    Thanks for these videos. Regarding notes that are different "ascending" and "descending". Of course, one isn't necessarily going to play a full sequence of notes in a phrase. If it's just the variable note and, say, one other, do we count "ascending/descending" as ascending/descending FROM the variable note or ascending/descending TO it?

      It’s really about the overall flow of the melody. The sharper version pushes the melody up towards the octave and the flat version pushes it down towards the fifth. The sixth itself isn’t really a resting note so it wouldn’t be up or down to it. You also never have the two different versions of the sixth right next to each other.
