This is so ironic for me… in 5th grade there was a girl in my class named Emma and she was the smartest kid in the whole school. She would always get the answers correctly and never get in trouble. I was so jealous thinking “I wish I was her” and one day I talked to my mom about it during dinner and even though my mom agreed Emma was exceptionally smart, she told me something I didn’t know. Emma had struggled with social anxiety all throughout Elementary and had no friends. Emma’s mom told my mom that Emma constantly talks about how jealous she is of me being a social butterfly. Now me and Emma are great friends and I learn so much from her as she does from me. Idk I just thought this was a cool story

I wish I had teachers like this growing up. believe it or not all my teachers bullied me and skipped out on giving me medals and awards I deserved. It was heart breaking as a child to be taught the hard way that no matter how hard you try it doesn't mean anything. I really love the end message. Teachers like you truly make a positive impact on kids. I loved my preschool teacher and I remember her to this day because of how amazing she was.
My parents always wanted me to be a nurse or a doctor because “they are smart and they make good money” but the thought of doing that didn’t make me happy, I always wanted to be a teacher for elementary school but my parents said I “wouldn’t make enough money” even though… just because they don’t make as much money as a doctor or a nurse in most cases, it’s not like teachers make NO money. Anyways I told my freshman Spanish teacher about this and she said to go after what makes me happy because that’s really what matters, and to think of how many lives I would change as a teacher, and that really inspired me. Anyways now I told my parents that I didn’t care if they supported me or not because I didn’t want to waste my life being something that isn’t what I want. I never really cared about it studying when I thought I was going to be a nurse because I didn’t care if I got into a good school or not because I knew I wouldn’t be happy either way. Now I study super hard all the time so I can get into a good school to become a teacher. Remember that if you don’t want to become what your parents or friends or family want you to become, then don’t. It’s not worth be less happy than you could be just to make someone else proud.

I encouraged him though, because he's on the spectrum and he misses social cues, so paying attention to what other people do and modeling behavior after people making good choices is awesome for him. But, definitely keep the ponytail kid! 😆

Reminds me of when i first met this girl who was better than me in every way. I wished i was like her just so i could make my parents proud, and i was always disappointed when she got a higher grade than me. But now we been best friends for a few years despite how different we are, and i finally accepted myself for who i am.
