Just got a baby Sinaloan Milk Snake but I’ve had a Snow Corn snake for 4 years and she is the calmest snake ever. Great video though and definitely listen to his suggestions 👍
The thing with aspen bedding is the following: the everage humidity should be between 50 and 65% ( depending if on shed period it can be slightly higer or use a humid hide ) but because of the humidity level and the temprature ( basking spot 31°c and cool spot 22°c ) the aspen will start to mold. The very very best will always be natural like for example the brand " eco earth " or " exo terra : jungle earth ". AND throw in some springtails and isopods. Those insects clean up the poop and feed the soil too for if you go full vivarium. ( which i always recommend to do so for all the benefits of the animal )
A good informative video, just picked up my 2nd corn snake last week. A male snow tessera to breed with my animalistic female in a year or so. They make awesome pets. My little snow loves to strike at me every chance he gets lol hopefully he will tame down abit the more he gets used to me.

Hey, yes I have a few recent videos on this topic. Ive made a juvenile corn snake setup as well as an adult corn snake enclosure setup. I also have a video where I setup my ball pythons enclosure. Throughout the videos i give tips & guidelines on how to setup your enclosure properly. I unfortunately cant link those videos but they are recent on my channel you should be able to find them. Every video I watch about baby corn snakes says they are crazy and don’t like to be handled but mine doesn’t run from me in its inclosure and enjoys just laying on my chest…I know what you are saying is accurate, I think I just got lucky lol.
Ahhh I feel awful, I’ve already fucked up ! I got my corn snake two days ago. I have the tank perfectly set up! But not even 24hrs after getting it I’ve been handling it, going in the tank & backing out after it’s shaken it’s tail, then back in & grabbing it. Now it has just buried itself under the substrate & has yet to come out. Thank you so much for this information I wish I really did watch this before bringing my baby home. & I say it because it’s 6mths & unsexed.
Its okay dont worry too much! Snakes are very forgiving & hardy. Give him a couple days and then start the handling/ taming process and all will be good 😊!
Mine don't seem aggressive just the not knowing what to expect when bites is the bit that gets me but hopefully he don't ever bite me lol love all snakes they are really intriguing and fascinate me
I have 2 corn snakes in mind. Also thank you for this video :) I want the gold dust striped and the striped het amel....they are both so cool. I think striped ones are awesome. Also when should you clean the corn snake cage
It depends/ do you mean half of the enclosure is aspen and another half is coconut fiber? Or do you mean a mix of both spread around the entire enclosure. If you mix & spread both around the enclosure id say it could work if you make sure to keep up with spot cleaning as coco fiber can hold humidity & moisture but since it will be mixed with the aspen it may cause mold issues overtime. As long as you keep the substrate as clean as possible i dont see why it wouldnt work. I think itll look really natural
Corn snakes have a long life span so I wouldn't recommend to anyone who isn't willing to invest in their care long term. I purchased my 2 corn snakes as hatchlings and they are now 22 & 23 years old.
I have 2 a baby and adult in the same cage together with no problems. They curl up together like siblings with no problems. When there hungry they come up to the top of the tank for eating.
Hey! I have few questions if you don't mind: 1. Is there like specific size of the cage you have to get for them? 2. Does it hurt if they bites you? 3. Does the cage have to have some lights?
There is a guideline of sorts to follow when picking out an enclosure for your corn snake. The minimum tank size for an adult corn snake is a 40 gal enclosure. The dimensions of a 40gal are 36L by 18W by 16H (inches). The bite does not hurt at all! If you do manage to get bitten it feels similar to a paper cut, maybe even less pain than that haha. And no, my enclosures do not have any special lights or LED lights for viewing purposes. You could definitely add some lights if you wish but make sure they are not super powerful because they will overheat the enclosure
Well, the size depends on the age/size of the snake. I find 48"x24"x24" is a good size for adults. The rule of thumb I go by is snake length x half of the snake lenth x half of the snake length for snakes that are not aboreal or have specific requirements. If you get a baby or sub-adult you should start small. If you don't want to purchase a new enclosure every time the snake grows a certain amount you can buy an adult enclosure and divide it with a fitting piece of wood for example. Putting a hatchling in too big of an enclosure can be detrimental to the animal. Not really....they have small teeth and they will only tag you and not hold onto you in most cases. Handle your snake carefully and regularly outside of feeding them, be confident and gentle and they won't bite you once they are a bit older and less scared of everything. It can happen, but even if it does.....it's not a big deal. I'd be more afraid of my cat scratching me than of a corn snake biting. If you are really really scared....you can go for snakes that are even less likely to hurt you, like egg-eating snakes. They have other cons, but being bitten is not really something to keep you from keeping snakes in general if you'd want to otherwise. You need the proper temperature at the correct distribution, which can be achieved with heat map setups etc. So lighting is not required for survival, but proper lighting and a day/night cycle is recommended. You should read up on how to properly set up the enclosure with thermostats etc. Unreliable or wrongly set up heat lamps/mats can hurt or kill the snake. But there is a lot of information on what to get and how to put it together.
A 4x2x2’ enclosure is the minimum when they’re full grown, 40 gallons is much too small for an adult. Young snakes can absolutely be put in a large enclosure as long as there’s enough clutter and plant coverage, and not too much open space. Heat mats are not a good heat source, definitely use overhead heating/lighting. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option. They produce IRA and IRB like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin. Linear UVB is beneficial as well.
Is beach sand safe to use for bedding for corn snakes? I wanted to use a unique bedding and read that sand can be used, but I’ve never seen anyone put sand.
I have a baby corn snake, he is super harmless and never bit in his life! He is also very calm but not too active. And I named him Cornflake :) He’s a brown corn snake. :)
Thanks man I got a baby corn and it seems to get stressed out easily if I handle it specially because it hides most of the time it has been hiding under the water bowl fissure and it’s hard to get it outta there
Also... My Cornsnake snake has not been acting his normal self and not moving much. Also he wouldn’t eat twice recently which really concerns me. But about 2 1/2 weeks ago he was quite well fed. Do you have any opinions on this ? I don’t have any money for the animal hospital at this time. thank you
A gradient can’t be achieved in a small enclosure, but they should absolutely have a gradient. I’d imagine he controls the temperature with a thermostat.
hello i'm looking into getting one. I would like to assk what kind of heat sorce (e.g lamps/ heating pads) do you use , if you use any for the baby corn snakes that are in the tub.
A heat lamp (ideally a halogen flood bulb) is the most natural and beneficial heat source. With a tub you’d need to put mesh into the lid to use overhead heating/lighting.
Yes, i use under tank heaters. Because all 3 are placed next to each other im using a 6 foot repti heat tape. You can actually keep them in bin enclosures their entire life! Bins come in many different sizes. Some are huge! They are also very affordable.
I have a hatchling had him for about 2 weeks now and every time I try to get him out to hold he wants to continue to bite me any suggestions on how I can tame him down
Hey! Ive actually recently made a video on how to handle your corn snake & i discuss this topic & give many tips along the way. What I can tell you is dont hesitate when you go to pick up your snake. You just have to go for it and not be afraid of your snake. Check out the video I made on this topic, I think itll really help you out
@@ThatsSoReptii thanks ill.watch the video. But I never hesitate in picking it up I have kept snakes for years and this one is the first corn snake I have ever owned and he just wants to bite repeatedly hopefully I can get him tame to where he will tolerate handling
I have a corn snake but it really really doesn’t want me to hold it. I would really love to it’s beautiful, but it doesn’t want me to hold it. Please help!!
Example: I get 1 year old corn snake I keep the same container which will be good for an adult Will that be good? Or do I need a smaller one and then get a bigger one once it ages?
I've had my big boy for 10 years. Got him when he was earthworm size. First snake ever lol he was so sassy. But I did handle him a lot. He really bonded to me. If anyone wanted to hold him he would do everything to get back to me. As soon as he was with me he would calm down immediately. He's still the same way. Corns are so sweet.
I just received a beautiful male juvenile corn snake from South Mountain reptiles. I'm happy I watched this video. Instinctively I can tell I shouldn't bother him right now. He is really scared and hiding in his hide and not coming out even though it's been 3 days. I feel reassured that I am doing the right thing to let him chill out till he is less scared. My other corn snake is a baby and weirdly enough she isn't so scared as the juvenile male. I only had her a few days but I left her alone for 1 day and now she is super active and I can see her exploring her enclosure and hold her a little. I can't wait till a few days from now when the male isn't so scared.
Youre doing great! I agree with you, each corn snake is different! One of my male baby corn snakes is out and about pretty much 24/7. He doesnt even sleep in his hides anymore. Meanwhile i have a female baby corn snake the same age as he is and she will throw a fit if i try to hold her. Once you do take him out, get to know how he reacts in your hands. Work on taming him down and he will be an amazing snake! Good luck
Hey man, know this video is a year old but I’ll still leave this comment. I’ve been wanting a snake ever since my stepsister got a ball python when I was around 10. Corn snakes have always caught my eye because of their relatively easy care and I think they are BEAUTIFUL. I’m 21 now and finally pulling the trigger on a snake. I’ve got all of my gear ordered and the last thing is the snake itself. Any good recommendations for breeder websites that typically have a good selection of morphs available?
sadly where I live (& most of canada if im not mistaken) doesnt really have many online breeders that readily ship snakes around the country. The weather is just too drastic at times & shipping alone would be hundreds of dollars. Sorry im no help for specific websites, but just do quick google research on reputable breeders in your country. Read reviews from other customers, look at what morphs the breeder has to offer & once you see a snake that catches your eye then go for it. Best of luck to you
as someone else said, its not easy to convince someone who doesnt like snakes but it is possible. make sure you are well educated on their care (which by the looks of it, you are doing research which is good). this way your parents will see that you actually care and want a corn snake. most parents are afraid their child will end up neglecting their pets and leaving it on their parents to take care of them. make sure your mom knows that you actually really do want this snake. and yeah pretty much like julien said show her cool pictures of different morphs, maybe show her your favorite kind of corn snake, etc Good Luck!
Zoo med shredded snake aspen is my top choice although it is a little pricey. You can buy bulk bags of small animal aspen (made for hamsters, rabbits, etc) and save money that way. Just make sure to never use pine or cedar wood shavings as they have harmful and toxic aromas/ smells that can harm your snakes respiratory system.
Great question! They are VERY low maintenance and have no problem going 1-2 weeks without interaction, but you will however need someone to change& replenish the water bowl as it evaporates quickly (and they drink a lot of water!). Your snake will be fine going 2 weeks without food, and most 1 week trips are perfectly fine, as younger snakes only eat once per week. Again, you can leave them unattended but you will need someone to fill up their water bowl :)
Ideally you should have some sort of heating in your enclosure. A ceramic heater or a heat mat with a thermostat. Snakes are cold-blooded and need external heat sources to provide the energy for digesting food.
It depends on your preference. Would you like to raise & watch your baby snake grow into an adult, or would you like to skip all of that & maybe adopt an adult corn snake? Its really up to preference. You should be spot cleaning urine/poop weekly. If you see any soiled bedding just remove it and discard. You should clean the entire enclosure every 5-6 weeks (in combination with weekly spot cleanings
it depends, each snake is different but you can always take them out during the day even if they are in their hides. just dont bother them too many times during the day. once your snake is settled you might notice a lot more activity during the day
I was just wondering if you know what the smallest corn snake breed is? As I want to buy one but i dont want it to be to big.(by this I mean length in inches)
There are no corn snake “breeds”. Corn snakes are one species. There are many different morphs but they all reach the same length. They generally get 4-5 feet.
I was wondering where you got your corn snake?? Or anyone who is seeing this comment if you have a corn snake where you got him/her or just where you would suggest getting them?
I would suggest looking around in your area for reptile breeders. You can find some really beautiful corn snakes thru people that specialize in solely breeding snakes. Alternatively you could go to a reptile expo/ show depending on if they are still happening in your area. You could also look on places like craigslist, possibly even a reptile rescue center & adopt a corn snake. In my opinion you should only go to a pet store to buy a snake as a last resort. Personally I purchased 2 of my corn snakes from a reptile exotics pet store (basically a reptile breeder), and my other corn snake was adopted from Kijiji (Canada’s version of craigslist)
Baby corn snakes usually start off with pinky mice, but as they grow you will be increasing the food size. After a couple of months your baby snake will be able to eat fuzzy mice, then small mice, and so on. An adult corn snake can eat large mice (or even larger depending on your snakes size).
@@ThatsSoReptii thanks! Would I be able to pick up some frozen mice and stuff from any old pet store And do you recommend some sort of lamp for his enclosure?
@@pipeqez911 depends on the pet store, but usually most stores that sell reptiles also sell frozen feeder mice. alternatively you can also order them online depending on where you live. As for a heat lamp i recommend you use an under the tank heat pad as you will never have to change light bulbs, but its up to your preference. if you use a heat lamp try to use a ceramic heat emitter so that your snake wont be disturbed from light during the night time
My corn snakes almost 2 years old, the most chill and relaxed snake I've ever had since the day bought him. Just remember corn snakes are still wild animals, each have their own personality.

Can you keep them in containers like that until you get a proper terrarium? Do you have a heat source in there?
Yes, i use under tank heaters. Because all 3 are placed next to each other im using a 6 foot repti heat tape.
You can actually keep them in bin enclosures their entire life! Bins come in many different sizes. Some are huge! They are also very affordable.
How often should I be feeding my baby corn snake he is a baby ultra Mel morph and does it really hurt when they bite ?
Hey im really interested in getting a corn snake and was wondering id coconut fibre can be used as substrate?
It can. It’s not very natural, though. I personally use a mix of Reptisoil and cypress mulch/forest floor, with leaf litter on top.
I have one that got adbaned but he’s so nice and chill
I have a corn snake but it really really doesn’t want me to hold it. I would really love to it’s beautiful, but it doesn’t want me to hold it. Please help!!
Example: I get 1 year old corn snake
I keep the same container which will be good for an adult
Will that be good? Or do I need a smaller one and then get a bigger one once it ages?
In that case you wouldnt have to change or downsize. Keep the same container for an adult :)

Thanks
Good luck
@@ThatsSoReptii thank you for your encouragement and sharing your very helpful knowledge and experience.
Best of luck to you
Morphmarket ! If you’re in the USA.
Omg my brothers name is Cruz and my name is tessa which is super close to tesla.
Do you have any tips on how to convince your parents to get you a corn snake? (My mom doesn't like snakes)
I have the same issue Lmaoo. I Just keep bringing it up and showing her cool ones hopefully one day they will let us actually get one 😂😂
as someone else said, its not easy to convince someone who doesnt like snakes but it is possible.
make sure you are well educated on their care (which by the looks of it, you are doing research which is good). this way your parents will see that you actually care and want a corn snake.
most parents are afraid their child will end up neglecting their pets and leaving it on their parents to take care of them. make sure your mom knows that you actually really do want this snake.
and yeah pretty much like julien said show her cool pictures of different morphs, maybe show her your favorite kind of corn snake, etc
Good Luck!
@@Heavydolphin SAME, every day I ask andy mom says no,
@@ThatsSoReptii Thanks!
Do you cut up the mice for the smaller corn snakes? For feeding purposes obviously
Hopefully I'll get one by Christmas
I bought a corn snake for 45$ and I already have a cage and tiny animals for the snek
Do you have any brands of substrate that you recommend?
Zoo med shredded snake aspen is my top choice although it is a little pricey. You can buy bulk bags of small animal aspen (made for hamsters, rabbits, etc) and save money that way. Just make sure to never use pine or cedar wood shavings as they have harmful and toxic aromas/ smells that can harm your snakes respiratory system.
Getting corn snake in 6 days she is orange and yellow I pet here she really nice
If I get a corn snake that’s a adult should I still wait 2-3 days (I will just because I don’t want to cause stress)
Can you leave them unattended to go on vacation?
Great question! They are VERY low maintenance and have no problem going 1-2 weeks without interaction, but you will however need someone to change& replenish the water bowl as it evaporates quickly (and they drink a lot of water!). Your snake will be fine going 2 weeks without food, and most 1 week trips are perfectly fine, as younger snakes only eat once per week.
Again, you can leave them unattended but you will need someone to fill up their water bowl :)
Ok so what should you do when you get your snake how long should you let it acclimate to roo temperature?
Ideally you should have some sort of heating in your enclosure. A ceramic heater or a heat mat with a thermostat.
Snakes are cold-blooded and need external heat sources to provide the energy for digesting food.
HOW DO I GET ANY SNAKE TO LIKE ME ? 😊
How often should you change the substrate for a corn snake?
Spot clean the substrate weekly to keep the bedding fresh for longer.
Completely change the substrate every 1-2 months (ensure you are spot cleaning)
I really really really want a corn snake!!!
Cara, vc é brasileiro? sinto um trenzinho na voz que parece brasileiro. Daora o vídeo! parabéns!
Am aloud to get them in Australia
Your snakes are so cute
I’m a getting a caramel corn snake is a 20 gallon tank enough?
Depends on how big they'll get but a 40 gallon Is preferred cause they are very active
are they for beginrs
yes :). just do proper research
Is it pretty normal for a baby corn snake to crawl up the side of the tank all of the time?
If your snake is eating, drinking & pooping all is good! Your snake is probably comfortable with you and doesnt feel the need to hide
should i get a baby or adult corn snake and how often do you need to clean their urine and poop?
It depends on your preference. Would you like to raise & watch your baby snake grow into an adult, or would you like to skip all of that & maybe adopt an adult corn snake? Its really up to preference.
You should be spot cleaning urine/poop weekly. If you see any soiled bedding just remove it and discard.
You should clean the entire enclosure every 5-6 weeks (in combination with weekly spot cleanings
can i buy an adult size tank for a baby snake to not have to buy more than 1 tank or is that bad?
Yes you can, no problem.
Just make sure you have a lot of hiding spots & foliage/ fake plants so your baby snake can feel safe & secure!
question i get back home around afternoon will they be awake?
it depends, each snake is different but you can always take them out during the day even if they are in their hides. just dont bother them too many times during the day.
once your snake is settled you might notice a lot more activity during the day
I was just wondering if you know what the smallest corn snake breed is? As I want to buy one but i dont want it to be to big.(by this I mean length in inches)
There are no corn snake “breeds”. Corn snakes are one species. There are many different morphs but they all reach the same length. They generally get 4-5 feet.
@@nightinggale6470 my bad thats what I mean thanks for the info
How do you feel about feeding a corn snake repti links?
I dont think a corn snake would even eat reptilinks they really need that rodent scent to strike & eat
@@ThatsSoReptii Okay thanks for the input 😃.
im not english and im trying to understand what are you saying mut thanks! im maybe getting a corn snake (if it’s okay to my mom) and im so exited!!
Personally I purchased 2 of my corn snakes from a reptile exotics pet store (basically a reptile breeder), and my other corn snake was adopted from Kijiji (Canada’s version of craigslist)
waht should i feed an adult and a baby snake?
should i just feed baby pinkys
and adult fuzzies?
Baby corn snakes usually start off with pinky mice, but as they grow you will be increasing the food size. After a couple of months your baby snake will be able to eat fuzzy mice, then small mice, and so on. An adult corn snake can eat large mice (or even larger depending on your snakes size).
@@ThatsSoReptii thanks!
Would I be able to pick up some frozen mice and stuff from any old pet store
And do you recommend some sort of lamp for his enclosure?
@@pipeqez911 depends on the pet store, but usually most stores that sell reptiles also sell frozen feeder mice. alternatively you can also order them online depending on where you live.
As for a heat lamp i recommend you use an under the tank heat pad as you will never have to change light bulbs, but its up to your preference. if you use a heat lamp try to use a ceramic heat emitter so that your snake wont be disturbed from light during the night time
@@ThatsSoReptii thanks for all the info!
That’s all I need to know
