    We went in January 2023. My husband was sick as a dog, as well as half of the other passengers. I was totally fine. It was the same coming back. Definitely Drake Shake. We took Hurtigruten- it was amazing.

    Just FYI, all Antarctic cruises do not leave from Ushuaia. Some leave from Puerto Williams. So sorry you experienced such a rough Drake Passage! I’m going in 2024 and will not leave home without my seasickness medicine.

    Just did the inaugural Chilean Fjords cruise on this ship….and had 7 meter waves one night…the crew said the biggest was Drakes with 9 meter waves. Now wave height is just one aspect of how bad it is, frequency and length, rollers, etc. are all factors in how bad it can get.
    I can tell you that this ship shuddered at times, almost feeling like it was stopped for a second, hard to walk and no way you could shower.
    This is a sturdy ship built for up to 10 meters, after that, well one rouge wave and you have a very bad day.

    That is ruff! I watched another documentary on it where it said by the early 1900's some 800 ships had been lost on the Drake Passage and more than 10,000 sailors lost their lives.
    I imagine those waves just finally pound those old school sail boats to pieces or flood them.

    The second day they had to spend 4 hours in mandatory meetings and the third day they had to spend 5 hours in mandatory meeting. To many rules and to regulated. At least for me.

    *Hello, I'm your 173rd Thumbs up & joining your YT family. I enjoy traveling videos with Scenery. Those waves are wild. I get sea sick, so I can't go on cruises. This is why I enjoy when others share places I'll never see any other way. Great Share. 😊😊😊* Sharon in SC

    • @travelexplore9355
      @travelexplore9355  Рік тому +3

      That is a good idea if you want to avoid the seasickness. The expedition boat is small and bounces a lot. In my observation, more than 90% of passengers were seaseack, including me. But the seasick pillls helped.

      There was an option to camp overnight on the actual land of Antarctica, in the snow. It was an additional charge and some people signed for it. They had to dig a hole in the snow, set up a camp, and sleep in a sleeping bag.
