True, but at least we got his audio dramas from Big Finish. They are outstanding. You should check them out if you haven't already. (Plus, with "Night of the Doctor" they've been fully canonized now.)
Yes, the 1996 TV movie had its fair share of flaws but I still enjoyed it. A series with McGann as the 8th Doctor was a missed opportunity. "The Night of the Doctor" was terrific and I wish they had revived the series with McGann...oh well.
You know, Paul McGann's 8th Doctor has got to be one of the Doctoriest Doctors I've seen out of the whole lot so far. The movie he appeared in was deeply flawed, but ultimately entertaining, and dang if the man's performance didn't sum up everything that The Doctor is in so short a time.
Um, no. The Doctor is a full Time Lord and has always been, and YOU know it. This movie was made by people who have had nothing to do with the classic or revived series. Their word is not law. If the Doctor were half-human, it'd have come up in the new series. In fact, the Revived Series confirms that he is full Time Lord. He has two TIME LORD PARENTS.
The Doctor was still suffering from Post-Regeneration psychosis during most of this andThe Master doesn't really know. He made that claim based on The Doctor's eyes, but that proves nothing. The claim that The Doctor is half-human is not canon. He IS a full blooded Time Lord. Sorry. The Revival Era's word is canon because it is actually made by BBC. It also has the blessing of the people who made the original series.
Eight's (criminally underrated and ignored) books have my favorite companion of all time, Fitz Kreiner. And I know I'm going to get hate for this, but I'd take him over Charley any day of the week.
This is, in some ways, your most impressive video- simply because you only had the 1996 movie to draw upon... and I think "New York" works well as a metaphoric shorthand for America... so great song choice, too.
I love this video. McGann is "my" Doctor, the one that introduced me to Doctor Who and made me a fan ever since. I love the new show, but I wish they could get McGann for a Time War flashback. I love the audios plays with him.
Wow. Just looking up your youtube channel on a whim. I remember when you first posted this vid. Can hardly believe it was six years ago. Good work on the Mind of Evil colourization. It's one of my favourite episodes and I look forward to owning it on DVD. Keep up the good work.
The sole entry of McGann as the Dr. is finally released on DVD in the US this week, I anxiously await my copy, with my memories of seeing it for the 1st time when I was 11 back 96. All I have to say is that it WAS magic getting 2 see something fans thought was dead back 2 life and Paul is truly a beautiful Doctor, Mccoy was brilliant as well. However, with the misfortune of hindsight, the TV movie is a working definition of the term misfire packing too much into so little time. I love it anyway.
Just watching the footage makes me rethink my decision about watching the movie. The Classics and the New are good enough for me thank you. We should never have stolen it. Anything we try to make our own of is crap! If we hadn't The Doctor would have 4 regenerations left.
Eight is my favourite Doctor! It may be hard to believe, but it is so. He has the best books, audios and comics, which gives him brilliant character development, and a spectacular character arc.
You know, I think this is my favourite of yours. I'm not particularly fond of the movie, but I like McGann's Doctor and you're right - it has truly beautiful cinematography!
I so agree, but I thought that Paul McGann stil does stuff for Big Finish. I heared that there are still 8th Doctor stories being recorded whenever they can get all the actors together, although I may be wrong. But yes, he's an absolutely fantastic Doctor.
The transmat beam would only work once the forcefield had been truned off (from controls within the Tower). When the 3rd Doctor reversed the polarity of the forcefield Borusa was able to beam into the Tower, not before. That's why.
OH YES HE HAS! In Tenth Doc ep. "Human Nature" He transform into a human who has dreams of his life as the Doctor that he keeps in his Journal of Impossible Things, which features All ten incarnations of the Doctor illustrated, and right in the middle is Paul McGann....
completely agree. Considering how many stories the eighth doctor had in other medias while the show was cancelled (almost 80 novels, 4 graphic novels and almost 70 audio plays, latter still counting), I think it's kinda unfair to additionally give him the Time War. I mean, what would be left for the ninth? Three months of battling Slitheen? I like the idea that the eighth regenerated completely unrelated to the time war, and the ninth had a long and happy life with many companions before the war
I'm on wikipedia and there are 2 roumers surrounding the 8th doctor: 1. Another series featuring Paul McGann as the 8th doctor will run along side Series 4 and 2. They will show the 8-9 regeneration next series. Only roumers though, I want the first to happen and when Paul wants to leave, no. 2 to process
Okay, even with the "I'm half-human" thing, Paul McGann was brilliant as the Doctor. (Thankfully we have all of his audio dramas to make up for the fact that he never got any more television time.) But good grief...was the script horrible...
As erratic as Moffet's writing is, its still better than this effort was. For starters, wasting Eric Roberts as the Master. He's brilliant for that role. He could have easily owned it. Sadly the script didn't let him show it.
In the last five minutes maybe. The Terminator impression he did for most of the movie was a bit of a bummer though. I do have to be honest though, I think Roberts was the last good Master. Jacobi barely counts and I never found Simms to be very interesting. And now Gomez seems to be exactly the same except a woman. Whatever happened to the Master being menacing?
+Josh Rush (ChevalierDuReve) There's a way the "half human" thing could work. Seven died on the operating table, during heart surgery, after multiple gunshot wounds. That's going to take a lot of transfusions. There was probably more Type O- in his system than Gallifreyian when he flatlined. Means a very delayed and glitchy regeneration, and could have been the reason Eight was fine with dying in the Time War and why massive intervention by the Sisterhood of Karn was needed to get him regenerating into War. Hell, that could explain the "hybrid" thing the Grand Moff is tossing about these days.
Indeed. He's my 4th favorite doctor. (My favorite being Tom Baker, second being Matt Smith, 3rd being Sylvester McCoy) He represents of what I'd be as a time lord.
Note to UnluckyLeprechaun: I think the new Paul McGann series refers to the official RADIO 7 series. (Which should now be series TWO.) As for the 8-9 regeneration. Maybe as a flashback? Let's hope so!
Not to give you the wrong idea. I'd just like to know where I could get it because iTunes doesn't have that version. I am trying to get it legally. LOL
Poor Paul McGann. I love Eighth Doctor, even if he did kind of play fast and loose with previously established canon. I had halfway hoped they would show us some sort of Eighth Doctor flashbacks during the current pseudo-hiatus from Tenth Doctor. Maybe actually show us the Time War. Alas, I fear it will not be. But Paul totally deserves to get to play Doctor for tv. He was awesome.
I'm not going to lie- I thought about this video when I saw "The Angels Take Manhattan", and when they mentioned why the Doctor rips the last page of every book out (A possible reference to the 8th Doctor's mentioning of The Murder of Roger Acroid missing the last page in "Storm Warning"), they cemented the speculation for me!
At a panel at Chicago TARDIS, Paul said a rather firm YES to coming back for whatever they'd want on TV if he 1. gets the call in the first place and 2. doesn't have to wear The Wig. Fingers crossed Moffat will take advantage of his new position of power to give 8 at least a few more proper minutes onscreen.
Check some of the Big Finish audio dramas with him and put your imagination to good use :) Absolutely incredible and I too would have liked a series with him.
He is the steampunk Doctor and I absolutely love it. Too bad they did not bring him back at least for a series, but I guess the overall idea was that the Doctor had to start clean after the Time war, and at least I tend to consider that he had to regenerate at some point during the War (especially because the Tenth Doctor remarked in Journey's End that the Meta-crisis Doctor had been born in battle, just like his Ninth incarnation was.)
Hi- At first I tried Retrospace and they couldn't get it so then I put it into favorite searches on Trademe and waited a few weeks and it came up - it's Zone 2 + 4 so it might be an English/Welsh import. Good luck :-)
Hi Gigshaft. I'm afraid I don't have any more 'precise' versions available on-line. The complete set of tributes are available on my website, but they are merely embedded UA-cam files, so they would be no different to what you see here.
The movie wasn't the only outing for the 8th Doctor! Audiobooks! People reckon his reign was longer than the 4th Doctor if you take into account all his stories together :)
McGann deserved a full series run. He was a criminally underrated doctor.
True, but at least we got his audio dramas from Big Finish. They are outstanding. You should check them out if you haven't already. (Plus, with "Night of the Doctor" they've been fully canonized now.)
I completely agree. He deserved more.
I’m getting Zagreus and scherzo flashbacks this good boi suffered so much
Yes, the 1996 TV movie had its fair share of flaws but I still enjoyed it. A series with McGann as the 8th Doctor was a missed opportunity. "The Night of the Doctor" was terrific and I wish they had revived the series with McGann...oh well.
This song weirdly fits really well. Love Eight.
Except for the movie's declaration that the Doctor is half human, I found the movie extremely well done.
Apart from him not being half-human?
No, he's not. The Doctor has ALWAYS been stated to be a Time Lord, a FULL Time Lord, in all canon material.

The Revival Era's word is canon because it is actually made by BBC. It also has the blessing of the people who made the original series.
I don't care what anyone says, this movie was awesome
simonster -909 Same I likee it I watched like a year ago and I enjoyed it!
8 stared in the new Doctor Who minisode, Night of the Doctor, it was such a pleasure to see Paul in the role again :3
Listen to his audios

+Morrochben Iothear they are beautiful ain't they
Pacitti Club Johnny yeah they were pretty good. 7 is still my fave tho
We might have gotten only one tv movie out of him, but I loved Paul McGann's performance as the Eighth Doctor.
Paul McGann should have been in the 50th. ..
Imagine if he was the "War Doctor"...
Night of the Doctor doesnt count?
His TARDIS desktop theme rocks !
Honestly... I love Paul McGann.
I liked the movie fine, but he's really great in the audioplays!
Am I the only one who think we need a second movie with him.
Ri br no 5 more
This is the way
i just love this vid
mcgann is my fav doctor anyway
but i just love watching this
it gets better each time i watch it
Paul McGann was so handsome! Probably the best looking doctor.
The Romantic Doctor
You need to update this with The Night of The Doctor :D
brilliant tribute
Paul McGann as the Doctor: drooooolicious!
I just love the scene when the Master is regenerating into the 8th Doctor steeling all of hes remaining lives.
Eight's (criminally underrated and ignored) books have my favorite companion of all time, Fitz Kreiner. And I know I'm going to get hate for this, but I'd take him over Charley any day of the week.
I just need to take a moment to respect someone else who has read the books. Thank you for what must have been ages.
Where can you buy and read them
The TvMovie is grossly underrated
Happy 25th birthday Eight!
This is, in some ways, your most impressive video- simply because you only had the 1996 movie to draw upon... and I think "New York" works well as a metaphoric shorthand for America... so great song choice, too.
OMG It fits perfectly XD
Except the TV Movie took place in San Francisco, not New York but other than that yea, Perfect :D
Very nice.
WOW the more and more i watch this the more and more i know its the 90's. 15 years later.
This song will be in my head
babel---I've been happily finding each of your videos and really enjoying them. Thanks so much!!!
I love this song
I love this video. McGann is "my" Doctor, the one that introduced me to Doctor Who and made me a fan ever since. I love the new show, but I wish they could get McGann for a Time War flashback. I love the audios plays with him.
Good luck getting THAT song out of your head :) Funny tribute for a fun Doctor!
Good clip!:)
Paul is brilliant!:)
Wow. Just looking up your youtube channel on a whim. I remember when you first posted this vid. Can hardly believe it was six years ago. Good work on the Mind of Evil colourization. It's one of my favourite episodes and I look forward to owning it on DVD. Keep up the good work.
I used to hate this song, but I'm more than a little mind-blown at how well the lyrics work with this video.
Also, I REALLY want to see this movie.
fit Eight PERFECTLY!
I love this, i cant get the song out of my head, FANTASTIC,
Definately the best out of the ones you have done. And that is saying a lot! Thank you for sharing your talent with us! :)
"These shoes. They fit perfectilly!", "Whoooo aaaaaam IIIIIIII!" and "I'm half human, in my mother's side."
great job on the video.
I hope he comes back or team up 13 Dr Who
Two words big finish
Just watching the footage makes me rethink my decision about watching the movie. The Classics and the New are good enough for me thank you. We should never have stolen it. Anything we try to make our own of is crap! If we hadn't The Doctor would have 4 regenerations left.
Got my first one, Chimes of Midnight, earlier today. Looking forward to it very much!
Awesome video! Where did you find that particular version of Englishman In New York? I can't seem to find it anywhere, and I really like it...
Excellent! Well done. Great song choice and well matched with the footage.
This is the best music usage in a vid ever.
Eight is my favourite Doctor! It may be hard to believe, but it is so. He has the best books, audios and comics, which gives him brilliant character development, and a spectacular character arc.
Did I somehow not comment on this before? My bad. Kudos to you, Babel for giving Paul Equal Time.
11th Doctor = actual Englishmen in New York. "The Angels Take Manhattan"
Same with the first in the chase
Eighth Doctor maybe Englishman in New York too, cause his last incornation(7th Doctor) regenerated in San Francisco
Nope the Eighth Doctor's Movie took place entirely in San Francisco
TehMondasianSpartan oh yeah I forget about that
Eight really did feel like a traveler abroad getting caught up in something.
i keep saying it but PAUL MCGANN is my favourite ever doctor
Too bad Paul McGAnn didn't have more then one movie...I really liked him, while he lasted.
just bloomin' great!
You know, I think this is my favourite of yours. I'm not particularly fond of the movie, but I like McGann's Doctor and you're right - it has truly beautiful cinematography!
Yeah, when I was watching it, as soon as I heard it, I thought of this video! :)
perfect music
i want to see more of him... he has a lot of books and audio books
Love the drum beat halfway through.
this song was actually in dr who as well Englishmen in New York
Yup, it was all done in Vancouver.
top quality dr who material mate!!
nuff said
awesome song!
@cheapscate7 it's by The Flying Pickets
I so agree, but I thought that Paul McGann stil does stuff for Big Finish. I heared that there are still 8th Doctor stories being recorded whenever they can get all the actors together, although I may be wrong. But yes, he's an absolutely fantastic Doctor.
I hope they release the Eighth Doctor's movie in america soon; I can't wait to see it on the big (well, bigger) screen!
Happy 50th Birthday Paul. A great Doctor.
For the 45th or 50th anniversary would be so bloody fantastic!
When I heard this song on tonight's episode I wondered if perhaps someone working on the show had been inspired by this video.
The transmat beam would only work once the forcefield had been truned off (from controls within the Tower). When the 3rd Doctor reversed the polarity of the forcefield Borusa was able to beam into the Tower, not before. That's why.
I live in New Zealand and have it on a DVD that says Zone 2 and 4 (NZ & Australia) like all my other Doctor Who DVDs. Hard to find but worth it.
The song was in 'The Angels have Manhattan'...
OH YES HE HAS! In Tenth Doc ep. "Human Nature" He transform into a human who has dreams of his life as the Doctor that he keeps in his Journal of Impossible Things, which features All ten incarnations of the Doctor illustrated, and right in the middle is Paul McGann....
on dvd, or you can try to find a used vidoetape. Warning: it was released in Region 2 -- UK format only.

+Josh Rush (ChevalierDuReve) what about Rodger Delgado peter Pratt Geoffrey beavers and Anthony ainley

Masked man 66 the doctor only said he was half human once in the movie. It's never been fully confirmed
Couldn't agree more could have been 9 could have been 8 could have been both.
Indeed. He's my 4th favorite doctor. (My favorite being Tom Baker, second being Matt Smith, 3rd being Sylvester McCoy) He represents of what I'd be as a time lord.

This is so fun.

Yay Babel! Another brilliant DW tribute. I love your stuff (and the versions of the songs you find...how do you do that??)

Duno about downloads, but the DVD is available in both the US and UK.
Check some of the Big Finish audio dramas with him and put your imagination to good use :) Absolutely incredible and I too would have liked a series with him.
I'd say his is actually one of the best Doctor's
What's the band who covered this
Flying Pickets
BBC!
Timewar-movie with this guy!
NOW!
He is the steampunk Doctor and I absolutely love it.
