The smartest thing we did was NOT to listen to the realtor when they told us how much of our income should be spent on a mortgage (25-30%) We bought a smaller house and have lived in it for over 25 years. It is one story, so a perfect place to retire! We also buy older cars and refurbished phones, so I'm so happy to hear you recommend these!
I remember when I first thought of this concept: I was 16 and got a crappy summer job that paid 30€/ day picking up fruit (I lived in the countryside). I didn't actually need the money to eat or for housing, I just picked up a job so I could buy some new clothes without asking my parents. I wanted to buy a pair of sneakers that cost 120€. I realized that to buy those sneakers I would have to pick up fruit for 4 days in the summer heat and quickly gave up on that ideia. I didn't actually learn any useful skill from that job since it was mostly manual labor, but I learned the value of my time.
So you weren't that into the sneakers funny when someone else is paying you will take things that have no meaning when it comes to working hard you become pickier and thoughtful of taking things in.
We become conscious of our spending habit when we come to realize how long will it take us to afford something. (Sometimes, it would take a month of our time doing hard labor just to buy a single branded thing, and would that even worth it for a month of hustles?) So we really become better by realizing the time we need to put up into something every time.
This is why I don't argue with people online, it's a waste of time and energy and they won't change their minds anyways. And my car is from 2012 and it's still pretty good. Next step is to research on investment!
I must say you're living the best way a man should live and keep it up! If you're starting your investing career, you may want to go over my channel as you may see a lot things to consider first before investing. I wish you all the best and see you around :)

So true with working a horrible low paid job. The cost of transportation eating needing to wear clothes on top of that the things you need to destress could come out to making negative. cheaper sometime not to take the bad job
I agree with this. That's why working smart wins over working hard as always. It's important to create another source of income generating streams, or those that earns you passive income without actually doing a hard labor.
We rarely go out to eat. My husband's father died, so the whole family went out to his favorite restaurant. We talked about positive memories of him. My husband packed lunch to work there for several days. He didn't have to buy lunch. I raided his fridge and found food. The sad thing is we found how much stuff that was hoarded. It made me thankful that I'm minimalising our stuff and organizing everything. We have hauled tons of stuff from his home. I like storage stuff so I took some baskets which I'm using. I'm up for several job offers. I'll probably take the job that is closest to home.
I was deep in your conversation and then the accent came out- loved it! Don’t be ashamed of where you’re from or how you pronunciate. It was funny and awesome at the same time.
That's crazy you talked about this subject. I've been thinking a lot about this, and each time I sweep the credit card, I try to see time of my life being traded. Also, I had two people recommending me a movie where time was the currency. After watching your video, I'm sure it's a sign of the universe for me to see this movie 😂
Damn! This is deep. The older we are, it seems to me time passed sooo faassttt... You're right. I should see things from how much my time spent. Thanks for the insights!
Yes. By having a lot of unnecessary things to buy, we have to dedicate our time in order for us to buy the things we desire without us realizing that we are losing our time and our day over it.
When you made the comment "they don't make things like they used too", I instantly thought of the book I just finished reading 2 days ago by James Wallman called "Stuffocation". It talks about the Mad Men of consumerism way back in the 20ies and 30ies redefining people's spending habits. How they made things to break and be replaced to fuel a shopping based economy. It was a really interesting read.
6:02 I walk 1 hour from my workplace every evening out of choice (I could get there by walking in 20 minutes) as an investment to my body and mind to stay more healthy. No money can compensate the lack of exercise
I agree. This video widens our perspective of not having to spend on things we really don't need in order for us not to lose a time of our life doing the hard labor.

I went from barely making minimum wage to making about $40 an hour at the same job with same responsibilities. I felt the difference the first week the pay went up. Instead of spending it, I invested it. My younger co-workers expect $40 an hour and have no experience on living less. Prices have gone up, so I can understand them. I like the Boston accent 🤣🤣🤣… I love this concept, currently having a hard time with meal prep and cooking . So my money is going to restaurants 😩 … but learning to build a list and plan the meals ahead has been the biggest challenge. Hopefully I can switch my mindset and it will help.
I heard of people prepping meals for the whole week and freezing. That is very common with work your stress tried from a long day leaving no time to cook pushing to takeout stopping at restaurant. On day off pre make meals for the week so all you need is to heat it up. There is also now a ton of meal prep companies that send easy meals and recipe
Looking at different parts of life as time instead of the paper made me realize how much I can still adjust to improve the quality of my life. I thank you for that.
I do not agree with you. Work is so much more than money. You make it sound so negative. I do what I love to do, and they give me money too. And I’m not a big spender so I’m feeling free. It would drive me crazy if I was thinking like you do. Wishing you all the best, and I like your other videos.
I think the video speaks of converting the value of things or money to the time we have to divulge ourselves of hard labor over it. Sometimes, it's unwise to spend on something that we need to work for one whole month to equate the value of that thing.
I disagree with your flawed perspective. For example, Yes it is worth having that good cup cup of coffee that’s worth 10 minute of your time because that coffee is going to give you energy for the many hours to come to be more productive.

Sometimes, it's unwise to spend on something that we need to work for one whole month to equate the value of that thing.
and what if you have to pay $20k to leave your country and be trafficked to another country where you work 5 years to make it back?
What about if you stay in your country 🤣

I disagree with your flawed perspective. For example, Yes it is worth having that good cup cup of coffee that’s worth 10 minute of your time because that coffee is going to give you energy for the many hours to come to be more productive.
