Old Ghan was running then and Quorn was busy town...Ghan services ... when it reoppened was there as a witness. ...disaster struck day one a big Ghan car in consist derailed at summit ...which was operating limit early years...years later was on a special steam week end trip from Pboro to Quorn. ....Picchi Richi were transfering rolling stock up to Quorn from Pboro.. ...one of the final steam trips between these 2 places... (years b4 steamtown) Departure early from Pboro on Saty morn ..arrived Quorn mid anoon.. lunch ..then out to Workshops only one shed there then. ..during that late afternoon we were all put to work sandpapering a carriage...that night i faintly recall bunkering down in a sleeping car....next morn ride on railway..b4 bus transfer via Wilmington to Pboro...collect car home to Adelaide....it was good to see Phil Smythes grandson on loco maint....Phyl was a stalwart of AHRs...who rebuilt an F class Adelaide Tank which saw very little use when recommissioned ..by those who were responsible for its future...politics..i assume...regards..ted.

Hi Ted, I believe you may be referring to my grandpa John who was heavily involved at SHR in the 80’s/90’s and My father Glenn Smythe, Glenn lead the team responsible for the F classes restoration in 1995.
