Andrew, I'm sitting here watching a jewelry channel in Indonesia. Props to all both of ya'll. These guys are doing everything you say is really "not the way" to do jewelry and your way is so much more refined but these guys are busting it out! A guy is cutting all the links for his woven bracelet with shears. He does not even mix the borax with water! He just gets the silver hot and touches it to the borax, sitting in a little white lump on the counter dry as a bone and solders! He does not cut little pallions, he simply uses a long strip of solder and gets his links red then touches the solder to them like an engineer would do with lead solder and a solder gun. All those little links are not sawed through to make a tight joint; oh no, they are all cut with shears and he solders them lickety split! It is so funny watching these guys knock it out! I watch your channel religiously and you are my master and show me the way, but these guys are certainly getting the job done. It is hilarious to see the difference in technique.
My wife and I have been slowly collecting materials and equipment to start jewelry making. I just discovered your channel today, and I have to say I'm blown away. Your skill is mind boggling to me, and it's incredible to watch your years of experience at work as you masterfully manipulate these tools and products. I've subscribed as of this morning and I will continue to watch your incredible videos. I've only seen a few so far but it is an incredible inspiration for me to learn this craft. This ring is truly gorgeous by the way, I can only hope to be half as good at this craft as you are, one day!
Hi Andrew! I am a budding silversmith who is referred to as 'self-taught' - but for each and every step (soldering! Yikes!!) you have been my teacher. I am in your debt!
Game changer - got a Bezel Setting punch set, and I can’t believe the difference. “I can’t get on with bezel pushers at all” - I hear you Andrew. Hallelujah for this vid - thank you!!
I can't thank you enough for your simple way of showing all of us the how to perfect our jewelry making. I am self taught and tend to over solder. As another person said, you help smooth out our frustrations. You teach people to slow down and take our time on each and every step. Thank you for taking the time to teach.
Andrew - I want to thank you for passing along your experience and expertise to others. Your presentation is concise and VERY helpful. I'm a self taught artist, 58 years old and don't have the resources for professional training - so I'm very grateful to have access to such excellent training :-)
Fantastic! Very clear explanation. I have just purchased that very same bezel punch set and this has cleared up lots of questions for me. It's so much easier to understand when you can watch someone else take you through the process in a methodical manner. I am now excited to try my first bezel instead of putting it off, thank you so much.
Thank you yet again Andrew. Beware of hammering bezel setters.Yours have a nice thick outer wall. Many years ago I bought a set of OMO Italian ones (not cheap) and when I tapped it a little too hard, I took a chunk out of my most used one. Very thin outer walls on them for other reasons. People should be aware of the difference. I do understand that you can't cover every angle. I'm just making someone aware hopefully so it wont happen to them :) Thanks again.
I have learned more from watching your videos than I did in my jewelry class! Your expertise and insight is beyond compare. Thank you for posting these videos.
Another great video. You have the teaching knack of making things very clear. That is a rare talent. Thanks for doing these. Inspiring and informative.
I just got a set. I think they are identical to yours. Exactly the same 18 punch set, same box, same printing. I test punched one bezel and I noticed that the punch ground off some of the bezel and marred it. I'm in the process of sanding them down/polishing them so they will move smoothly over the bezel. Bad move? Good move? I notice when you use the tool there is no silver dust. Mine made some filings/dust. The cones have deep rings in them. Grrrr. Please let me know. I've only completed 3. Thank you. Love your videos. Very technical, very detailed, very informative. You don't miss anything! P.S. I bought a Knew Concepts aluminum saw with the tensioner, but skipped the swivel. I already have an 8" saw frame. No need. This thing is a freeeeking miracle! Wow! Worth every penny. I love it! Glad you reviewed it.
It must've been annoying to find your new tools are grooved! (I once bought a nylon cone hammer which left marks with its seams - when the sole purpose of a nylon hammer is not to leave marks). Curious what brand you purchased, as I was just about to investigate setting tools myself and want something which will work the first time.
@@Vikette1000 Mine are a no name brand that I got on eBay. This is the description. Professional Jeweler's 18pc Bezel Jewel Setting Punch Set 0.75 to 7.75mm $33.95 - Punch sizes 0.75,1,1.25,1.5,1.75,2, 2.25, 2.5, 2.75, 3, 3.25, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5mm There is a set out there for like $29.95 but has different punch sizes in the set ranging from 2-9 mm. I might have to have that set later for the 9mm!
Hi Andrew! Thank you, so much for your excellent tutorials. I made three of the rings without the setting last night and I'm excited now to go on the bezel setting once my punches arrive. You are a gifted teacher and I'm so glad you have chosen to share your knowledge and experience with us. Cheers!
Thank you so much for making these videos and having all of the educational information on your website as well. You are an incredible teacher, clear, concise, and detailed in all of your presentations. For those of us who live in areas that do not have access to live courses and instruction this is a very valuable instructional format. I find that your inclusion of discussions of what can go wrong in situations and how to avoid or fix errors along with tool selection very useful. Not something that you often see in the plethora of shorter videos published by others.
Wow, I've really enjoyed watching your video tuition Andrew. I have an HND in silversmithing and jewellery making and I don't feel as if I was taught properly on many techniques, especially stone setting. I wish I'd been your apprentice! I would have learnt far more quickly and more thoroughly. :-)
Hi Andrew, thank you for your lessons! I'm new into jewelry making and since I started, a year ago, I follow your lessons to improve my skills and learn some tricks!
Thanks Andrew, this is lovely and clear. Interesting what you said about the rockers, I'm a bit hit and miss with them myself depending on the wall thickness of the bezel.
This is great! Someone gave me a beautiful bezel set diamond ring in 18K gold. It was fascinating to watch you do this. I would love to be able to do this. I will certainly revisit this tutorial if I ever do. Thank you. You make learning fun! 🙂
Explained very well. Thank you Next time you film, move that wooden box with the bezel pushers. Couldn't see what you were doing on the long film shots
Tha is for the video Andrew. Can you get the same look and effect without the punches? I'm just starting out in bezel settings and I have the basic tools for this, but I dont have the punches.
I just want to say thank you so much fro all the informations you give us and I would love to see some of your work your personal designs for customers you are an amazing teacher and I would love to be one of your students
Hi Andrew, thank you for your wonderful clear lessons. Could I request one on bezel setting oval / pear / square shaped stones? Particularly how to manage those corners....
Great videos. I really appreciate the explanations and reasoning. Is there any way to change the camera angle for the close ups so that the work detail isn't blocked by your hand? Many thanks
Great video , I would love to see the actual bits when you’re drilling or grinding . Have you considered setting your zoomed-in camera on the opposite side, so your fingers won’t get in the way since you’re right handed ?
Excellent teacher is Andrew he goes into all details just the videoing is a pain, I know what he looks like and can hear his voice, just don’t want to see so much of him talking, more tools work etc is fine. It puts me off I go to other teachers so many times as he annoys me.
Hello Andrew I’m new to your videos and do enjoy your vlogs as well. Can you explain why you drilled the hole in the ring before you cut the tube? Kind thanks for doing this.
Hi Andrew, I love your movies. In this particular movie you placed a woodbox just in front of your hands (Left side from my point of view) so we can’t what you are doing.
Wonderful instructional video! I have recently created a band similar to your’s. I am now inspired to try and set one of my Montana Sapphires I mined a few summers ago. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Thank you so much Andrew! I always cut my tubing to the desired lenghts than soldered it onto the ring, that is obviously a stupid mistake. Can't tell how much 3mm tube settings i lost while filing those little bastards. Now i know the right way to do it
Hi Andrew Love your videos but these burnishers are all round. How did I get a nice set on an oval setting? I use the step bezel to set faceted stones but always have trouble getting the finish nice. The metal becomes to hard to bend.
Thank you for making this video. I may keep my UA-cam premium just for this channel. I’m working on this project today and I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I think the outside wall is too thick to be pushed over the edge of the stone. I am using everything you have in the video. I also have the large burnisher graver, the one you use for gypsy settings. I’m going to try again this afternoon. I hope I set the stone. Wish me luck 🍀
Andrew, I must say when I first saw your tutorials when I first began the process of teaching myself to make jewelry, I thought you were from another planet. You techniques seemed to be in direct conflict with what the status quo were teaching. But one video caught my attention and I was truly impressed. It wasn't a complicated setting or an exotic metal fusion or anything like that at all. It was how to shape and solder a ring. Simple thing to do, right? Everyone else said to bring the two ends together flat, solder then hammer into shape. You, however, debunked that technique with common sense. You suggested to form the ring on the mandrel with an overlap of the wire, cut the wire through the overlap, position the freshly cut and matching ends, file if necessary and solder. The fact that I don't have to wrestle the metal out of shape, then wrestle it back into shape while trying not to stretch it or if it has a pattern, to not distort or damage it through hammering and of course filing and sanding to remove hammer marks, it saves loads of time because it simplifies the process. Now I think you're a genius. I guess being from another planet has advantages...alien technology...lolol. In short, thank you for sharing your brilliant techniques and for cutting out the clutter of extra work that needs not to be done to produce excellent results. You made me a better jeweler. Cheers!
I love your channel. So clear and easy to understand. Could you possibly show how to make a bevel that is not round. I want to use sea glass that are all different shapes. I would love to make a ring with different pieces of sea glass but I am struggling with the bevel and sizes to solder. Any advise you could give would be fantastic. Again thank you. These are wonderful !
Thank you, the video set now makes a nice little project. This simple project lends it’s self to many variations. Any chance of a similar little project with a shared claw setting on a square profile shank?
Thank you Andrew for a brilliant set of videos on ring making and bezel setting. I have two questions: first, could you measure your stone height and cut your tube to the correct length before soldering eliminating having to saw the tube after its soldered on to the ring, and second, could you start cutting the seat for your stone with a round bur first, which would hopefully help you center the seat you're cutting? Cheers Dee
I was wondering Andrew if you believe there is a difference in the chrome punches and the black unpolished punches as it pertains to the finished product and would you recommend polishing the black ones yourself? Im afraid if I remove metal to give them a nice finish I might change the angle of the cone inside the punch. At that point I might as well put them in the garbage. As a home faceter, I want to set stones for jewelry. Enjoyed your video. Thanks for teaching.
You have built my confidence in jewelry making 10 fold! I love your passion and skill!
This is by far the most generous channel I follow! I've learned more from your channel than from a paid in-person course. Thank you so much!

just turned 50, sold a little metal now and then a few years ago, now thanks to your wonderful vlogs in getting back in the saddle
have watched EVERY one of your videos (except the blog ones) and think you are the BEST online instructional videos on You Tube. Congrats!!!!
Fantastic! Very clear explanation. I have just purchased that very same bezel punch set and this has cleared up lots of questions for me. It's so much easier to understand when you can watch someone else take you through the process in a methodical manner. While I am not a Jewelry maker, Many of the tools and procedures that I watch you perform help me in my crafts. Thank you Andrew B.
Practice practice practice. It looks so small to work on. Looking forward to trying some bezel setting. Those tools seem a must have to me.
Very professional, but easy to understand for beginners. Thank you!

Good reminder for bezel setting techniques
Thanks for showing how to use a bezel setter.
It would be nice if the video series for the same topic are numbered, It would make it easier to find the series. Great videos!
Another great video. You have the teaching knack of making things very clear. That is a rare talent. Thanks for doing these. Inspiring and informative.
I guess bezel setting is what we call chanel setting. I want to get some bezel setting punches. I ll start with Riogrande. thanks Andrew.
Love from across the pond! I appreciate all of the time and effort you have put into making these videos, they’re invaluable!
Best jewelry tutorial channel ever! Thanks.
Fabulous tutorials so helpful and clear. Your advice on buying the right tools is spot on thanks

Fantastic. Great pictures of what you do and excellent presentation, easy to understand.

My three favourites too.
Critically fantastic!
Haven't done these. Thanks for instruction. I'll start back at the first video.

'm guessing there's alot of us that can't afford.

Explained very well. Thank you

Tnk you for sharring your video sir! Awsome!!! Your legend. I do also stone set but idont have enuogh equipment for stone set. 🙃

Great videos. I really appreciate the explanations and reasoning. Is there any way to change the camera angle for the close ups so that the work detail isn't blocked by your hand?
Many thanks
These videos are so much better on 2x speed.
(And they were pretty good to start with).
Excellent work!!
Great video , I would love to see the actual bits when you’re drilling or grinding . Have you considered setting your zoomed-in camera on the opposite side, so your fingers won’t get in the way since you’re right handed ?
I agree we need to see more of the actual wok and tools not Andrews face.
Excellent teacher is Andrew he goes into all details just the videoing is a pain, I know what he looks like and can hear his voice, just don’t want to see so much of him talking, more tools work etc is fine. It puts me off I go to other teachers so many times as he annoys me.
Thanks so much. This was way better and I learned much more than in my my 1 week (45 hour) stone setting class.

100 👍🏻you deserve that . Thank you
Andrew, I must say when I first saw your tutorials when I first began the process of teaching myself to make jewelry, I thought you were from another planet.
Cheers!
Love your videos. I am learning a lot
Great Video, something I am going to have a go myself, I have just started jewellery making so really love your Video's Andrew
Thank you, the video set now makes a nice little project. This simple project lends it’s self to many variations. Any chance of a similar little project with a shared claw setting on a square profile shank?
Great video! IL be using your skills provided.
Excellent info and explanation . thank you very much for your tutorials.
Great job on all of your videos, thank you!
Cheers
Dee
Hi Andrew, thanks a lot. Is it possible to use these bezel setting tools to an oval stone too, maybe using a bigger setting tool or so?
Learning a lot. Thank you!
You have created a jeweler in me one lesson at a time. Its been my dream since childhood to be a jeweler and for that I am grateful. Stay GOLD Benchman........
