I used to live in Palm Springs. I did the tram once in the 2000s. For those of you who are thinking of taking the tram, there is a nice visitor center at the top with a couple of restaurants and a bar. A nice place to go and enjoy the views of the valley below.

Brilliant video, as always. I've only done the Palm Springs one about ten years ago on a road trip but the thing that excited me most was seeing chipmonks for the first time at the top. I'm British and a wildlife nut so the Americans couldn't understand why I was so overjoyed at seeing their cute pest. I'll never forget.

@@boston_octopus they're also kinda dumb. They'll run out in front of a car, with a minimal amount of time to even recognize them. I've ended a few chipmunks that way. 🙁
There's a tram in Estes Park, CO, which also features chipmunks at the upper station. The gift shop sells peanuts to feed them.
Love this video - I was in the original TWA building in 1974
and it was beautiful then as it is 😮 a hotel today. Brought back a lot of memories to see it as I was with my 3 small children flying to Tunisia to see my husband after being separated for one year as he was on a 1 year unassigned military assignment.
I would love to stay there! I'm a weirdo who is terrified of flying and yet I do love airports. This would be perfect for me, LOL!
My mom and grandpa used to hike from the bottom of the Sandia tram to the second tower. They would go almost every day before his health started to go downhill. I live close to the tram and it's fun to watch it go up and down. Also, one of the buildings at the top you could have gotten some food from which is really cool.

How did I not know there was a tram in NYC??? Legit had no clue that even existed. Excited to see the next episode. I saw some modular thing with WV on the side and as WV native, its going to be cool to see you there. Also saw something going up the side of a mountain that looked suspiciously familiar, maybe from my days in Pittsburgh in the 90s?

Then i take it you never went to Universal Orlando in the 1990s and rode "Kongfrontation", as the first generation of the tram was the attraction's ride vehicle.

I didn’t know that there was a state park at the top of the Palm Springs Tram. I just cared about the temperature difference. It was 120 degrees F in Palm Springs at the time and (I think) less than 70F at the top. Possible to breath without scorching your lungs.
It is beautiful up there we were up there before Covid. Worth the trip
When I was there it was 60 degrees at the bottom, then 30 degrees with 18 inches of snow at the top

Loved seeing 5he Roosevelt Island tram. Never Never rode it, but saw it from the 59th street bridge when we were in New York for our 2nd anniversary.

In the summer you should go to the Cannon mountain tramway in New Hampshire. It's the 1st in the Us, built in 1938. Plus you can see Canada and if you visit the ski museum nextdoor you can stand in an original tramcar. We've had a fantastic time enjoying your channel and sharing it with our kids.

I was visiting Albuquerque for the first time in late 2021, and while driving around I saw a billboard for the Sandia Tramway and decided to stop by. Spectacular ride and the views were stunning, but you need to stay hydrated if you aren't used to the elevation (like me) or you can get a headache almost immediately once you reach the summit. There was even one brave soul who had brought his parachute to the top then proceeded to float down (base jumping). Pretty cool to see.
I used to ride the Roosevelt tram when I lived in NY. I did not realize its history. Thank you Mike - this is one of reasons I watch your videos. Love from Israel.

Arial trams are such a unique experience - the funnest way to scale mountains and hills. I never knew about these arial trams until just now! Putting these on my travel list. I've always dreamed of having breakfast on one of those hot air balloons. Thanks Mike!

I've been in the trams at Jackson Hole in Wyoming (the original and the new one) and Snowbird in Utah, both during ski season. Of course they were crammed with skiers at the time, so if one was not lucky enough to be by the windows the views were just of what kinds of skis and jackets other people had.
I've been on the Palm Springs one since I live only about 90 minutes away. What I didn't realize, as a recent survivor of a pulmonary embolism, the height up there is not conducive to even walking casually. But, it was super awesome! I'm not afraid of heights, so this was a whole bunch of fun....until I couldn't breathe. LOL The turning floor will take you by surprise. I have always wanted to take the hot air balloon ride experience. Maybe someday! New Mexico is beyond description, loved it!
That landing after the hot air balloon and when that guy fell down at the airport made me laugh 😂

I only rode the Roosevelt Island Tramway once, and it happened to be on the day of the NYC Marathon. We could see the runners on the adjacent Queensboro Bridge. The views are certainly better than in the subway, but you still have to transfer to a subway or bus to go anyplace beyond E. 59 St. That balloon ride was scary, out in the open air with just a waist-high railing to keep you in the basket. Great scenery throughout your travels - thanks.
Ahh! I just rode the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway in February! We did it at night and goodness WHAT an experience. The overview effect is real looking down at the Coachella Valley.

This was so much fun, and the views were spectacular! I thought the NYC tram just went from one side of the river to the other. I didn't realize you go flying through NYC among the buildings!
I flew into Kennedy Airport in 1967. Although I never saw the TWA terminal, I remember the space-age design and shine of the airport in general.
I was in Palm Springs in December of 2016 and we thought about doing the tram but, it was pretty cold so we opted not to. Never even thought about the Roosevelt Island tram before but, next visit to NYC it's on my list! Thanks for that!
In the 1960’s my dad worked for TIA, Trans International Airlines in Oakland. TWA, aka Tinny Weenie Airlines was next door. My dad had many friends who worked at TWA. He was impressed with the TWA Hotel you shared. Thanks!

Hello! Up north in Rochester, we were expecting a lot of snow, only to get a minimum amount. Boulder got something of snow. They have a reason to prepare, buuuut, it rarely happens the way humans expected it to. I'm glad you made your trip in the 48 hours though!

So glad you went to the TWA Hotel! I spent a lot of time there in the 60s and 70 when it was an active terminal and I was a little kid. I remember literally running (as little kids are prone to do) through those arched tunnel concourse connectors having the time of my life knowing I was going someplace awesome. My dad flew for TWA back in the day when family members could fly for free, and we departed that terminal many times for some epic trips! Thanks for the memories Mike!
Consider Eureka, CA and Northern coastal California. Redwoods Skywalk. Madaket harbor cruise. Kayak in Trinidad, CA, and the SkyTrail at Trees of Mystery.
And don't forget Skunk Train/bikes or Avenue of the Giants.
I rode the NYC tram a couple of years ago. We rode it over during the day, then came back at night. Amazing views! I can't lie though, that moment when you look down and realize you are above the bridge, it can be a little scary. Still, a great experience that I would do again if I am ever in NYC. Thanks for the video.

The TWA Hotel is fab. In the 80s I did many shows for I❤NY tourism and TWA was the partner airline. We "sold" NY travel to foreign travel agents. I flew many times from this terminal. Thanks, Mike for this and everything you do.

Thanks for giving me ideas. I will do the NYC tram end of June and then the Mt Washington Cogway a couple of days later.
The Roosevelt Island Tram used to be like the one in New Mexico, when one left 2nd Avenue, the other left the island… until a bunch of faults and malfunctions left BOTH stranded over the river, which was a nightmare for the fire department’s rescue teams. Now they run independently with massive electric motors running the cables on the island side. The tram is good if something goes wrong on the subway, because there is a station on the island (which is technically car free, aside from maintenance and emergency vehicles, oh and the bus that goes around. There is a bridge into Queens that goes into a parking structure on the island, in case do you own a car and live there.

The last time I rode the tram in Palm Springs, it was the old cars, back in the mid 1990's. What a difference now. By the way, you can take a great balloon ride in Palm Springs too. When I did it, we soared over "date palm" orchards just a few feet above the trees. It was a Champagne breakfast flight...epic! Nice job as usual Michael. Thanks for taking us along.

I did not know that New York had a Tram. This has been fascinating! I rode a Tram out at South Park, at the Alleghany Fairgrounds. That was 52 years ago. It was known as a Skybus/People Mover. It was neat. Looking forward to next week.I hope you have a good week!

Wow! Lot's of variety here! I had no idea that Palm Springs California had an aerial tram to a mountain park, nor was I aware of one in Albuquerque. I was aware of the Roosevelt Island one but never got to ride it when I was there in 1995. And the TWA Hotel at JFK - Wow! My airport visit was at Newark, NJ, so I missed out there. You certainly know how to entertain us from week to week.
Oh, and I noticed during your Surfshark promotion that you can access information about my hometown Melbourne. And I see you could be in Seattle for next weeks video - Could be a sneak preview of Melbourne's historic tram as they operate along the waterfront adjacent to the BNSF rail corridor (Yes, I do have a photo amongst my collection of a Melbourne tram beside Amtrak's Empire Builder taken back in 1989).

The hundred times I have been to NYC, I have never even seen the aerial tram!! What a great way to reduce traffic in big cities.
I live very close to Sandia Peak. That tram has been there forever! Moved to NM at the age of 2 in 2012 (11 years ago) and my first ride was almost a year later. The ski resort lost their scenic chairlift (Chair 1) in 2017 after problems like maintenance and part unavailability and stuff like that including the summit restaurant seen in many sections. The restaurant is in a new location from the old one. In the way of Chair 1's top terminal. The old one was out of the way of the top.. Chair 3 has the most lift towers in the world having 41. Not the most chairs (although it has 240). The ski area hasn't opened for 2 seasons straight now!
Hard to believe that you had never been to New Mexico. You must go back and ride the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad in Chama. It is truly a step back in time. Late September is the best time of year to go for crisp fall weather and beautiful colors in the trees. The docents are a treasure trove of wonderful information about the history of everything around you. Be sure to engage them.

Well, that certainly was something different!! Being an Australian our highest mountain come no where near the height you climbed. I don't know that I would like to travel on one of those now that I am in my 70s as I seem to have become a little less adventurous than I was in my youth. Height was never an issue back then but just climbing onto the bottom step of a ladder makes me feel dizzy these days. So enjoy it while you are still young & agile. I had never heard that New York had an aerial tram but it would be popular when trying to move around a very busy city. We used to have a monorail in Sydney but they pulled it down & now we just have the light rail. (Modern trams) & as I am a lover of train travel especially the old steam train travel, then I enjoyed the light rail when I used to go into the city. Looking forward to your next adventures which I enjoy watching on Sunday afternoons.
I've ridden the other commuter aerial tramway you referred to, the tram in Portland, Oregon up to the Oregon Health and Science University. I rode it as a tourist for the views but since the lower station is right next to a light rail station and the lower campus of OHSU, it's a great way for patients, visitors, staff, and students to get up the hill.
We rode the Portland tram as tourists, too - was hoping it might be in this video! The public transit in Portland was great and the tram was a fun ride, but it was so cool that some people were actually taking it to work!
Yet another fun trip! I didn't get to ride any of these in my travels, but it's a joy to see what you've done!
