  • PRIVILEGED LEADERSHIP BY FRANCIS ABBAH
"No leader owns the people he or she leads but God. Hence, leadership is never a right but a privilege to serve others."- Francis Abbah
No leader owns the people he or she leads but God. Hence, leadership is never a right but a privilege to serve others.
When we see leadership as a right and that we own the people we lead, we will treat others wrongly. However, when we see leadership as a privilege given to us, we will genuinely serve the people we lead.
Ownership in leadership most likely leads to the mindset of entitlement where a leader believes that he or she has the unquestionable rights to lead others, especially lead others as he or she wills.
The truth about leadership is that, there is always an element of accountability demanded from leaders. Leaders are accountable in how they lead others to themselves, their people or to higher human authorities then ultimately to God (even with self-leadership, we are still accountable to those closest to us and to God in how well we lead ourselves on a daily basis).
When we are accountable to our people and to higher authorities, it means that the opportunity to lead others can be taken away from us when we fail to do the right thing. That, in itself, makes leadership a privilege and a responsibility bestowed upon each one of us.
Hence today, I challenge you to lead your people well. I challenge you to be diligent in how you treat and lead others. I challenge you to also lead yourself well. Because truly, leadership is, and has always been, a privilege to serve others.
