I think the main issue is the writing and not hiring people who care about the ip than the casting
You could do an A-list casting if you'd just actually tried to replicate the original characters. Lilith and to the lesser extend Tannis are both sex symbols and that is obviously politically incorrect in 2024. That being said Ronald is the most baffling. Are we now at the point that even a PoC male can't be buff and tall because he is a man. Dunno. What a load of garbage anyways.

I’m a huge borderlands fan and it pains me they picked Eli Roth. Tim Miller would have been a great choice I know he did the re shoots but I think he would have done the film justice.

Maybe I’m the minority here but I’ve never cared about what actors or actresses are starring in movies. I don’t think that makes or breaks anything. You can have an amazing performer have a poor part to play with horrible lines and that doesn’t make that movie good just because it’s a well known performer.

Facts. D&D Honor Among Thieves was an unexpected surprise that was highly enjoyable from start to finish. Hollywood really needs to take notes from films like that and see how letting the right people work on a potentially great movie can yield the best results as opposed to hiring directors who have a poor track record of directing financially successful yet terrible movies. Seriously, what's up with that sometimes?

Maaaan this is gutting. I love Borderlands. But that claptrapap bucket is insane, I want one but we don't get awesome popcorn buckets here, least not in my city and I'm not flying to another country for it. Maybe they should have taken a Fallout approach and given it a series to flesh it out. I was gunna see this guess I'll just wait for digital.
Yeah, I think a series would have been a better approach as well, or maybe make it a little longer to flesh out the characters. But then again Guardians of the Galaxy probably set my expectations far too high on that front because I absolutely love the development of the characters there.
As soon as they announced extensive reshoots with a completely different director Justice League 2017 style I knew it was over

Okay, this is a kind of mean but genuine question: How is Kevin Hart, one of the biggest movie stars, always an early indicator that a movie isn't going to be amazing. Surely he and Dwayne Johnson have the power and security to turn down bad scripts, but they both have said yes to some of the highest profile duds in history. Is it because their movies are just vehicles to promote their brands?

Mortal Kombat 1 was a solid movie. The remake was ok.

I'm going to get A LOT of hate for this, but I liked it for what it was. Sure .. it could have been better. If James Gunn or basically anyone but Eli Roth directed (and wrote) it, it would have been way better. But it wasn't the dumpster fire I was expecting given all the hate it's received. Borderlands is one of my favorite game franchises. I was surprised by Kevin Hart being cast as Roland too. I didn't see it. But he actually did a good job. Roland is a big, tough soldier but he's also kinda funny. "Aw..it's just a flesh wound." You do have to know Borderlands to get a lot of what's going on in the movie. Maybe that's a weakness. Badonkadong. The "cheap" costumes make sense if you know the game. No back story? This kinda was back story for the game. It isn't a great movie, but I love the Borderlands games and I liked the movie. It was like watching a video game movie. And now I want to go back and play Borderlands again.

I was recently rewatching all the Guardians of the Galaxy movies the day before I saw Borderlands, and one thing that really struck me about the former was that you really sympathise with the characters. In Guardians, they did an amazing job at having you care about these misfits with very tragic pasts who come together as a family. I was expecting that sort of thing with Borderlands but it falls short on that regard. I just wish we learned more about the backstories of the characters and how really sad souls they are, but they couldn’t do that with how short it was.

Maybe. She seems like she has the opposite of whatever the popular opinion is. Movies are art as in people can like it or dislike it, but it seems off. I wouldn't be surprised though if it's more or less just for the hate watchers out in the world.
She's big on female leads. So no surprise she gave this a positive rating.

Half the people I've talked with who have an opinion on the movie haven't even seen it, so I'd say their opinions were definitely motivated by some agenda. I think what happened behind the scenes was that the director spent most of the money on the actors, Told the actors to wear their cosplay items from home, And the director including the executives and producers took the rest of the money for them selves

Yeah idk much about Borderlands, but I can recommend the first Telltale Borderlands game because it was the only game I played in the franchise. (The game is basically like an interactive movie)

As a borderlands fan who has played every game multiple times I think it was at least a watchable movie but they didn't write the characters right and they butchered the writing and they choose the wrong actors to play the wrong characters I'm not mad at this movie just very disappointed
I find it sad that there’ll be people who are even more put-off about actually trying the games because of this movie.
I also find it funny that the Borderlands the tell tale series looks like it’s a far better movie than this could ever be.

Let’s be honest this movie was dead on arrival when they hired Avi Arad as producer, Eli Roth as director, making it PG13 and choosing the wrong actors for the role.

Always wanted a borderlands movie, but as soon as I saw the cast I was super disappointed. Wish I could see Craig Masons’s script, I could easily see how he would be able to transform the games to live action. Must say tho, claptrap design is beautiful I love it to bits, but then again claptrap is always a dub.

For me when it comes to Kevin heart he's a lot funnier when he does stand up. Maybe the reason why he's known as the screaming short guy is because that's all he's given to work with, sometimes it really does depend on the quality of a script.
