    Thank you so much for your informative videos about Slimming World and people's experiences with it. I was suggested to join the 12 free weeks of SW by my doctor, which I find extremely weird considering I asked to see a dietician instead... when I found out that no one is a professional in SW I decided it was not trustworthy. Like, am I really supposed to take nutrition advice from somebody who hasn't studied it? Please. Thanks to my immediate skepticism, I never took SW seriously, I'm not even counting my 'syns' because I find it ridiculous (my consultant didn't say anything about that, do they even check our food diaries?) and yet I have lost a little bit of weight anyway. Just by taking it all with a grain of salt and watching out for junk food. All I see around me when I go to the meetings are women who celebrate weight loss, and feel really bad about themselves when they gain it instead. It's so sad how affected they feel and how competitive it gets at times, with the morally questionable rewards system. I won slimmer of the week twice in a row, and I could sense the tension... I didn't get any sense of victory from it, weight loss isn't supposed to be a success. Building healthier habits is success. Finding love for oneself is success. Listening to bodily needs is success. Not a number on a scale that fluctuates all the time! Fortunately, I am close to the conclusion of my free weeks and I absolutely won't be joining it. SW is cultish, doesn't work, is not backed by professionals, and is clearly meant to make people come back to it. I deserve to eat what I love and to love myself enough to make better choices! I hope the same for Emma!

    I totally get where Emma is coming from, being an ex SW group member myself. Some of the things I've seen and heard other members do was shocking. Things like taking laxatives the night before weigh in, then completely having a massive binge after their weigh-in. And some SW consultants were overweight themselves!! Poorly trained consultants, with no nutrition background, telling people they can eat as much pasta, rice, and potatoes as they want, because thats what "SW says!"

      I gave SW up for this exact reason, The constant yo-yo effect & the way it plays with your mind, I was absolutely sick of the people around me with there bull, I asked myself would I usually spend time with people like this & the answer was NO, Not to mention the happy clappy 👏 It does you in eventually

    I have been slimming world for about 1.5 years and have lost 3 stone . Overall happy with diet and I think going group and chatting to people in similar situations helps. Plus I like our consultant she is quite down to earth . Plus she also talks about small wins and reminds us that the scale doesn't always show the actual truth. There is a lot of food I like on the diet so I don't find it restrictive I also had to do alot of work outside with my mindset , coping mechanisms and figuring out what works and making my own tweaks to the plan . I have tried calorie counting befoe and couldn't get it to work .
    I really think that different diets and plans work for each person . Plus addressing any underlying cause . Also workings on any stress and emotional health has a big impact. I think people forget about weight can also fluctuate especially for thoose who menstruate. So having this knowledge can help
    I really hope emma gets the results she wants

    63 and started SW two weeks ago. Stuck to "plan" maintained first week.
    Second week, upped my water intake, and my excercise. Walked 12,000-13,000 a day. 2nd week. No loss. Just despair😢

    I have tried Slimming World twice. Once about 15 years ago and once more recently. To me it makes no sense. The rules surrounding syns are odd and the focus on not eating any fat ( even advocados) is weird too. It's too carb driven and the sweeteners, Quark, ( 🤮) etc, weird recipes are just yuck. Everyone I know who has done it has gained it all back and more within a few months. Only think works for me is intermittant fasting and low carb, low sugar, ( no sweeteners tho) higher fat and protein.That's it.

    Sorry to comment - as listening & watching.
    I don't think there is a problem with the diet - I think it is Emma's relationship with food.
    If anyone thinks that following a diet means you lose weight, which is good - once you've hit your target weight, it is not a time to start eating rubbish again.
    Whatever diet surely - if you follow advice & stick to it, results will happen.
    I'm not trying to be the nasty man defending Slimming World, I've worked in offices for years alongside women on permanent diets & some switch & switch & switch again looking for the miracle weight off.
    My weight has increased since I went from being a bit of a really good walker to being in a wheelchair.
    My GP noticed & after a few appointment it was suggested I talk with a counsellor & amongst other things - I never realised I have a strange relationship with food.
    It's always there, difficult sometimes - but I know my triggers & am aware when things are changing in my habits, so try hard to make adjustments.
    I keep a food & mood diary - stupid I thought - but it makes sense.
    Not losing weight on a diet means one thing.
    Not here to point at anyone or blame.
    I hope you advised Emma to look at things from the other side, taking on her inner voice & using it so she can work things to her benefit.
    I grew up with a mother who was on a diet for 50 years.
    When it was announced she was on a diet, the amount of 'diet' food was for her alone - I was a young lad who wanted to know what Edam cheese tasted like & Ryvitas & Outline margarine (yuk!).
    Emergen crisp rolls, PLJ, Nimble bread - if anyone can remember the food I am on about they'll know what decade I am on about.
    In a nutshell, I think I am trying to say - usually the small print on a diet is 'speak to your doctor before you begin this diet' - I know it is difficult to get an appointment, but if you call early enough - blah blah - I'm not here to advise, just give things another thought.
    My heart goes out to Emma, like you indicated - talking to a health professional & be honest.
    My sister was doing great, I don't care whatever size she is - buy the bad days would be had a bacon sandwich, then had more roast potatoes, had a pizza - then the self discipline goes and 'the diet doesn't' work.
    There is more than eating when it comes to eating.
    Anyone who recognises Emma's worries should talk to someone.
    It has not been my intention to upset anyone.
    I just think people should think long and hard what they want to lose weight.
    Had a family meal at my sisters recently, it was excellent, it was tasty & it was filling.
    She told me that she's on some diet that has her cooking a variety of meals.
    Something Like 5% fat mince, air fryer potatoes & more.
    Her husband & whoever eats with them doesn't realise she's switched the people she cooks for to the diet food & no one knows only her.
    There is hope for everyone I am sure.
    There are ways to communicate with each other with the Internet & social media - she gets support from a Facebook group.
    They swap recipes & give each other pudding ideas, treats ideas - loads.
    Don't blame the diet I am saying - talk to a doctor a nurse, look for diet advice on Facebook or whatever.
    I mentioned earlier it was hard for me to go from a 20 mile hike every Sunday - to now I struggle to stand up, go to bed, go to the toilet.
    I hate myself and I get sad & angry.
    With patience and making a deal with myself, if I do a little bit each day, I'll get used to using my chair, being in it, hate being stared at.
    We are all different.
    We should want the best for ourselves.
    I've no group I pay for, i get advice from people with chairs on Facebook.
    I get support, I give support when I can.
    It's a slow job - but I'm not paying £20 a month & it's between me and my inner voice that gets me there.
    Best wishes anyone who reads this.
    Honest my words come from a good place.

      Thank you for your comment - it's much appreciated.
      The thing I didn't really push in the video is how the particular diet can contribute to the food relationship and mental health issues. The BBC has recently done coverage on SW and links to all sorts of disordered behaviours.
      In the end people put on weight for so many reasons and it requires a deep knowledge of quite a few things to sort it out for most people - not just a "consultant" with a weekend qualification.
      The mere fact that so many women are suffering with this same issue points to something being missing in SW and other similar diets.

    One thing I keep hearing is the word diet its a life change there are so many choices to eat protiens fruit veg if you have a problem with food of any kind stay away from this and ww I know what I'm talking about I've been yo yo for years have mental health problems but hey I'm going to give this a shot if it doesn't work I'm done with slimming clubs

    The emphasis on if I loose weight I will be happy. What if we were happy because we are made by God unique ❤weight is a reflection maybe of how we feel inside.

    Absolutely I was in this mindset, I thought I can't wait to loose weight get to target then I don't have to worry. But this isn't right mindset. 😢

    SW is big business....a money making business...it works for some but too much emphasis is put on food and results at the scales instead of WHY we overeat. More needs to be discussed about the reasons ehy we overeat in a bid to try to feed our emotions andvtry to make us "feel better" rather than feeding our PHYSICAL hunger .. and the difference between the two. By constantly talking about FOOD and lower calorific versions of food it actually FEEDS our ADDICTION to food and our food obsession. Its like telling an alcoholic he can have non alcoholic versions of the same namedcalcoholic drink. AlcoholISM NEVER becomes alcoholWASm....some food addicts simply cant allow themselves the taste of some types of food so its no good goingbto SWCto bevinstructed on how to make "low sugar, low fat" chocolate cake ....that just feeds the addiction that you attend a "slimming club " to "cure". Overeating is very much a head/mind condition and its our minds and thinking that need to be "treated" and addressed. SW classes fail to do this in my opinion. It certainly ISNT JUST ABOUT FOOD!

    Poor Emma. ....and the Slimming World consultant continues to stay in business and her bank balance continues to grow..... Same. Old same old....
