It’s so frustrating to me not being able to get the audio quality i can get in studio in a live setting. I care about the minute differences. But SR40 comes close. thank you so much!
As a photographer and home-recorder enthusiast, it made sense in a snappy time, @@AntonBrowne !! The few people in my life that opened up my spirit that quick were excellent teachers and human beings, so I'm glad to count you in. :-)
Thanks, excellent comparison. SV33 clearly stands out with rich and realistic mid detail compared to the other two. That's a huge advantage when it comes to post-processing.
Another one of your viewers mentioned your approach to critiques as being the Rolls Royce of the genre. I have to second that. Thank you! I have had and destroyed three KMS 105s (I need the pretty) by dropping them exactly once in each case. I am hoping the new SR314 that I am ordering today will be tougher.
You remind me of someone who would live in a 17th century stately home in the British countryside, wear tweed suites with leather patches on the elbows and use a wooden walking cane with a solid silver handle and drive a vintage 60's E-Type Jaguar convertible in British racing green
Hi I purchased SR40V directly from a reputable supplier and after only few uses it stopped working and the supplier said the SR40V is discontinued and they offered to replace it with SR314B with refund of the difference in the price what do you advise ?
Thanks for the reply The supplier said they covwr the warranty but the SR40V is discontinued and they don't make it any more hence they offered SR314B I also checked on earthwork website they don't have sr40v listed
@@AntonBrowne Thanks for your reply I contacted earthwork and this is their reply Cathy Casali (Earthworks Audio) Feb 13, 2023, 5:13 PM EST Hello Arass - we actually believe that the SR314 is a better microphone but we undersatn if you find the look of it polorizing. (The black version looks great too.) We are here to make this right for you. What would you like us to do. The SR40V has been discontinued due to supply chain issues. We can not replace.
@@AA-SG Just purchased the SR40v myself and was perplexed it was nowhere to be seen on the website. Your comment here is the only place I could find scouring the web regarding it being discontinued. Also was surprised to learn the very substantial warranty had been changed as of Feb 1 2023 to a modest 2 years. The other concerning issue is how it was shipped, in a flimsy mic pouch, in lightweight box and mailing envelope. At this price point you would think at least molded foam in substantial box like most mics half its price.
Ok so after considering just returning the SR40v due to being discontinued and concerns about repair if/when needed, I realized I just had to try the mic out at gig yesterday. All I can say is wow! wasn't expecting a monumental difference from the Heil PR37 I've been using, seeing as the Heil is touted as having "condenser like" qualities. But after some initial adjustment and dialing in a minor bump in the upper mid I was floored by how much more detail and nuance I was hearing in the monitors (which usually are harder to get sounding good compared to mains). And the feedback from some musicians in the audience was very, very positive., noting the new found clarity. And I was getting the hang of working the distance to the mic, which is normally challenging for me since I play guitar at the same time. But the sweet spot was pretty wide and I could get some really cool low end umph when I moved in closer, not muddy at all like the Heil is when close, but then it was crystal clear when I pulled back and hit it hard with some air and volume. Id be hard pressed to give this up even with noted support/warranty issues. Unless the SR314 can give me at least the same performance or better, then I would consider trading up to that.
I think they call it 'diminishing returns', meaning that the nearer you get to the best possible, the mor exponentially the price increases. To get that extra 1% of performance, requires 10 times more effort, and that's reflected in the price!
Have you had elocution lessons or have you always spoken so crisp and clearly? Maybe it is a musical thing but I'm amazed how eloquently the intonation and precision rolls off your tongue. Great review - thanks a lot.
Why, thank you but nothing to do with me really. I guess my mentors and influencers (most of whom are dead) probably rubbed off on me, but even that is not my doing, so...

I love the analogy with lenses !!
You opened my way of thinking about mics !
Thanks for that, and everything.
Human beings are very visual and I find it's helped me to 'see' what's going on.

Well said! I think that pins it down, it's something about the mids.

Thanks for your comment. I am disappointed that the 105 seems so fragile. I am yet to drop my SR314! Let us know what you think of it.
You sound excellent on all of them! :)
Thank you! AB
This channel has excellent content
so good to put on in this background and enjoy the songs haha
Cheers.
Majestic stuff. Bravo!
Many thanks!

Meanwhile, you sound great on anything. Thanks for the music.

It’s stunning how close the SR40V gets to the SV33 given the price difference.

@@AntonBrowne Precisely sir. For me, I'll take the SR40V and use it on instruments as well, the balance is superb.
has the icon pro's 16 db self noise been an issue for u good sir?
Well, I haven't noticed it, but I will listen for it now you've mentioned it. I guess the short answer for the moment is no!

Can you EQ the Icon Pro to sound like the SV33?

Hey man, what condenser mic do u recommend around 200 ?
I don't know, I'm afraid, but the Rode S1 is probably worth looking at.
Man, I don‘t pretty much care what you‘re doing or which mike you compare (of course I do) as long as you‘re singing with that voice.
Cheers.
