Ive been messing around with my Oud for a year but never gotten so far to the serious stuff since I have been stuck with thinking in only basic Hijaz and Nahawand and never got further since id end up at a point where i cant create anything good and i end up giving up on trying to play anything since i dont really know what im doing, but now im deciding to learn Maqams seriously and learn the the dongs required to really learn each maqam and i want to learn even more now

You make it look so easy but This was very challenging for me 😅 had to slow the video 1/4 and still had issues following the fingers used and the strings played. Maybe mentioning the fingers numbers and strings would’ve made it easy for me 😅 (coming from guitar background). Great videos and great playing keep them coming. Looking forward to learn more from you. ❤️❤️❤️🫶

It's not just the microtones, the "sayr" or melodic progression is markedly different between the three. Abu Ata is not the equivalent to Bayati/Ushaq. Shur is.

Do you have any further tips to keep practicing? I learned guitar about 10 years ago so while this is different and takes practice it also didn't take me very long to learn. But I feel pretty much lost on how maqam and the middle eastern music works. I found some maqam lessons but they focus on ear training too much (which is something I'm also familiar with) and not in the modes and how they interconnect with others. I've been practicing this lesson along with the second one but would like to move forward. Thank you for your short lessons though, they really helped me get started.

My problem so far is to buy an oud from a trustful store and with a reasonable price. It would be very helpful if you make a video about the types of ouds you have with the details about the oud maker and websites of the stores.

its very close to open C tuning on western guitar. The only difference being the relationship of the 4th and 5th string on western guitars is now shared instead between the second and thirds string. Almost like someone took a western guitar or lute and flipped it around or vice versa (as if to play opposite handed)
Just 1 of the many things i found really interesting about the Oud
