- Daniel Laidlaw is a Victoria Cross recipient for his bravery in the Battle of Loos in WW1. This short video aims to provide information about Laidlaw and detail his heroics which cemented his place as a Scottish war hero.
Proud to share some genetics with this man and too carry the Laidlaw name. From Hawick in Burbank Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, USA, thanks for the vid.
My great great Uncle, Alexander MacDonald was a piper in the Battle of Loos as well. They got the order to charge and his piper mate was killed. Alexander kept playing but was shot in the leg. He was evacuated back to Scotland where here died 3 weeks later from peritonitis. I have seen his war medal in the Black Watch war museum in Perth. Maurice Chisnall (NZ)
