Ryan, admittedly not a 3800 guy, hit most of the FAQ's here with a short & sweet explanation. Valuable to share when people ask the usual "Which way should I go with my car?"... Summed up in a couple sentences at 4:30
Old turbos may have had turbo-lag but, I have a 2018 regal sportback with a borg-warner twin-scroll turbo on it and i don't notice any turbo-lag. And every vehicle I've had before was naturally aspirated. It feels/drives like a naturally aspirated car.
I get the feeling ZZP is phasing out the 3800. When their stock of parts run out they do not restock. You can't get the Lucas 42.5 injectors anymore so I had to go to Intense racing to get them. They stopped their porting service long time ago. You cant get a ported throttle body or SC anymore as an example. I was lucky enough to get their full header package before they jacked up the price to over $1,000 even with a military discount, and their aftermarket heads or ported heads are no more. You have to go to Intense Racing for these parts now
This should be in the 3800 Playlist

@@gonewronggarage4565 about that 😅
As someone that had a pretty full out M90 build, then went to turbo, just skip the blower build. Go turbo and save yourself the money and put it into a trans build haha.
I wish I could my state don't allow turbos and if they catch you with it they take your car

Positives- for a supercharger, no plumbing for the exhaust, change boost levels with pulley swap, less heat under the hood as opposed to a turbo, more engine compartment space. Drawbacks- takes HP to spin the blower. Turbo Positives - Does not put a load on the engine, better power potential. Negatives- gets REALLY hot inside engine compartment, have to keep things away from the heat like oil return lines. Requires special exhaust headers or manifolds that take up space. Requires a blow-thru carb if using on a carbureted engine. Personally I prefer supercharger for it's simplicity. Also, I have a rule of thumb, SUPERCHARGER for a daily driver, turbo for a racer.
I wholly agree, plus it’s unique and not common to hear about a Supercharged V6
I’m looking for 2013 Cadillac ATS 2.0T Carb-Compliant Cold Intake
We unfortunately do not have any carb compliant products. Sorry about that.
Great vid. Will there be any sales for Black Friday?
Yes there will be!
@John Longo use yours u will be fine.
@John Longo it’s also a wider outlet I think.
@John Longo I got two GenV’s right now and I’d be willing to part with one. Can’t use em both at the same time. My Monte SS is at ZZperformance now. I’ll be going up there Friday to get it.
I feel like your logic topic lost steam in the end but overall great video. I do want to add this to it, if you are considering supercharging or turbocharging your 3.8L V6 engine look up the Buick Grand National.
Awesome video! I love a supercharger setup 😍
Basic, supercharger is belt driven which requires energy from your engine. SC is also less fuel efficient with forced air whereas turbo increases efficiency by using the vehicles exhaust gasses.
Ryan, you da man! What size turbo would you reccomend? Thanks.
What engine are you working with and what are you plans for the car? Road course, autox, drag racing, or just a street cruiser?
There’s no doubt the turbo is more efficient, but for whatever reason, the SC is much more consistent at the dragstrip.
Agreed
What about twin charged on a 3800 series
Y'all don't sell a supercharger for the 3800 anymore though; I went looking today.
Do you make parts for the Ford Thunderbird and 94-04 Mustang 3.8 V6
I wanted a supercharged monte but it qasnt offered for the year i wanted, but nice to know you guy have a kit to make one. And would alow me to keep my cold air intake.
What if I want to put the Z3 turbo kit and keep my supercharger on ? What route would I go ? I have zzp stage 2 kit , zzp headers, zzp radiator and suspension work 04 Chevy impala ss

im sure im going to get laughed out of the comments section for this one. but i have a buick lacrosse 2007 that has a 3800 series 3 engine in it. i think bone stock is supposed to be around 200hp. all these mods and set ups for the 3800 engines can i put them in my car to bring up the power? i dont really have a set number in mind for hp and im not looking to drag race the car, but i would like for the car to have a little more umph to it when i plant my foot down and i dont want to sacrfice daily drivability.
There are lots of parts that will fit your LaCrosse as the engine is identical to the Series III that came in the Grand Prix. There are a few downfalls however of your starting point. Obviously exhaust configurations once you get past the downpipe are changed on the LaCrosse. The next biggest hurdle is you cannot tune the PCM that was in your 2007, HPTuners does not support it. However you could do some basic mods like coils/wires, front power log, stainless crossover, 1.9 rockers, etc.
The Whipple enters the room...
I am shocked Ryan made this whole video without mentioning the “lovely” exhaust sound of a m90 car.
Please anyone know if this sc will fit on a 3.4 don’t want to build it super crazy just want to throw a little boost at it and make some extra power
I don't see any inventory of the L36 S/C kit on your site. When are you getting more of those?
They aren't!
I'm curious about water methanol setup with the M90 on the 3800 platform. There's not much info on it.
Message us at customerservice@zzperformance.com and we'd be happy to give you some details.
E85 for smaller pulleys without intercooler, ftw.
Thats a ton of info, thanks man.
To bad there isn't a kit that can run the turbo and the blower together. Something like the 03-04 cobra's have or the 05-10 Shelby GT500 platform has. Never the less I bet it is possible with some custom work.
@Unknown yeah the new owner set the record for a stock GTP cam wth a twin charge setup
I would have liked if he would have talked a little about a centrifugal SC set up compared to a top mounted blower set up.
Could definitely get a rotrex to fit in there and would be much more efficient than the m90
centrifugal are basically turbos that run the compressor off the engine so anything mentioned about a turbo applies to them other than you need to eat some HP to make it. Positive displacement are different in that they give peak boost quick, turbo's and centrifugal need rpm to get peak boost. All generalized statements because it depends on engine and power added picked.
can i get more on a procharged vehicle or is this a stupid question

Do these kits work on base model 3800 series 3 v6 on a Pontiac Grand Prix 06’?
if it is a 3800 yes. they call it a top swap. replace the N/A intake with supercharger parts.
@@andystech5223 thank you, gonna look into that
Is it difficult to add a supercharger to a NA 3800?
Im looking for the same answer!!
Expensive unless you can do it yourself, need supercharged heads, of course the blower, different crank pulley, some additional plumbing and wiring and a tune
I have a 2001 grand prix gtp special edition. How hard would it be to run both setups lol
You can "twin charge" and run a combo of the two, but it is very expensive and not very efficient.
@@ZZPerformanceChannel gotcha thanks. I'll just stick with the blower. The twin engine turbo charged grand prix was pretty cool. Too expensive for me at the moment but I want to get zzp downpipe and ECU soon I'll post when I buy
@@ZZPerformanceChannel I'm going to twin charge. I love the look of it
Question do you make parts for the GM carburated 3.8 V6 from 1976 - 1985
We do not, unfortunately. Our parts are designed for the 1997-03 and 04+ GM 3.8
@@ZZPerformanceChannel In the near future would you be interested In developing parts for Ford 3.8 models cars
Smart guy knows the good stuff .I think I need a super charger on my 03 impala
Its not that simple
Kind of a random and vague question but have to ask as I JUST got into cars and mods. What is more reliable for long term use? I would imagine supercharger but I am speaking with limited experience. Thoughts?
Honestly, both can be equally reliable long term with regular maintenance. Obviously, like Ryan says in the video, the turbo will require more parts compared to the Supercharger, so it depends on how much time you want to spend on maintenance.
How much power can a gen 5 s.c blower make?
I know this is an old video but i'm curious if its possible to do a turbo on my 93 regal with the 3800 series 1 na.... do you know what all would need to be done on the ecu side to make it work?
We unfortunately do not work with the Series 1 engines what-so-ever. As far as we're aware none of the larger aftermarket tuning companies support those older ECU's.
are the 3800 parts coming back in stock. intercooler, ported superchager ect? feels like they been out of stock forever
Unfortunately, it is difficult to give solid ETA for products right now due to everything going on. Portions of the kits are on hold due to small component companies not being able to supply us, or powder coating not being open. We are hoping more parts will only be a few weeks out. Also, on the left-hand side of the webpage, there is a red/green tab that says ‘in stock reminder’. If you click that we will automatically email you the very moment that they are in stock.
can also twin charge your car. tho it is not common as it adds allot of cost to the build.
I have a 1996 Buick regal custom and I can’t find anything for ecu tuning can anyone help me out here bc I wanna supercharge it it’s a 3800
In general, a Supercharger has no turbo-lag... Instant reaction!. Turbo often has a turbo-lag.
While turbo-lag is a thing, it's not as big of an issue as it used to be. Check out our video all about it! ua-cam.com/video/ekoppP_iPcQ/v-deo.html
Has anyone turbo charged while leaving the A2W intercooler plate on?
Why not both?
Do u guys have a shop in Atlanta or Miami?
We are based in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Does this apply to my 07 saturn ion redline sc to in terms of setups.
Generally the same rules apply when it comes to using a Supercharger or turbo regardless of platform. We do have a similar video for LSJ Ecotec engines that will probably be more helpful for your Ion: ua-cam.com/video/SuiTZyp1zlo/v-deo.html
@@ZZPerformanceChannel thank you God bless guys
Forget the M90...what about a Kenny Bell SC..I hear E85...but I never hear anything about the dreaded N word.. NITROUS...is NITROUS the Nail in the Coffin for a 3800???
Screw all that ! Throw nitrous at it. I've had nitrous on all my cars including my current car 06 corvette. Never had any problems. Do your research, nitrous is safe and adds a ton of power to your car, plus it's way cheaper. Just my opinion. If you have the money tubos are great.
Looking to make 400hp (300 engine and a 100 shot). Would I need to build the engine pistons rods etc or could I just throw 100 shot at it and not worry?
kits are "sold out" forever
If you're a firebird owner, you can pretty much forget about going with a blower.
The ones that do know how to modify it to fit on a Firebird aren't showing anyone how they did it!
Not a single solitary video on UA-cam, to show you how to modify an M90 to fit on a Firebird!
Why no F body love?
For real. Could make a killing selling a turbo kit for 3.8 f bodies. I would buy one in a heartbeat. Already have their GT1 cam in my bird rn
