My two cents: I was told by one seller (Walmart) that spool cap didn't matter. After a lot of malfunction I went to an authorized dealer who taught me that the spool ought to unwind from under the spool, not over the top. When I needed a bigger machine I bought from that dealer. I use spool caps on my Baby Lock and I put the notch of older style spools to the rear of the direction the threat is aimed.
Well, I checked with the company and you are right: they do not recommend not using spool caps. I will use them from now on. Weird that salespeople at the dealer have said otherwise. Thanks for the video. I use those funky Aurifil spools for regular sewing. :)
Thank you I have the spool cap that came with my machine but all these other spools are different sizes and my cap wasn't working these did. perfect video do you have any idea what spool caps fit those other skinny spools of thread?
Had a question/comment about spool caps. I have misplaced my largest spool cap and have been using the small size. I find that if I put the spool on the spindle with the little thread groove at the back or right side the thread will feed properly w/o catching.
I never even knew spool caps were a thing. Imma have to get me some and that would solve my problem of using certain brands of thread on my machine. I had been putting them in a coffee cup on the side of my machine because I couldn't get them to work with the little stick that is on top of the machine because the hole was too big
When I was buying my machine, I was told by the dealer not to use spool caps when using the embroidery feature on my machine. I haven't had a problem yet.
even when I place the right spool cap on the singer quartet it seems to lock the thread up and it breaks. The spool won't spin? I came with two different posts that fit into the holder and I don't know if I'm suppose to change that or not? Dumb questions but my machine is so new I'm a little afraid of needing a repair man sooner than necessary. LOL Thanks Candi
I remember the four for a dollar Excel thread I still have some 5 for a dollar if u were really lucky I just got through using some in purple...youre taking me back Christopher lol

All the years I've been sewing I have always used the spool caps. I felt invincible when I saw your 'Tip Of The Day - Spool Caps'! Thank you!
This made a big difference for both sewing and embroidery and filling bobbins.

The slit in the old spools of thread are for storing the end of the thread

I thought they were just to hold the spool on! Thanks. Great informative video. Spools where i live are just very thin cardboard tubes.

I always use them - they came with my Brother machine - but I didn't know what they actually did until now!
Great info. I use the caps. However I didn't know what size to match with my spools.
