This song is not about Courtney Love, that's ridiculous (sorry). Pretty sure it's not about one person in particular, but maybe identifying an unfortunate female rivalry construct. Read more, kids. Just saying.
I love Courtney Love for her own thing, but the description here...well read...it doesn't fit. It can mean anyone who has twisted the meaning of anything Kathleen has ever said, which is...constant. Bikini Kill had to do a media blackout it was so bad. Maybe it's the author of the riot grrrl text who got many accolades. I can't remember the name, the 'true story of riot grrrl' but it chafed me at the time to the point I sold it. There is something in that book where the author is claiming something that is owned by no one...my memory will jostle it loose eventually. Aging riot grrrl says, it was called Girls to the Front.
Their most recent one, 'Hit reset', was released in 2016 so I think it's a bit early for a new album just yet. But I quess they're continuously writing new songs;
It’s saying that. The picture perfect world female character archetype displayed in popular culture isn’t attainable. And also that doesn’t have to mean that we can’t enjoy those things or parts of it.
I want to know who this song is about. If this was 1994 it would be plainly obvious but in 2013 not so much. (Wow that was almost 20 years ago...crazy)
Yes folks this is obviously about Courtney Love..big mouth..lying..beauty "pageantry"...falling apart in the public eye!! Who else? She punched Kathleen..she's still upset about it. I just think it took a long time for Kathleen to feel comfortable enough to finally write the song. Bikini Kill and Le Tigre were not the right forum, but The Julie Ruin in 2013 finally is! Also,Courtney bashing is pretty high right now with The Punk Singer out and Mary Lou Lord finally having the guts to talk about how much of a jerk C.Love was in the 90s. AND the fact that everything Courtney is doing sucks right now. She has really lost the magic.
How do you feel about the THEORY that Courtney Love punched Kathleen Hannah cause she's a TERF? Low key think it could be true. Also totally agree this about courtney
It's not about Courtney. Kathleen would rather be an ally with other women (even though she doesn't agree on everything with them), than to diss them in a song. That's so fucking lame. The song is actually about a useless female rivalry construct (like the one you're talking about).

@LeighPhillips78 Interesting! I have a hard time believing these lyrics were written for anything or anyone totally specifically. BUT, I do feel the art school angst in this, personally. Like, seeing people who you came up with as contemporaries, in your sphere or whatever. Then how they garner all this attention in ways you see right through as being totally inauthentic. BUT, feeling like if you were to question or honestly critique then you'd be questioned yourself as perpetuating this girl on girl attack trope we're all so familiar with. It would be dumbed down, hyperfocused on, then it's all to shit, our credibility is stripped away, we're not talking about anything anymore, then HAHAHA ARMAGEDDON for our movement.
Love The Julie Ruin so much. I have been playing in an art school band the last few months and this was the first song we played together. It is such a great song and we have had a lot of fun covering it! It doesn't come close to the original, but here is a video of us playing it at a Girls Rock School event in Edinburgh a few weeks ago anyway: ua-cam.com/video/ym4HUtc8lzA/v-deo.html
This song has so many amazing elements: 60s guitar, 80s synth, modern pop, and Kathleen Hanna's classic voice. Freaking awesome!
A great voice, though slightly reminiscent of Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex
one of the coolest ppl of my generation...kathleen hanna
this is my fav song on the album.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. Thanks, storyallegory. :-)

Kathleen Hanna can do no wrong.
Well shew did release the song I’m With Her, so there’s that.
Nor right.
Why don't you guys play this song live?? It's my favorite on the album.
This song just blew my mind!
Very X-Ray Spex, circa 1978. She even sounds like Poly Styrene, which is a compliment, of course.

Their most recent one, 'Hit reset', was released in 2016 so I think it's a bit early for a new album just yet. But I quess they're continuously writing new songs;

Love this!!!!!!
sounds like a courtney love dis song to me and a pretty good one. even though i
It's about a useless female rivalry construct.
courtney punched kathleen in the face. i doubt it is about her, or it would be much more negative
Amazeballs song and videoooo! :D

I am deeply offended that you censored the fuck word in text
La voz es igual a Bikini Kill... ta bakn la banda!
¿¿¿Será porque es el nuevo grupo the Kathleen Hanna… la cantante de BK???

!!!!!
C.L. ?
i was thinking it could be courtney love bc it seems like this person is also in the public eye.
It's not about Courtney. It's about a useless female rivalry construct.
This could only be about:
1 - Courtney Love
2 - Third Wave Feminism
It's about nobody in particular, it's about a useless female rivalry construct.
Wait I thought it was about saying fu to women who were anti feminists

Natalie ^^^^ has a huge HUGE nose.
lmao u wish
Could very well be about Trump.. if he was a girl.. ツ
:'D
Does this song have anything to do with Lana Del Rey?
Pretty sure it's about Courtney Love
It's not about *a person*. It's about a useless female rivalry construct. (i.e. Kathleen vs. Lana, Kathleen vs. Courtney, woman vs woman).
