The perfect merging of punchy synth and atmospheric guitar and a singer who can actually belt it out. Didn't know back then how lucky we were in the 80's. Ain't that always the case with passing time.

Definitely one of the mega bands of the 80s and into the 90s. They produced a very individual style which combined a range of styles. Proved highly popular and still are..

A law student then, when I first heard the song, I heard it on the train from Athens to Komotini. The years when everything seemed hopeful. There was a road of time. Now, for so many years, Judge, I am not weeping for what I did not live, but for what I caused so that the people who loved me would not live. The song is with divine music, and every night writing down the decisions for the people, I become that new 17-year-old, the first year of law school, who travels by train and sees city lights pass by. Blessed are the people who live their days in love, there is nothing left and you do not take anything else with you. Thanks to my favorite band for my favorite song, unfortunately, I will never listen to them live here in Greece and and this is a complaint from my life. PAOK F.C. THESSALONIKI

Saw this amazing gift to music that is the Minds in 84 at the Caird Hall in Dundee....what a gig and what a band....outstanding...and Charlie Burchill still a guitaring influence to this 53 year old...

My favorite song by Simple Minds easily. Reminds me of the summer of 1985 West Germany but spent the most special week of my life on this one week trip in West Berlin. She had eyes like large, blue (azule ?) pools. Love at first sight 35 years ago. I can never forget, even if I wanted.

@@paulalexander633 I suppose she went her way. Heck, I would have followed her to Finland like some lost puppy. But I suspect she had a boyfriend. The different languages thing did not help. My German was awful!! But we stayed in touch by mail and these broken German, transantlantic phone calls. I graduated college just the writing and phone calls stopped. I was trying to be polite and do the right thing if she already had a boyfriend. I have a Finnish friend and his eyes are similar. Reminds me so much of her I try hard not to think about it. What do they call that, un-requieted love? Take care Mr. Alexander.

I will always be grateful for them coming to play at the Manly Vale Hotel in Sydney (twice) and so should they be grateful. We went through an era together that no one could dream about now. Some of us, somewhere in summertime.
Saw them in Seattle last weekend (their first visit since 1984!) They performed a very long set, Jim Kerr is a genuinely generous frontman and Charlie Burchill is the man.

I've only just started discovering Simple Minds; I think this is my favourite song so far in my discovery. The guitar reminds me a bit of Marillion (who I love) and U2, but they've definitely get their own thing going on.
