANACS Booth at the Bourses of more than 1 Show, to (Presumably) ASK one of the ANACS Graders about a "Variety" (Because the NGC OR PCGS GRADERS WERE UNDER THE GUN TO GET A "SHOW WALKTHROUGH GRADING TIER" COINS Verified, and Labeled correctly!!😮😂!!......It's actually pretty funny to watch! As most people there have no idea what's really happening, but I was sort of a "Butt-Head" some years ago, and decided to "Call one of the NON ANACS Guys doing this "OUT"! Only to get the "YOU ARE A JERK" Look from the poor guy that was just doing the true "Diligence" that his Customer deserved! ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE THAT BOTH NGC AND PCGS CHARGE TO HAVE YOUR COIN GRADED AND SLABBED ONSITE AT A SHOW!!......
    Again, you will ALWAYS FIND THE MOST EXPENSIVE COINS IN EITHER A PCGS OR NGC HOLDER, AND THIS IS JUST FACT! AND UP UNTIL VERY RECENTLY, THE MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR 💵 COINS WOULD UNDOUBTEDLY BE IN A PCGS SLAB!.....But low and behold, this is slowly changing! And it seems to be because NGC has now Become the CHOICE OF THE PNG (Professional Numismatics Guild) AND SINCE NCS HAS BECOME THE ONLY CONSERVATOR ALLOWED TO TOUCH THE SMITHSONIAN COIN MUSEUMS COIN COLLECTION!!!.....As thus has REALLY PUT A FEATHER INTO NGC's HAT!.....So needless to say, they are about even now, Well as far as Buyers Premiums are involved!......
    I MYSELF FULLY TRUST ANACS WITH GRADING MULTI-THOUSAND DOLLAR COINS OF MINE!!

      Hi Sean. I recently acquired a collection of Morgan dollars that were accompanied by American Numismatic Certificates. They are graded MS61 to MS64. The previous owner purchased these in 1986. They are in soft clear plastic holders. Have you ever seen any American Numismatic Certificates? The certificates are 8 1/2 x 11. Seems like he really got taken because he paid about $100 each for these and no real key dates. Thanks, Wayne.

      I collect errors so most of my slabs are ANACS, and I can tell you that even I don't trust ANACS on high MS grades. The older holders are more likely to be accurate. Interestingly, ANACS grades more solidly on low circulated grades like G6 and VG8, in my opinion. The ANACS G6 coins will generally have full rims on both sides while PCGS and NGC "G6" coins almost never do.

    I see you like ANACS. My local lcs has a few coins in his shop graded by them. My question is, will the slabs fit into either an NGC box or pcgs box?

    • @jayyk31
      @jayyk31 4 роки тому

      They fit nice in the blue and the black PCGS boxes, a little loose, but fit. Never had an NGC box.... yet.... The older ANACS and ANA slabs are the absolute best and I question why they did away with them?

    Very interesting I have a few old silver dollars too and would love to know more about ANACS....do you actually send your coins somewhere to be graded? Is it safe? How do you know you will get your coins back and not something else? Oh by the way I like old coins but am not a "collector" so it should be gifted to someone who actually appreciates what they're getting. Thanks anyway. Enjoy your posts.

    • @ModernMiner4
      @ModernMiner4  5 років тому

      You do send your coins in to their location in Colorado. It is safe, and you can be sure you’ll get your own coins back. They are excellent at what they do. Plus, I send my coins insured, and then send them back insured. All the info is on their website, I’d highly recommend them!
