YES. Lots of good stuff in other adaptations (Muppet Christmas Carol being strikingly accurate), but this is the king of them all. Especially the music. THE MUSIC.
@@Student____2025__1 I should look that one up myself. This is one of my favorite movie theme songs--Christmas or otherwise--so I'm sure the composer (Nick Bicat) has written other music that I would like. I need to look him up these days, because I am not really familiar with his music, outside of the soundtrack from this movie.
I'll always love the lyrics of this song. "The man to come we do not know, may he make peace on earth," and the words, "Rejoice for Mary's Son…"--they get me every time.
Masterpiece version of this Christmas classic from the brilliant soundtrack to the incredible cast. Viewing it right before Christmas has become tradition.
Ah! I love this movie so much! I grew up watching it as a kid every Christmas Eve and though a great deal of it was terrifying, it was so well done that it renewed my true Christmas vigor every year! With its fantastic cast, powerful message, and gorgeous songs it definitely is on the top of my Christmas movie list! Well done George C. Scott!
This 1984 film adaptation of Dicken's," Christmas Carol" is the best I have ever seen and I have seen all the versions which are highly touted, from the 1930's to the 1950's. Each year when I watch it, it does indeed bring a tear to the eye. George C. Scott is great, with a fine supporting cast. I have always wanted to buy a copy of the film version audio of "God Bless Us Everyone" but have not been able to find it.
There is no better version the Dickens classic although others such as Patrick Stewart's is excellent as is the Alister Sims classic, but George C.Scott got the character with his failings and strengths exactly. This version also has the best Marley for whom we fell both pity and horror. He's no joke. And finally all of this wrapped up with this excellent soundtrack. Why it was never released with all the other English carols featured in the film, I have never understood!
I must fully agree. The George C. Scott version is superior. Well cast...music is absolutely magnificent. the Bicat (?) brothers outdid themselves. And casting a wonderlul and (to me) underrated character actor - David Warner - who is almost always the "Heavy" - as Bob Cratchit was pure genius. His acting was spot on. And seeing the "bad guy" cast in such a sympathetic role simply added to the pathos / joy. It is our tradition that ... along with IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE ,,,this version is a yearly tradition. ......ummm...of course the MST3K "SANTA CLAUSE" and "SANTA CLAUSE CONQUERS THE MARTIANS" are as well.
One of the elements of Dickens' narrative this version got so correct is that Scrooge's evil does not spring from a "love of money" for its own sake but from his "fear of the world" because of what it had done to him as a child. Bell tells him: "You fear the world too much." Money is only a means to protect himself.
God Bless Us Everyone (Music by Nick Bicat, lyrics by Tony Bicat) The past of man is cold as ice: He would not mend his ways. He strove for silver in his heart And gold in all his days. His reason weak, his anger sharp, And sorrow all his pay, He went to church but once a year, And that was Christmas Day. So grant us all a change of heart, Rejoice for Mary’s son; Pray, Peace on earth to all mankind, God bless us everyone! The present man is full of flame: He rushes here and there. He turns away the orphan child, The widow in her chair. He eats for ten, he drinks for twelve, Forgets how brief his stay, And stands a-jingling of his change In church on Christmas Day. So grant us all a change of heart, Rejoice for Mary’s son; Pray, Peace on earth to all mankind, God bless us everyone! The man to come we do not know: May he make peace on earth, And live the glory of the Word, The message of the birth, And gather all the children in To banish their dismay, Lift up his heart among the bells In church on Christmas Day. So grant us all a change of heart, Rejoice for Mary’s son; Pray, Peace on earth to all mankind, God bless us everyone!
Thank you for printing the lyrics. Have always loved the tune, but actually seeing the wording helps make it better. As to the film adaptation itself, it is very difficult for me to judge, as all my "Top Four" (Sims, Scott, Stewart, and Finney) all are great adaptations, with great supporting cast, but none of them capture the dialogue of Dickins' story exactly (the opening conversation between Scrooge and Fred, for example... in the Dickins account, an essential element, is missing ... verbatim...from all four films). Would LOVE to see a film adaption which incorporates word-for-word, scene-for-scene of the original novel. Until then, I will continue to enjoy my book and the adaptions currently available. Happy Christ-day, all.
We watch the version every Christmas Eve. My favorite Christmas movie. And I listen to the song on a regular basis throughout. Thank you for uploading for us all to enjoy. God Bless Us. Everyone! 🎄❤🎄❤🎄
This is just great~~ thanks so much~ and I, too LOVE this Dickens classic...and the most~~ adorable--precious Tiny Tim and all the wonderful Cratchits~~ thanks and Merry Christmas to all~~~ :)
I always loved this song and especially from this film ^^ Although Christmas is already over, it made me so happy to hear it and let me feel again this Christmas spirit *o* So thanks a lot for uploading it!
What a beautiful message this amazing film tells, about redemption, humility, love and compassion.I tear up everytime i watch this masterpiece every Christmas^^ Thank you for uploading a truely great theme of the season, Merry Christmas everyone! :)

I am not sure if this was the reason that George C. Scott was chosen to play Scrooge in 1984, but if anyone else noticed this, the picture of Scrooge on the front of the Christmas Carol book looks like George C. Scott. I even looked it up and the book was printed before 1984, so I kind of find that a co-incidence, or a really good reason to watch this movie. You will note that the picture on the book resembles George's picture almost exactly on this video.
Gotta love A Christmas Carol; George C. Scott was always my favorite Ebenezer; However, he frightened me at some parts but he will always remain my favorite Ebenezer
I just checked out Meghan's arrangement and loved it! I have actually been thinking of doing the same thing because I have been wanting to use this gem in a family Christmas sing-along, but to the best of my knowledge, it hasn't been published as sheet music.

@AdamBombe Yeah - couldn't believe it! I got the CD now and only way I'll ever part with it again is if someone rips it from my dead, cold hands. *lol*

I like the way you've arranged this. Is it available for download? I've got the original soundtrack, but don't have the skills or software to edit the two songs into one like this.
This is by far my favorite version of "A Christmas Carol." I just watched the Patrick Stewart version and, honestly, I was disgusted. Horrible cast. Bob Cratchitt looks like a weird version of Dr. Who or something. And the ghost of Christmas Yet to Come has woman arms. XD. Anyway.... God bless us everyone!
Not an easy task for an American either. I tried Cockney once while auditioning for Mrs. Dilber in a church production of A Christmas Carol. I didn't get it along with The Ghost of Christmas Past or Mrs. Cratchit, but it was hard to do and I had to think to make my voice sound Cockney instead of a girl raised in Iowa and the northern side of Maryland.

Awesome! There is, by far, no greater version of The Christmas Carol than this version. My Christmas is never complete without it.
Same here. Was literally swept away by it in '84 and haven't passed a Christmas yet without it.
It's time to listen to this beautiful song again! Merry Christmas to all! "God bless us, everyone!"
I'll always love the lyrics of this song. "The man to come we do not know, may he make peace on earth," and the words, "Rejoice for Mary's Son…"--they get me every time.
This is the best Christmas Coral EVER. It always puts me in the right mood for Christmas!
A masterpiece movie, an unequaled performance by George C. Scott
I still remember this being filmed in Shrewsbury. Magical film. Wonderful book.
This is still my all time favorite version of the classic movie. I love this song.
Hi Karlis. I totally agree.
It is my families favorite as well. We have a big family get together and watch it every year. God bless us all. Everyone!

Awesome. Love hearing this song. Puts me in the Christmas mood-even in June-lol. I bought the soundtrack from the composer. Great songs!
By far the best rendition of a Christmas Carol! I love this version and such a great original song!

@johntellmewhy He did an amazing job with faking that British Accent. Considering he's American...
AndurilWielder
Better than the weak American accents we get from the British actors playing our Superheroes in film, which is our own Mythology.
He just barely changed his voice, hardly an English accent at all...which makes sense, as it was set circa 1840.
