He didn’t kill the bull. He just “lived there in the moment.” I feel that. I’ve lived that. Just hunted for the sake of being out there. Brilliantly written.
Yep, I passed on a few excellent opportunities on Whitetail Deer. Just to enjoy the moment!
I watched the best buck of my life feed along a hillside. I had him in my scope for 30 min straight, but I enjoyed the moment so much, I let him walk. I felt this one in my soul.
@@mccoma11 man that’s awesome. What a cool memory.
I lived a few missed shots that I can’t forget haha
yall must be rich, i shoot first legal bull or buck on sight
As a Montana boy, this song is the perfect gift in anticipation of the rut. I've been listening to the whole album on repeat for the last 3 1/2 hours, but this one especially hits home.
Same here, in NW Montana. This one really got me on the drive in to work this morning.
Oh it will be another 5 years until I get drawn for elk…AZ. I need to pay you boys a visit
Wyoming agrees too !
@@jkk4657nah we’re full. Go otc in Colorado
Wyoming, heading out for the rest of the month tomorrow to the rutting bulls! Good lawd the song hits
To one person, it's a hunting song. To another, it's about life changes.
To another, it's about all the changes and that comfortable place in the middle of all the turmoil.
This may be the greatest narrative he's written.
This is my favorite by far. The whole album is great but this one hits home.
I think I've changed my mind. Lucille just might be my favorite turnpike song ever. It's hard to say. Every song is like a "bonfire that burns in the back of my mind."

This song means the world to me. Different times, different places, different seasons, but all the same feelings
You guys can’t make bad music. This probably my favorite album yet. Brought Me and The Rut are my personal favorites.
A masterpiece. That chorus is everything. We’re all in the middle of different lives, different ruts, but we’ll ride it out. With a little elevation and an open-ended prayer. Thank you for sharing these gifts with us.
We all find these seasons or ruts in our lives. Keep grinding y’all, hunt, fish and find time alongside Mother Nature it’s what helps us battle some of these ruts. Much love and respect for any of y’all currently in a rut. Sunny days are ahead.
Just heard this and the interview on Electric Rodeo. This lyric, Oh friend, I'm gonna ride out of the rut I'm in, hit me hard as i was driving. 50 years old this year and a rut is what I've been stuck in for years. Hopefully coming out the other side soon.
Keep climbing brother.
To Evan and the guys, you guys are brilliant, you guys deserve more exposure. cheers from the Netherlands to Oklahoma!
Best song on the album for me.
I get so much out of ever one of their songs. I can relate in so many ways! Especially getting sober and straight! God Bless My Neighbors to the North!
@Jeremy Pittman, Thank you for sharing this song with me & thank God for giving us both “a little Elevation and an open-ended prayer” out on the Ridge where our journey’s intersected. You’re a lifelong friend & brother.
Man Evan can really paint a picture in my mind such a great song writer
Love this guys. Seriously! Seems like they wrote those songs about me, abrazilian boy a thousand miles away from Tusla. Thanks Felker. Don't even know you and I guess I never will but we certainly could be really good friends.
Thank you, Felker…. For coming back to the 🏔 mountains.
Great to hear a heartfelt hunting song from a legit outdoorsman. Hope someday to cross paths with you and Corb in the early Fall as the Aspens are turning.
Such a great tune. Pairs well the Birdhunters. Leaving to Wyoming in September for a archery elk hunt. Will be listening to this on the way
This song really hits hard. The ruts that I’ve been in I genuinely just had to ride out. There’s nothing you can do but ride it out. Even after all the turmoil and hardship you deal with you will come back to the mountains and they’re all still standing there. There are things in life that are never changing and steadfast. This song really conveys that and makes you feel the riding out of the rut you have to go through.
I'm very grateful for the new material. This one is my favorite so far.
TT music is timeless, and has refreshing honesty in every song. Love it fellas!!
2 bottles so the mules are balanced and getting that grouse really hits home.
Hope you Boys know the impact your stories have on some of us.
"just lived there in the moment" absolutely bars. I felt that. Any hunter can relate to just be there to be out there
Hey, Evan I don't know what it's worth to ya but I just wanted to thank you and your band mates for making your long awaited comeback to the stage that you guys belong on. Your music has lifted me in some seriously bleek times since I've come home from Afghanistan. So, thank you, TT.
Love and thanks from Northeast TX
Stop trying to get sympathy my guy it was a job
Thank you for your service.
@@johnathonmounce2265You’re a big man, I can tell from your degrading comment. Not one time did he ask for anything. Just simply stating how turnpike troubadour music resonates with him. Sorry you’re so dense you can’t read between the lines. Anyways, we all love this new album and I’m glad it touches each part of our hearts in different ways 🩷
@@johnathonmounce2265 if I wanted sympathy I'd called your mother for a handy.
Thank you for your service! I get it, they have lifted my spirits in dark times!
This is one of my favorites. Physically impossible for you guys to make a bad song. Everything is amazing
This is one of the best songs I've ever heard. Much love from MT.
Finally getting out of my rut and it’s a beautiful thing!!!
They sure know how to make you feel it in your Soul!
This song takes me to the woods in my mind and the melody soothes my soul guys. I am a song writer and fellow picker as well as a hunter. Weather the tree or the blind most my songs have been written there. When I'm holding my browning i need my Taylor. When I'm strumming my Taylor I want to hold my browning. I love your music.....Thank you from the 53 North band.
This group of men can take music to another level for this country boy
Absolutely awesome fellas. Love that Tele and sound. Oh ya, and the elk hunting!!!!! Finally a hunting song that encapsulated that feel.
Lots of meanings to this song! And the bridge..great tune
The only group that will write about quail hunting and elk hunting. Both are bad ass songs and twist it to relate to every day life.
Just took my 2 boys out last week.. killed 2 bulls .. this song hits home with that trip… !!! Thanku!!!
It’s insane because I have so many favorite turnpike songs…
But this might be my favorite
Living the steps of your old life with a new mind. Beautiful. Truly.
In the moment. All we can do. An open-ended prayer.
This may be the best hunting song ever written! They captured it.
And it is barely about hunting. It’s as much about experiencing the same things sober and seeing he can still do them and enjoy the world. About sometimes you just have to ride out the ruts until and know “tomorrow is full of promise, and just live in the moment”. It’s as much about hunting as ‘the bird hunters’ which is also barely about hunting. Which is the beauty of Evans writing
Great timing for the opening of archery season!
Awesome song
Killed my bull sept 8th and he was bugling his head off in the mountains. Smoked a cigar, sipped whiskey, and listened to this song around the wood stove in our wall tent. Thank you for writing one that feels like it’s written for me
Congrats on your bull
Gents, thank you for this soulful song.
❤ loving this one
Great to hear yall and the new album 🎉
Thank you guys for making music again!
that's so sweet.
My friend showed me this video and I’m back for the 3rd time! Hard times don’t last but new friends do! 💯
One of my favorite songs ever! Such a beautiful message played so beautifully. So relatable. It's been on repeat. Thank you.
Nothing like Turnpike Troubadours, a strong drink, a smoke & a toke, on a long hot summer day...👍
Never forget seeing ya at Red Ants pants and hearin long drive home for the first time the way that fiddle and lead guitar played against each other was outstanding so glad you’re back You guys love the new album. Thanks from Butte Montana.
Thanks for being awesome ❤
So excited for this new album!
mine is still in the mail!
Hot take. One of TT’s best songs.
Unless you have walked through aspens and smelled that fall smell and heard the bulls screaming you won’t get this song! Awesome some TT!
I’ve watched utube vids of elk hunting but never done when I heard this song I knew it was about elk hunting
man archery season just ended here in Colorado, and this song made me tear up reminiscing through the memories. thank you for this
Mountains still standing there, yes sir
If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
Mountains crumble to the sea
There will still be you and me
Love it. ❤
Love, love, love it!
God I missed y’all …. Thank you 🙏🏼
Love it! Rich, deep, yet simple, and relatable
Another great tune for everyone to drunkenly sing together
And thank you turnpike!
Particularly the part about not missing the taste of liqueur cause he's sober now lol
Banger
Can’t wait to play this at elk camp in a few weeks reminiscing on the days ups and downs
me and my family listen to it all day
Much love from Michigan Boys, nice work
Favorite song off the album
Just beautiful!
just brilliant
Being a Tahlequah boy becoming a man in this world, this song makes me really feel the lyrics
I’m from red oak and same!! They represent Oklahoma very well.
Best song on the album!
Love THIS!! TT keep it coming 😊😊
Favorite song 🫶🏽
Elk rut when they are trying to find a mate.
new elk camp theme song!!
Great tune
Yay!
Great song
Thank you :)
Good stuff 👍🏽
What's this song about? I love it. Coming from Montana.
For me the song is about this man's relationship with the wild wilderness and where it began. With dual meaning on all of it . The other side being his relationship with liquor coexisting with his hunting and all parts of his life. And the new beginning to return to the mountains that are still there yet changed as he has with the absence of liquor. Rising to hunt the rut and rising from the rut of something that has felt like a part of who u are, to have the strength and courage to lose that part of u and continue on without alcohol. Things feel and look different yet he stands to face both of the ruts ,takeing either for what they are worth to him . And that is big ,making that man a giant to me and he deserves a mountain of respect !
Top 3 on album
damn
Looking forward to your DC show 9/23
phenomenal. more pure gold from these guys. nobody captures imagery like evan.
Everytime I go look for elk I listen to this song
Just wondering what he was hunting with... if he let the Elk pass and just lived there in the moment and then hunted back towards camp n got enough grouse to make a meal.. elk usually you have a high powered rifle, grouse usually a shotgun...or maybe they were bow hunting...
This song sounds so familiar. Does anyone know what song it sounds like? I can’t figure it out
This song sounds exactly like another song that came out the past year or two. Someone please help it’s driving me crazy, I was thinking it was Tyler Childers but I can’t seem to find it.
Biggest turnpike fan in the world, but mannn this song sounds just like Blacksheep by Cody Jinks
Ummm….nah
Can’t wait for Buckeye 2024!
